genuine tube will not fit into replica case?
imajedi replied to horologist's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Had the same problem on a 42 mm V5. Ended up using a 2 part epoxy, which like you I wasn't keen on, but it did work perfectly. -
Thx for all the info

Any explanation why the dial on the 3717 in the middle looks so much blacker than the one on the end? Is one of the dials gen or is it just the angle?
-
Of all the watches I've owned, I likes it the least. Looks like a toy in real life, not like a watch. Just my opinion. It also probably had the worst build quality. Date wheel didn't line up at all, bezel is not gen construction. Just overall not for me.

That's not a "dial mod" it's a sticker.

I'm perfectly happy to blaze the idiot trail in hopes of preventing others from following. I just appreciate the knowledge of everyone here. Without you guys I'd be wandering aimlessly in the dark.

Great, mods please delete this thread as it turns out I'm an idiot. Thanks to all who got me straightened out.

Side question, will the feet on a gen dial fit the 2824?
-
FxrAndy, thanks for clearing that up. Maybe an admin should delete this thread so no-one gets confused. Thanks for the info guys.

If I line up the crown positions you can see these two movements are not the same. The one on the right with the date wheel was sold to me as a SW200. The one on the left (gold) came out of my Omega 42mm and I just assumed it was a 2824-2. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong here?

I also read that thread. It was talking about how the SW200 was a replacement for the 2824 and the SW220 was a replacement for the 2836. I don't believe that thread had any discussion of the dial feet or date wheel. I did not cut the dial feet, there was no where to stick them so I order an ETA 2824. You could tell without the dial on that the date alignments were way off just by the way they aligned with the stem. When I compared the date wheels I could see the difference in print. I will try and post some pics.

Hey all, Just wanted to drop a few comments here to alert people that the Sellita SW200 is not just a "drop-in" replacement for your 2824-2. I bought a 42mm Omega off a member here and every few hours the thing would stop. If you jolted it really hard it would start up again. I've had a few watches like this in the past and usually it means the movement is dirty. Rather than clean the movement, which I don't know how to do, I thought I'd just replace it. All the research I could find said the SW200 is a direct replacement for the 2824-2 so I thought I'd give it a try because it was significantly cheaper. DATE WHEELS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE The first issue came when I tried to swap the date wheels. Although functionally the swap worked fine, the printing on the SW200 is a little low on the date wheel tangs while the printing on the 2824-2 is a little hight on the tangs. Consequently, your dates don't line up in the date window at all if you try and swap out the date wheels. Moral - if you buy a SW200 you're going to be stuck with the date wheel it came with. DIAL FEET ARE NOT COMPATIBLE The next issue was the dial feet. The SW200 had nothing to accomodate the dial feet on my Omega 42mm dial. Unless I wanted to cut the feet. It wasn't going to work. Bottom line, I tried to save some money and instead wasted some. I'll keep the movement with the hopes it may come in handy sometime in the future. I orderd a replacement 2824. Hope this helps someone else make the right decision the first time. - Jedi -

Been a member here for about a year. Started off by taking apart a 7750 and trying to fix it myself. #Fail. Since that time I've gradually been advancing my horing skills and collecting tools along the way. Bought a Sunnydale xtal for a 42 mm Omega a long time ago. Sunnydale gave me an xtal for my SMP chrono and it was so amazing I just bought a xtal for the 42 PO without even owning the watch. Fast forward 5 months and I picked up a V5 with gen crown and tube installed. The problem was when it showed up the tube stripped out the first time I changed the date. The clasp was also terrible to the point I couldn't get the watch off my wrist without breaking the clasp. So because I wanted to install the new xtal anyway, and the tube was stripped out, apart it all came. I cleaned all the old cement off (the gen tube is a little smaller and must be cemented in) and reinstalled the gen tube and crown. Crystal came out and Sunnydale went in. I took the clasp apart and came up with a nifty little mod and now it works flawlessly. I had to reassemble everything five times before I got it exactly how I wanted it, no dust, hands actually attached, all the rookie mistakes. But I think it came out so good and it's amazing how far I've come since I first found RWG. Thanks to all the great people here for sharing all their incredible knowledge. I love this hobby.
