Correct, but how much would it cost once you replace the insert with a gen one so the pearl doesn't scream fake from a mile away, get a gen strap that doesn't feel like a piece of plastic (or a gen bracelet that doesn't lose its "balls",) service the movement, and waterproof it properly so it doesn't leak like a sieve?
Not sure of the insert cost. I had no problem with my bracelet except it not having enough micro adjustment points (a problem shared by the gen) a movement could be serviced or a donor watch with an ETA 2824-2 sourced for relatively little and waterproofing can be done with relatively little experience.
I have a dead BB sitting in a draw which was originally a movement problem followed by me pulling it apart and breaking it beyond reasonable repair.

Agreed! Heat wave forecast for today in South Africa.
I'm in Australia and it's been a pretty nice summer (not too hot) until the last couple of days when it suddenly shot up.

I think there is going to be an influx of the old 1016 cases on the sales forum soon. I'm tempted to redo my 1016 now.
-
They forgot to put the rep third in the comparison
Less than half the price of the CW with a 2824 (which could be replaced with the swiss and still be far under the price).

Once you go for sapphire, you have given up on life

Hi everybody
I have my 1016 built and have been wearing it every day but recently got a little bored of the bracelet and being summer here was thinking of replacing it another type of strap and as there are a lot of 1016s that have been built in the community I was wondering what people have put their 1016s on besides the bracelet.
Currently I have it on this:
(note that it's an older build of my 1016 in these images as I haven't gotten the camera out since I took it off the bracelet, the dial and hands are different currently)

Fantastic, can't wait to see the next set of everybody's 1016 builds.

I'd go american for a first pocket watch, great quality and almost unkillable.

I've an old gen waltham, over 100 years old (just looked it up and it's from 1899 so 116 years old). They're pretty simple watches and I often use it for black tie when I don't want to use a wrist watch.
-
That's amazing, I really envy the americans on the boards here as from what you hear there are a lot more nice old watches floating around.

For the PO, is he referring to the newer Miyota based coaxials?
He refers to the POs with the 2824/36 movements

Definitely would love to see a review of this watch with actual pictures of it. It looks like a great rep

saw a couple. But only online and not sure about the vendors.

Your first post is to link to an unscrupulous site, you totally seem legit.
Do NOT buy from that website!

Welcome to the nuthouse mate. Not from Adelaide (Melbourne for me). The Adelaidian is always rare to see in vic for some reason
-
I'm just going to put it out there, it's not a good looking watch but I've sure as hell seen worse and it's actually mechanically cool
-
Some of the gold ones can be worth a little bit but the unfortunate thing is that most people just sell the gold for scrap and throw away or sell the movement for nothing.

Good luck with the build. My preference is the black dial the black dial DD is one of my favourite Rollies

I've seen in the past people frankening Frank Muller watches but only to the point of a dial swap. The dials were (and possibly still are) sometimes hard to come by as there is an eBay seller who has a monopoly on them (buys all other sellers and resells at a ridiculous mark up)

A really good habit I've gotten into, protective of the seller in the case of a poor dealer, I always do this for purchases in this hobby and my other (photography).
(Note: this wouldn't have helped in this situation as I trust no member here was at fault)
