  1. best, up close side-by-side i've seen yet. very informative. thanks!
  2. Looks great, it's a beautiful watch and is OK for your wrist. The PAM was always intended to look big, so the contrast of a smaller wrist vs. the watch is completely consistent with the look. My wrist is in the 7.5" range and I can't comfortably wear more than a 44mm. Enjoy your watch, the more you wear it the more you'll like it.
  3. I have a new MBW 1680. Regardless of what you get, you MUST check the oring seal inside the caseback and make sure it is.... THERE.... and properly lubricated. Sometimes the factories actually forget to put them on. In my case the watch has held up perfectly... i swim several times a week, wear in steam room, wore it skiing at neg10-20F and not had any problem.
  4. As I pointed out before, you need to run this by the forum over at NAWCC... a little engraving on the cover does not make it a glashutte or "system glashutte" whatever that means. I cannot i.d. a glashutte movement... although there are many recased movements floating around and likewise plenty of franken-pocketwatches. However I will say that the finish on the back of that movement does not suggest a high end movement like a glashutte. Looks very fishy.
  5. not glashutte, doesn't even look german. i'd guess its american made, circa 1910-1930. probably gold filled or plated. if that is true and the watch is in working order, its worth $100 +/-$50. If it is solid 14k gold, then perhaps $300-400. If 18k, $500 (although it doesn't appear to be). just my guess. for more insight from experts, go to pocket watch forum at NAWCC: http://nawcc-mb.infopop.cc/groupee/forums

You don't have to worry about the motor, DINAN supercharger is tops. But sounds like you don't want the performance anyway... my rule of thumb was always... a little more horsepower is good... a lot more horsepower is better... and way too much horsepower is... just right. But what do i know, i feel like getting out and giving a push in cars with less than 500hp

slay, you might consider getting the 3series bmw and then doing a serious mod to it. if you want some ideas visit the website for DINAN. You can turn a simple 3 series into the equivalent of an M3. The great thing about this route, is you can do it in stages as it becomes affordable. The main factor however is whether you have a nearby dealer that can do DINAN mods, which for an experienced BMW mechanic should not be too difficult. just a thought, may broaden the possibilities for you.
  9. Hi Dave, Just to echo the sentiments above... glad to have you back!
  10. neil, there is no real good fix that a factory can make other than have the bezel markers NSEW cut or cast from the same piece of steel as the bezel itself. I had a polex YM with a crown emblem (much like the NSEW mkrs) which was spot welded to the clasp. It broke off eventually and no method of supergluing would keep in place for more than a few weeks -- i eventually gave up and polished the spot/indent where it was attached to the clasp. On a bezel, the spot/indent remains an eyesore and cannot be polished away. I'm concerned that unless the factories take the step to do these bezels right, this will remain a problem. I asked another dealer about this and he suggested that the cost of doing the bezel in the manner would be prohibitive... a shame, big shame. BTW, thanks for being straight with us... that counts big time to me.
  11. i have a brown croc strap with ss polex clasp. it came on polex from josh but the strap was too small so i took it off. if you are interested in the strap, have a smaller wrist and are conus, i can measure this and send you a pic. just pm. good luck.
  12. joe, thx for the frontal view of the date window as well, not as bad as i'd guessed. as for the surf&turf shots, hmmmmmm, maybe someone's been spending a little too much time in the sun????? lol, just kidding. how about putting ss bracelet on it... that'll will be my choice when el get's his perfected.
  13. joe, can we get a straight on shot of the face so we can see the date window/font. I have yet to see a single picture of the date window. I realize it won't be pretty, just wondering how legible the date is. Thanks.
  14. I'd like to know what the thickness of the gen is and also any reps that have been received. I have seen various dealers indicating thicknesses from 13mm to 16mm, and would like to know what is closest to gen? Thanks. Also anyone who gets a rep... i'd love to see some shots of the movement - is the movement still held in place with those crappy looking white plastic rings???
  15. been there, done that. pry the bezel off, when you do that you'll see where the excess glue is causing a problem--probably right between the insert and crystal. if you get the slightest amount in there it will jam the bezel (as your is). after doing a number of inserts and having to be extremely careful with the superglue, i switched to using clear 5 minute epoxy-- it is better option for several reasons. next time you glue the bezel, just remember that after it is in place, wait a minute or two and then carefully turn the bezel to avoid any sticky spots from hardening. again, take my advice, use the 5 minute epoxy, you'll get better results.
  16. hi, just curious, are either of your pasha like the one i have pictured--with the grid. i've seen several pashas, but very few with the removable grid. this one also has an eta movt.
  17. cajun... yep, mine is from gaio--great guy to deal with. although he does this purely as a hobby.
  18. osteo--can't wait to see it, these are great little watches to play around with mods... at the end of the day you end up with a very solid, functional watch which looks cool and can really take a beating.
  19. Water & steam tested the monster today ... interesting... the little monster seemed to actually LIKE swimming in chlorine and then being roasted in the 160-degree sauna ... this little monster may wind up with more than a black eye soon...
  20. ok hans... but you didn't tell us which one is the BEST sub... just kidding, very cool chronology--big thanks!
  21. thanks to davewe for turning me on to the guy who twists genes, faces, and outer rings on these Seiko monsters, to come up with something which is downright scary and just the thing for summer days at the beach... here it is... the BLACK-EYED ORANGE MONSTER...
  22. Like this one... sounds like a meat grinder... but, guess what, my watches don't know the difference. $9.99 plus $50 S&H. Trust me, i'm beyond the point of trying to impress people by the brand of watchwinder i use (LOL). So far it is working fine and the watches are happy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...Y_BID_Stores_IT
  23. Mike-- i keep the winder in my office because it is too loud, but i still don't want it running all night in case it catches on fire -- as i said, it is very cheaply made. i'm betting it dies within 3 mos, but who knows i could be pleasantly surprised.
  24. 26 put us at 224
  25. nice collection. of the 2 or 3 dozen watches i own, the two best in terms of accuracy are the mbw 1680 and FM Conq 2893. I think if the first rep i had bot was the1680, i probably would have stopped there -- no, maybe not. but anyhow, i also wear my pam 027A, rg pam 158 and seiko OM. i've got a lot of nice ones that rarely see the light of day, but it is nice to dig them out every once in a while.
