Oh yes, from this picture it is much clearer. This is a beautiful Breitling - one which I would even consider getting as a gen.

I think some of this might also be a little bit on the extreme exaggerated side; remember, the media doesn't really have a history of "toning things down" or "representing footage impartially"... ...except FOX News - my favorite of all news programs.

It's not illegal in North America to "repair counterfeit watches" (only to sell them) but, if you owned a repair shop, would you want it to be filled with counterfeits? Does anybody know a rep-friendly watchsmith in Ottawa? I have been almost everywhere... and every single one of them got upset and either lectured me about horology or just told me to get the hell out of their establishment.

I doubt this will be available on torrents... can anyone record and then megaupload and rapidshare it for the community?

Amazing! What an intricate masterpiece... but I think the JLC Gyro Tourbillon is still an overall nicer "mega tourbillon".

What prevents counterfeiters from replicating this packaging to be used in scams (ie: selling pre-owned, dubious quality movement as new)? I think a trustworthy supplier (alongside correct packaging) is an important piece of the puzzle too.

No dealers carry it. Your only hope is to ask Narikaa and maybe he can source one for you.

When I first got into reps I had the same problem. My decision was to take my dad around town and visit all of the local boutiques, trying on different watches, and deciding on one he really liked. Watches are a very personal item - and you should give him the chance to choose the model he prefers. It will also give you quality time together, and introduce him to a fun hobby in a casual and fun way. I know we really bonded during our experience; finally he decided on a Yacht-Master which was shocking to me since I always thought he liked "Longines" (I was ready to get him a rep Longine - Josh had a nice one back then). Even if he doesn't verbalize which one he likes, you should be able to decipher the moment when the "right one" comes along... anyway I wish you both the best of luck and happy hunting!

It's hollowed-out midlinks? The original is completely 100% solid I believe... meaning the weight will still be off. Also, the price does seem "too good to be true". I have a suspicion these might be the classic Chinese 10k solid gold with plated 14k... otherwise the price is a steal and you should just buy as many as you can and melt them down and sell them for profit to a local gold purchasing agency..

Maybe I'm just paranoid but I think it's safe to assume all of these shenanigans were planned from the very beginning - get you excited about watch, establish communication, whoops! request more money (with help of bogus telephone story); and since you're already interested and invested in the deal, you should go for it. Don't give him the pleasure. Go up to him, face to face, "mano a mano", and give him a choice: original deal, or no deal. As soon as he refuses, walk away nice and slowly... he might just change his mind. If not, leave knowing you did not succumb to his trickery. Protip: meet at a public place.

The genuine is so sporty and beautiful... but the rep just gets owned by the hilariously off subdial spacing - it looks so stupid!!

Why don't you institute a down payment policy? Placing an order costs an non-refundable XX $ which, if the buyer decides to cancel, stays with you.. otherwise it is factored into the cost of whatever piece you're buying.

It is a marvel of ingenuity and design - probably something for the horological history books. But in all honesty, who would spend $200,000 for something that looks like a Casio from the 1980s?

If you want a minute repeater watch the only thing in a reasonable price range right now is from Citizen...

"Super reps" are $300-$1200... modded Rolex watches can go up to $5000 with solid gold additions and genuine parts. But you can get a decent datejust for $250 these days... I've seen a very very accurate franken sub for sale for $600 in the member trade section once. Of course, some people spend thousands modding with gen movements and other gen parts.. but then the line between real and rep gets stretched really thin. Genuine Rolex starts at $3000 and goes up to $275 000 So I still think the reps, even the good ones, are a little cheaper... if that's what you're asking. But it's hard to really pinpoint their value.

What a fun idea... here's my story: The first rep I ever purchased was from Joshua. It was the ultra noob super tacky Rolex Full-Gold Day-Date. The watch arrived after about a week and a half wait. I was surprised to find he shipped it with a courier, FedEx, since most of the forums pressed against doing this. I had to go to the post office to get the envelope since I wasn't at home during delivery. When I finally arrived I carefully unwrapped the packaging, which was really great as I recall. The watch took my breath away - no other replica has done that since, none... I had tried the genuine on at a local AD a few days prior and never believed I could ever own a timepiece of such magnitude. I couldn't stop looking at it. Remembering the instructions I had read on the forum, I gave it a few shakes and it sprang to life! It was my first non-quartz watch... I was very impressed. I wore the thing absolutely everywhere - and it looked good on me too. It had inaccuracies and some speckles of dirt on the hour markers... but I didn't even notice until I became more deeply involved with the hobby (imagine). It was delivered September 17, 2006. In December of this year the watch malfunctioned and the hands slipped. I didn't wear her much regardless, but it really was depressing when she died... that watch made me so happy... we were best friends you know.
