  1. rolli...very nice combo can i ask a question on the 087... this is not directed toward your watch, but just trying to get a reasonable answer from anyone who cares to chime in... what is the the deal with the alignment on those 8-oclock and 10-oclock markers. I don't get it, is the alignment like that on the gen? if not, why on earth would the factory align them like that???
  2. ... Modern Times hit #1 on the billboard this last week, its first week out of the gates...
  3. rob, nice pictorial (and nice to have you back), your comment on the cgs is insightful and something many of us should read over and over a few times when we get so fixated on the shape of mod'd cg's --just goes to show that the vintage subs are not as precisely proportioned as we may have thought!
  4. review? or rained out?
  5. check this one out... i'm thinking this watch doesn't want something tooo distracting... basically subtle, high class, a bit of grain, but not too heavy, matte finish... clean lines... what do you think? http://www.banda.com/detail.php?from=catal...ord=&page=0
  6. pug-thank you. that is correct, i have this buckle and it is on a springbar that doesn't show on the outer sides of the buckle.
  7. you can transfer the buckle from the rep strap over to a higher quality croc strap.
  8. poodang, you've already heard from silix that they rec'd your order... give it another week before worrying about a tracking #... usually by the time a tracking number becomes available, the watch is sitting in your mailbox.
  9. silix sent a confirm that order was rec'd and indicated they would send an email when they have a tracking number... if they ship sometime this coming week, some of us may have them in hand by end of the week of 9/8 or following. i'd guess several are in hand by mid-september. enjoy... the a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-i-o-n is the best part...
  10. i like that bracelet, i don't know how well the endlinks mesh with your OM case. i put the black seiko rubber band on it and really like it that way. i have a new OM s/s bracelet which i would sell. here's a pic of the rubber band:
  11. can you post a pic of that strap... i'm just starting to think about what to put on it... was actually thinking about a nice cartier black croc... anyone else picked out a strap yet, or waiting to see what the rep strap looks like...?
  12. LnT, i'm envious, would luv to head up to fishkill. please takes some notes on your reaction to the concert and give us a review, much appreciated. edd--must have taken waits 30 years of drinking and smoking to make his voice sound like that?!
  13. there is a lesson in this for the factories... probably statistically a lot more of us that can wear a 44mm watch than those that wear a 47mm watch with ease. i like the mini-fiddy and i'd also like to see any of the other 47+ sizes downsized to a 44mm... that goes for the pam monster sub as well.
  14. good stuff, thx. best description of his latest is 'tom waits on prozac' ... has all the raspy cragginess of waits, but very mellow. i've always admired dylan... kind of a thinking man on acid's musician...
  15. just checking out bob's newest, and maybe raspiest... but completely enjoyable album, MODERN TIMES. it's folksy, laid back, upbeat, somehow familiar and completely lacking in pretense. kinda music you need at high volume when you're flying across the countryside in a dated convertible... just kinda rambles along, some with a nice story line, and plenty of turn-of-phrases. sometimes that's what i think bob's lyrics are... a chain of cleverly crafted turn of the phrases. i haven't listened to dylan for 20 or 30 years, so i've missed plenty... anything else in the discography i should pay attention to?
  16. that seller has an interesting array of watches... some are chinese movts, some appear to be reconditioned gens... others he claims are new gens, but prices look too low... anyone have any color on this seller?
  17. too much blue--causes the subdials to be difficult to quickly observe and read, probably the reason red font was used for the 12-oclock marker on the subdials. i like the panda best, with simple but obvious contrasting subdials, which also compliment the black strap--provides balance and utility.
  18. kev, you may want to make a notation next to names on the sign-up list (post #1) showing who has followed through and paid. it may help remind those who have not done so yet.
  19. Well, maybe this is a bit premature, as those of us in the group buy haven't yet received our pandas. But it won't be long -- I'd like to put a very high class, super premium black croc strap on mine... i've dealt with a few strap dealers in the past (the folks in texas, etc.) but I want something that is top shelf quality... any suggestions... The other idea i had was to see if the SS bracelet from say, an IWC chrono or GST would fit the panda -- I have seen a gen outfitted with the bracelet which looked nice... the trick is whether the lugholes would line up and whether the endlink would be nice and flush against the case... ???
  20. fantastic! and you are absolutely right about it being artwork. the craftsmanship is remarkable. it is scary how close this comes to the gen... only visible difference is that it doesn't have 30 years of wear and tear. enjoy!
  21. jk, how about this one... 125th Anniversary Portuguese Jubilee edition... Here's Dave Gates' backgrounder (he owns the sister rep of this watch... the only other one i'm aware of) IWC 125th Anniversary Portuguese Jubilee SS; diameter 37+ mm; hand-wound movement; seconds subdial at 6 o'clock To plan for IWC's 125th Anniversary, development began in 1990 of a "Jubilee" edition of the Portuguese that would eventually emerge in 1993. The original watch does not actually say "IWC" on the dial, and its 6 o'clock subdial is quite a bit larger, covering the 6. However, this was a limited edition watch--125 copies to celebrate 125 years--and the rep is a very beautiful "approximation" of this rare Portuguese, which is no doubt is seen only in the finest of private collections. I wore it for the first time today, and as I have occasionally said about certain other watches, this is elegant simplicity at its finest. This is an unpretentious dress watch that just reeks of quality and good taste--no need to say much more
  22. went to his album, could not find 064. could you provide a link please. thanks. EDIT: found it: http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b14/pure...RSIBLE%201000M/
  23. fantastic pics. how thick is the case? what's the quality of the strap--standard rep quality or otherwise? how about a wrist shot? again, very impressive photography.
  24. t... i think we are talking about waiting another week or two (not months) -- most dealers will have it by then. i own over 30 watches, and i can assure you that it is ALWAYS wise to wait until at least a few are in other members hands so that you know what the flaws are. EVERY rep will have flaws... the question is whether you want to know before you receive it... or when you open the package... most of us are in the first category. i'm still trying to confirm the dimensions(!) of the watch. keep your chin up.
  25. I haven't yet seen any pictures of the new IWC Port Chrono with a S/S bracelet. What does that look like? But, hard to beat the panda with black leather.
