  1. Use a gen insert if you go with a Pepsi. Service inserts are about $150... If you want a blueberry, I believe Michael Young at CWP still carries very nice all blue inserts.

    Good luck with the build!

I've ordered the base watch this afternoon. Where would you suggest for finding a service dial for that price?

    Thanks

  2. Hi All,

I have been tossing up between building a 1680 or a 1675 for my second rolex as I need a watch with a date and I think I've settled on the 1675. I have read around the forums trying to find a cheap build.

At the moment I'm thinking of starting with:

    • Cartel 1675 as a base
    • Yuki Dial / hands set

For the insert I will either go with pepsi or blueberry but I am seeking advice on which inserts are good and the best place to source them.

Overall I'm just seeing if anybody has advice for an inexpensive 1675 build.

    Thanks in advance,

    HaydenM

  3. No rep dealer will guarantee water resistance because the QC on these watches as they come out of the factories is nothing like that of even seiko. I have worn the 1016 that I built in the water quite a few times without any problem, but it is definitely a risk to take in the rep world.

  4. Mymannmatt won't sell to me because I'm a new member , is there anyway I can deal with him ? Looking to buy a DD

All I can say is hang around, keep posting, contribute to the conversations, you won't be new forever!

Not to put words in Panerai's mouth but probably also better that not every single post you have is about the same DD you're looking for.

  5. Personally diamonds on a man's watch (with the possible exclusion of indices on the dial) just scream "look at me" and when worn with a fake scream poser. This bezel also completely changes the look of a relatively classically designed watch which doesn't sit right with me.

  6. what do you mean by backdoor gen

    sent from BOOOOOOOOOM

I'm guessing that by backdoor gen he means that it's the same movement / same parts / same factory etc but that it's not recognised by tissot as a tissot. A "night run" of sorts. But then again I could be entirely wrong.

    As for today I wore:

  7. Hey, I didn't buy it off a website. I have a local contact who sourced this for me, I trusted it more.

Make your way around forums, you'll find plenty of good dealers who have a good watch.

    For example: http://pure-time.com/product/submariner-116610-ln-black-ceramic-v5-11-noob-best-edition-a3135/

Honestly I don't see the appeal to the a3135. If somebody is taking the caseback off of the watch the illusion is already far from gone and it seems to just be another thing that can fail. My 1016 build has a bulova 2824-2 in it, it looks nothing like the rolex movement but is incredibly reliable. Of course this comes down to there being different things for different people, but I find the modified movements a bit far.

  8. There's only ONE reason prices have gone up.   Because we keep buying!

There's only ONE way to reverse the trend.    Keep your money in your wallet.

    :bangin:

I can agree with this. I would much prefer to build a watch now than buy one. It's much better value for money, will actually contain a swiss movement and the price can be spread out and in the end you have a much more accurate rep that will probably hold its value better in this community as it is a unique piece and one cannot just go out and buy a new one from a TD.

  9. I'm sure the operator and the subject material also contribute to these great pics.   :)  The digital sensor is really similar to the format size of print film.  Those large format cameras, such as Hasselblad, took unfreaking believable pics because the film was so big. If it wasn't so inconvenient to use my DSLR I'd use that more, but the phone camera is right there, the pics are decent enough, and since the phone is connected to the ether at all times it is easy to just upload through Tapatalk or Photobucket.

I use my dslr for most of my watch photos as I'm using an older iphone and the image quality doesn't hold up. I just find it difficult to hold up a quite bulky full frame DSLR to take a wrist shot in focus.

  10. That tool required looks similar to a 15 edge breitling tool. Size varies from corner to flat and these can be bought inexpensively from eBay. The oem casebacks are usually very tight.

Alternatively a GOOD quality Jaxa style tool will open as long as the watch head is well secured. A decent watch smith will be able to loosen it off if all else fails.

The problem I have had with the current caseback remover that I have is that the tool that could grip to the sides of the dodecagon do not fit into the groove. It is certainly very tight and through a few means has not moved at all. Will give it a try when the ball arrives.
