  1. Not terribly fond of the non-Eon-produced Thunderball remake, but to each his own  :D

Back on topic - After commenting earlier that the initial batch of dials would be my first and last, I have decided to produce ONE more, totally redesigned set of Vintage rolex dials. These will be perfect if you’re building a super-franken.

Just a few of the improvements:
    MUCH thinner fonts
Redesigned from the ground up for even more accuracy
    GEN plates  :)

I have already sold a few, but this marks the first time they will be available for RWG members' to purchase.

    Dials available:
    1665 Comex
    5517 Military
    5514 Comex
5513 concept/proto (don’t think these were ever “officially” released)
1665 SINGLE red sea dweller (the real reason I decided to do one more batch)

As I don’t intend for this to be a sales thread, just a project update, please check the parts/tools section for more info + price.

  2. Hey everyone, thought I'd start a new thread as the previous two were getting a bit cluttered.

Dials arrived today! I would have taken more pictures, but I only have a crappy iphone camera to work with atm. First thoughts: I'm amazed at the level of consistency in regards QC. No dials have any discernible print problems - everything looks crisp as it should.

I will be setting up a post in the "parts" section, as I have more dials from this batch available. While I'm extremely happy with the outcome of this batch, I will not be doing another run (so please don't ask me).

I want to thank all of the preorderer's on rwg that made this possible. If it wasn't for you, this wouldn't have ever picked up steam! Also, big shout out to aero dave for spearheading the preordering :D

  3. Still in conversations with my friendin terms of what can be acheived, but I realise that ideally i need to be able to offer -

    1. Remove existing engravings, laser etchings etc properly back to factory finish

    2. Offer correct period engravings across a number of Vintage Rolex sports models(That's my thing)

    3. Ideally be able to offer casebacks like the 1665

My idea is really to offer NOS looking work, or if you want it Aged then i'm confident i can also do this nicely

    DH

Yes, yes, and yes! I've been collecting a bunch of macros for a similar project - give me a shout if you'd like to collaborate on creating these fonts :D

  4. Whoopy's, can we get an update on where the dial project is please.

I need my DRSD dial ;)

    Dave...

    Can't wait.....Can't wait.....Can't wait.....Can't wait.....Can't wait.....Can't wait.....Can't wait.....

    Hey everyone -

Again, apologies for the wait: I expected to have the dials in my hands by now, but alas. Last contact I had was two days ago, where I was told that the dials would be finished "really soon". At this point, while I do want to get the dials asap, I also don't want to have any mishaps with the supplier (like highhoey did with his case project). I've decided to let my contact "do his thing", while requesting a weekly update. The next update I want to post on this thread will include pictures of the dials on my workbench! Until then - hang tight guys!

  5. Hi Elias,

a Yuki case is about $500 without engravings + dial $120-300 + gen crown $30-60 + movement (ETA serviced) $120-200 + crystal (not gen) $10 + Yuki/ofrei pearl $25 ... that's close to $1k, just the head. Not what I would call low-budget if you ask me ;)

If you have no experience with modding, especially modding a dial I would not attempt to do this on such a project. You could go low-budget with a cartel 5517 with minor changes done by yourself or go the Yuki route but then with the help of a skilled modder.

But only my 2 cents ;)

    +1

  6. Hand options:

As for dials: Yuki and NDT both have 5517 dials that fit 1570 movements

I'm also offering a 5517 ETA dial here:

    http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/160148-whoopys-dial-project-preorder-list/page-5

But, as woof mentioned, if you know your budget, you'll have a better idea of which parts to use.

Cartel 5517 project is in the $200 - $300 range

    Yuki 5517 project $700 - 1000

    Phong 5517 $1600 +

    Quite a difference!

  7. Good point. I bet some of those guys have no issue scavaging a 1570 from a Date or DJ to keep other watches running. Gee....one area where "matching numbers can't be proven" because Rolex is so tight lipped. So in away a saint is a sinner.

Don't movements still have serial numbers (where year manufactured can be deduced from)?

  8. nice work :good:

Means a lot coming from the case-master himself! - Thanks :D

    MEGA UPDATE - Update #10

Just received a bunch more pictures of the dials. My source told me the employee in charge of lining up films (to ensure that the dials are properly printed) is getting frustrated because of the amount of reprinting in this project :)

Thankfully, I found an intermediary who knows how business (specifically in regards to QC) is done in China. "Good enough" is not something he will accept - To be honest, it's absolutely refreshing to work with someone like this - perfectionists unite! The number of dials that will be reprinted is around 10, so I'm hoping the prints will be done asap.

Also, a message to you preorderers:

THANK YOU for funding this project. It was definitely a risk, and I've learned SO MUCH about the many processes that are essential to the success of a venture like this. I realize that there have been delays, and I apologize for the overall wait - Just know that I want these in my mailbox as much as everyone on here!

Enjoy the pictures, shoot me a pm if you guys' have any more questions!
