  1. Polish website called Fotosik has virtually no limits and restrictions. Though it's kind of like visiting a shady neighborhood due to all of the inappropriate postings, but if you just manage your own private collection of photos it is good to upload and share with a community. It's in Polish, but intuitive enough...

  2. Canada customs once opened one of my packages only to discover a Vacheron Constantin Retrogating Tourbillon. They had the nerve to charge me $74.86 in customs tax and it arrived as normal. Of course, I screamed my head off at the UPS man who could not even explain how they reached that amount or what it was for - but I still had to pay and now when he drives down the street he looks at the opposite direction of myself.

Anyhow, check your local laws and regulations, because in many countries there are no laws against purchasing reps but rather against selling them - so you're in the clear. The worst that can happen to you in this case if they open the package, is that they will charge you a proposterous customs fee like they did to me because its a fancy pancy watch....

The worst stories I've heard come from Germany. Apparently they have some kind of counterfeit paranoia and are often quite successful in confiscating people's reps, especially if they come from China, and then blacklisting your address so every package you get sent requires customs examination.

Like I said... it depends where you live. America and Canada are safe. One has the much bigger international issue of terrorism to deal with, and the other one has a populace that barely knows how to tell time let alone enforce complicated laws.

  3. Whenever somebody asks me what is the best gen brand, I think to myself "Blancpain, obviously". Why? The simple truth is that no Blancpain reps exist - go and check our dealer's sites, find any...? Didn't think so!

If you want a watch with pedigree, class, and of course the coveted title of the only manufacturer never to succumb to quartz, I would definitely look into it. Granted, the cost of entry is quite steep - but look at it as an investment opportunity rather than a simple purchase. The heritage and rarity of these exquisite pieces make them the perfect objects to use as family heirlooms. I could go on and on about how much I love this brand and how it has been spared by rep manufacturers and how it takes a true connoisseur to consider it but you should figure that on your own!

    Good luck and have fun!

  4. These sell at my local flea market for around $600 to $800 if fully functioning and in fair condition. Crisp, clean, lubed, overhauled models go into the low $1000s. If you have the original strap and papers, you would be able to pull off perhaps even more... but may I suggest getting it serviced by an authorized Omega specialist?

Another thing I would consider is registering yourself as the watch's official owner (remove caseback and get the serial number then bring it to an AD who will do the rest of the work...)

I know something about fighting to unravel the mystery behind old, rare watches but as long as you have those serials then you are in good shape. Without the serials however, you have a long and painful road ahead of you.

It is definitely a beautiful wristwatch and I am sure it will be a head-turner once on your wrist! Congratulations!

  5. if somebody wants to be furious with me...I don't have a problem at all...I didn't do anything bad...just to all the fellow members gave an opportunity to bid on this one...in the end who has more $$$ will win...that's life...

We really don't need any more people here adopting TTK's trademark eloquent writing style... ;)

  6. Joshua usually ships to me with EMS even when shipping is free. Kenberg, a local collector here, shipped my beautiful Armani suit with EMS as well despite shipping being free (his is always free) - it is a very popular courier.

I only had one other courier ever dispatched, and it was on my very first rep about this time last year. HMS Courier - and it arrived through FedEx of all things...

    Happy buying!!

  7. Kenberg,

I truly believe the most precious moments in life are the ordinary times we spend with our family and friends. From sitting together on the front porch on a sunny day to eating together, it is these things which I remember and treasure most. You are very lucky to have been blessed with a family that must love you very much indeed, and it is I'm sure the greatest miracle for them to have you back in their presence. I know that we, here, at the forums, felt a concern for your health but it is not us you should be worried about - it is of course, them.

Having said that, I know you may be facing a long road to recovery, and I hope you take your time with it and use your energy to get better. I'm sure nobody will mind if you postpone the re-opening of your business for the next little while only until you feel ready.

Life is a journey spent with others that occurs but once in the history of time. Get well soon, and continue to enjoy every fleeting moment before it disappears forever.

    God bless,

    Corgi

  8. Well, I think its a really fun idea, but like you say this forum is a melting pot of people from different cultures. The "talk show" section I assume would be primarily aimed towards the English speaking group who represent the overwhelming majority. When you first started the radio there were 26 people listening when I logged on. These days, it's in the low single digits. I think its good to try and spruce it up into something more interactive and amusing.

  9. Step 1: Download the latest version of "Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser" which is always free.

Step 2: Download "Adblock", a free and ridiculously easy self-installing upgrade for Mozilla Firefox.

Step 3: Download "Filterset.G," a frequently updated database of advertisements fed into program #2 which program #2 blocks from displaying on websites. Again, it is free and installs itself through Firefox.

-Most English websites will lose all ads, be they flash-animation or standard .gif or .jpeg banners.

I only figured this out recently, but I swear to you it makes my internet experience so much more enjoyable. If you just google all of those things, you'll get it done in no time.

  10. Mazal Tov on your wedding sir! I recently purchased Joshua's Swiss ETA Franck Muller Ladies' Curvex Conquistador. Can I tell you a secret? It's a hell of a watch. Underappreciated and subtle, the relatively inexpensive rep can easily run with the "super rep" crowd. Even the best Rolexes can be intensely scrutinized and discovered as fakes with flaws that may not be obvious at first glance, but hide at close distance. This Muller has an intricately designed bracelet finished with highly polished stainless steel, giving it a pronounced and eye-catching look without the need for cheap imitation diamonds or tissue paper gold plate. A connoisseur's brand, the distinguished Franck Muller name is reveered and respected among watch collectors "in the know" and its timeless, funky bending numbers represent the brand's famous trademark style. The prestigious watch is solidly constructed and has a heavy feel, further adding to its value for money and overall high quality fit and finish. Depending on your lady-to-be's personal choice, it comes in either white or black face - though as her future husband you surely know which model she'll prefer. I highly recommend this watch as it dares to be original, looks good in regular lighting and absolutely stunning in strong light, and finally is reliable and will provide years of service without worrying if the pearl will fall out, bezel ring will become unglued, gold will fade away, or chinese movement will stop.

Does your lady deserve the best? If she were my wife, I would definitely consider this piece. The company may only have a few decades of history under its belt, but celebrities and international icons often agree on its prestige and balanced design. The retail price is about $5,000, and the watch is, as far as I know, out of production and exists in fairly limited circulation, so the chances of getting called out are about six billon to one - the one being Mr. Muller himself!

  11. Oh gosh... I still remember mine...

"Can I trust this site offering Grade A+ Swiss Manufactured Rolex Datejust with 30mil solid gold wrap for just $800 (a great deal as it retails for $1499.99" or something along those lines...

I was such a noob. My first watch - duh - FG Prez. Now I own a PAM, therefore making me a knowledgeable collector.

  12. Well, considering it is my only gen of value, it is indeed my vintage "mystery" patek whose reference number is unknown and serial identification is long forgotten...

Your memory is indeed something out of this world Pug, everyone - even myself - has long forgotten about my initial question regarding the watch. (Note: the issue is still unresolved, and the watch's history remains unknown. A Patek Philippe, however, it is.

    Good job!
