  1. It may be good news for the forum, but not really for our hobby.... at least my interpretation of it.

The last thing I want to do is go on yet another disgruntled rant regarding this issue... but I cannot say this enough: the reason I buy reps is to have the exclusivity and respect of wearing a luxury brand name timepiece. If everyone figures out the ease of which this is possible, then my entire reason for purchasing these watches gets flushed down the toilets. Of course, I love watches in and of themselves... I think they are swell indeed, but there is a reason I have a "Rolex" on my wrist instead of an "Invicta" of the same design - if you haven't guessed what that reason is by now, then you will never comprehend why I hate it when more people join this forum. I hate it. It just burns my biscuits to know that somewhere, some person is figuring out all of the dealers and buying himself, or herself, a beautiful watch just like mine.

... although I don't think anyone really believes my Sky-Moon is real anyhow.

  2. The two-tone Breitling Chronomat Evolution is dreamy!

Is the Pam Daylight Chronograph swiss made or asian? It's a really expensive watch either way... definitely something to be proud of!

The SMP Chrono is a beauty isn't she? I have the same one...

Great collection - thumbs "UP" !

  3. Heavens no... for the price of all of my reps I could have one entry-level luxury swiss gen. Then I would wear it for a few months, and be bored with it...

The whole reason I collect reps it for the diversity and fun of having something new and exciting every little while without breaking the bank.

Maybe one day I will win the lottery, and then collect gens.. but I would still probably stay on this forum... just because the gen forums are usually filled with old farts who have no idea how to use a computer and you get thousands of posts like "I just bought a Breguet and tried to post pictures by stuffing them inside the little cup holder coming out of my computer but they didn't show up what do I do now...?!?!"

Disclaimer: not all senior citizens are senile.

  4. The "diver's extension" on my two-tone Rolex submariner is extremely difficult to open. Once I was trying to pull it out and the little metal plate forced itself under the part of my thumb where the top (not the tip) of the fingernail meets the skin. Because it is quite thin, it sliced itself inside quite nicely like a little knife and caused some pretty surprising bleeding as a result. Of course, it was not big deal, but if I ever want to dive with my watch, I may attract the attention of some sharks. :(

Another time I was trying to adjust the time on my Full Gold Rolex President Day - Date when the hands misaligned and the watch essentially broke. I was so furious that I started screaming profane vernacular at extremely high volume. My throat was sore for several days after the incident.

  5. I have Joshua's ETA 16613 BL. Pretty much the same watch as that. I wear it very frequently and I simply do not care what onlookers think. Here is why:

1/1000 people will know it is a fake for a good reason, ie the specific inaccuracies of the watch.

1/10 people will assume it is a fake just because they have such low self-esteem they have to accuse others of the same inferiority complex to sleep at night. These are the same group that will think it is a fake when it is actually a gen.

    The rest will either;

    - Not care what kind of watch you are wearing.

    - Notice it is a Rolex without giving it a second thought.

    - Complement you on your lovely expensive watch.

    Good luck.

  6. Patek Philippe: Pah-tek Fee-LEAP

I beg to differ. There was an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" a few years ago where she was looking through expensive items celebrities enjoy purchasing. Anyway, some representative from PP came down and showed her a few watches.

Oprah remarked that she alwasy pronounced it "Paah-tek PHILLIP"

The man replied that it was "Pah-Tek Feel - ee - pay"

To this day I will not forget that episode and I wish I had taped it because I think she actually dropped the watch at one point. But back then for me all watches were the same!!

"I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS "PA-TEK-PHIL-LIP"

    "No. It's not."

  7. I have a full-gold day-date. Yes, it peels BUT it will peel on the "inside" and will be unnoticeable during normal wear. And by peel here I do not mean that it literally comes off in giant shards but rather little dark grey patches start to appear... almost looks like dust.

The 15mil 14K gold is heaps tougher than the 5mil 18K the mega-dealers sell... I believe that it is a safe investment in the long run so long as you get it on a leather strap. The bracelet ones are a little bit more annoying, as it will peel, and it will disappoint.

I say that if you like this watch you should definitely get it because in my experience the movement will die before you even notice gold coming off... just like what happened with my poor day-date...

  8. I am thinking of getting a vintage Daytona... these old Rolexes have a certain appeal - even though they are stainless steel and have a very economic, simple design, their value is astounding - in good condition they fetch over $50,000 , rare color combinations in great condition over $80,000.... definitely gives the modern Daytona crowd a run for their money.

The only down side to the old Daytonas is that untrained, unknowledgeable folk may easily mistake them as fake for the wrong reasons. Yes, they are fake, of course, but not because they don't look like modern cosmographs !
