Rolexman is correct about the pinion direction. Had this problem and FxrAndy gave me advice, which I later confirmed, here: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/146969-fix-or-replace-busted-chrono-ebel-1911/page-2

Yep, had to replace the entire thing because the threads were stripped in the hole for the rotor screw. Put the new one on and it spins incredbily smooth free and clear of any interferences. Put the watch on the winder to make sure it's working and it started right up in only a few turns. Thanks for everyone's input.

Well it broke once again. The threads on the taped hole that the screw for the rotor fits in was stripped. I replaced the entire rotor assembly with a spare from a dead movement and it works perfectly now. Thanks for everyone's inout

Another of my very favorites. Relumed by Vac, love this with jeans. The rubber strap and clasp are the best of any watch I've ever owned.

Thats completely wrong. Panerai's crown guard is trademarked (although I didn't check to see if it was still valid). The test for trademark infringement is "market confusion." This means would a purchaser be confused as to the origin of the goods. Homages may fall under this test and PAM could likely go after them if it wished.

I have a few favorites but this is certainly one of them. Custom colorless AR from Sunnydale and VAC relume. The dial has some small tells but the crystal and lume are awesome. Just screams quality. I also really like my TC sub and a few others. Hell I can't choose, that's the whole damn problem with this hobby.

Seems like i need this... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ETA-2820-2824-2826-2822-AUTOMATIC-ROTOR-ASSEMBLY-COMPLETE-PART-1130-/110979095497?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item19d6de9bc9

Hmmm, maybe I just wasn't patient enough. It certainly didn't fall right into place. I tried to move it around to get it to mesh but it wouldn't seem to. Probably pilot error in this case. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks guys. I pressed it back in again and put it back together. If it comes off again it getting glued. One problem with pressing it in is that if it's not seated perfectly, it rubs in certain places when it spins around. Makes a sound and is annoying. A couple other comments: I tried switching the assembly out from a noob sub I have but the gears didn't mesh. I'm guessing because my TC has an ETA and the noob has Asian clone. It's really annoying that they cloned movements and didn't go 1 to 1. Also I noticed that on my TC the screw that holds the rotor gear assembly on never actually becomes tight. If I keep tightening it, it will just keep spinning like it is stripped although it does hold the rotor in place. On my noob sub, the screw tightens.

My rotor keeps coming off my TC sub (see pic). The first time it happened I took it apart and squeezed the rotor back together with the gear and portion that appears to press fit with the rotor. That didn't work because it came off again. My question is how is the rotor supposed to attach to the gear below. I can't see any thing other than a press fit to the silver ring. This seems like a really stupid idea though. Why would they make that all one piece? Maybe mine is broken? Any advice about how these two pieces are supposed to go together and how I can permanently fix mine would be greatly appreciated.

I wear mine in the ocean all the time and never wipe it off and have never seen a spec of rust. I've even filled the bezel with sand and salt body surfing and left it for weeks before taking it apart to remove it...no rust.

Thanks guys. There is no doubt the tool is a dud. I'm sure it's Chinese crap made to extremely poor tolerances and thus, some work....some don't. I have the grease so I'll lube the gaskets before I put it back together. I'll try opening with the ball when it comes but will consider a better die for closing. Maybe I can just buy a 29.5 die somewhere instead of the entire new set? All this started when I wore the watch body surfing in the ocean over the 4th. It was completely water tight and no issues there but the jarring knocked something loose internally. The watch still seems to work fine but it sounds like the entire movement may have come loose. When you rock the watch back and forth it sound like a giant loose ball bearing is hitting the sides of the case. The bezel also filled with sand and was unmovable. I was easily able to remove that, clean everything and replace. Just need to square away the terrible sound now.

Same prob here

@cpt - thanks for the advice. I just did. @Erict - the teeth of the die's don't seem to mesh very well with the teeth of the caseback. Accordingly, it slips before ever opening the case.

Hey guys, can anyone recommend a good case back opener for our rolex subs, particularly TC's. I purchased an opener off Amazon for about $50 and it sucks. I couldn't open TC's sub or a noob sub with it. The product seems like good quality except the die's don't really fit very well on the baseback so all it does is slip and scratch. It's more of a caseback scratcher instead of an opener. Thanks in advance.

Ha One of the worst and most blatant ebay fake posts I've seen

The lack of AR is really impressive. I don't think I've ever seen a crystal that reflective
