I have a blackeyed orange monster (black chapter ring on orange face) with the black rubber diver band. Consequently, I have a spare S/S bracelet (oem) which i would consider offers on. Its brand new, never worn. PM me if you're interested.

it's called risk management, every dealer with half a brain 'disappears' every so often, and then reappears with a completely different identity and no paper trail. think about it.

aside from the yellow face, the sector has a completely different bezel and pushers have the nut/bolt configuration which is also one of a kind. bracelet/lugs combo also unique to the sector -- the Ti bracelet is one of the best i've come across. i still think the sector is a much chunkier tool of a watch... but hey, i guess that's why i own it.

i've tried many types of glue, super glue, gorillillilla, contact, etc., only one i really like is 2part clear epoxy... takes about 5 minutes to harden so you can adjust alignment, has some flex so it won't crack and is pretty easy to use. goodluck.

... ok, here's the update after having this monster on my wrist for over a week. and yes i've worn pams, rollies, etc. etc. so i have a reasonable frame of reference, although admittedly my wrist is medium sized at 7.5-8". the watch remains very wearable... actually amazingly wearable given its dimensions (again thanks to the titanium) and I find it is very readable (excellent lume), crystal does its thing in terms of aiding the viewability of the dial, and best of all, it keeps excellent time, i'm guessing we're within +/-10seconds for the first week. so if you want my vote on best value in 1000M diving watches, i can unqualifiedly give this watch a big 2 thumbs up... very enjoyable tool to have attached to the wrist!

chris--i'd guess that it's my photo skills that are 'under par' -- sometimes a macro lens shows things which aren't really there... the finish is actually very nice, although, if i had my choice i would get this watch with an entirely matte finish, which in my opinion is ideal for titanium and brings out its bronze/brown nuance vs. stainless. the thing that really makes this one rock is the nice fat domed sapphire crystal which appears to have an a/r coating on the inside. as for sector watches... i totally agree with you... most of them just don't do it for me, and if i recall a lot of them are quartz, probably competing with low end seiko... i just don't know why they stopped making the dt1000, it is by far the most impressive model they've come up with. here's a link to the review of the sector apnea... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...mp;#entry149201

ken, when i started watching these 18mos ago, i saw a few go by in the $700-800 range, but they showed wear consistent with age. over the last couple months, i have not seen a DT1000 chrono with yellow or orange face go for under $1200. i have seen the non-chrono date version at the $600 level and some of the less popular dial colors (blue, black, silver) for $800-1000. This particular one was in mint condition, not a scratch on it, virtually never worn and i felt i paid a fair price which was a little more. if you want a great 1000M titanium diver, this is a bargain, and i'd bet they hold their value as they've been out of production for 5 years.

I was infected over a year ago when Nanuq put up a couple pictures of his Sector Diving Team 1000M... So ever since I've been scouring for one on the cheap and after watching a number of them go by on the 'bay in various configurations, this one came up and I just couldnt take it any longer... ...anyhow, for those of you who didn't see my review of the Sector APNEA, I'll repeat my comment that while 'Sector' is not what you would consider a luxury brand, it has during its history come up with a couple really decent watches that are affordable, uniquely designed and are becoming increasing collectable. For years the Diving Team 1000M was arguably the flagship of the brand, although it was discontinued about 5 years ago -- why, I do not know. Sector had made a considerable investment in its branding effort by sponsoring a number of 'extreme' sportsmen (and women) known as the NO LIMITS Team, such as Umberto Pelizzari, who has set several records for 'free diving' which involves diving under strictly controlled conditions while holding his breath. The Sector Apnea in my collection has an inscribed signature of Umberto Pelizzari, although this DT1000 does not -- there is however a limited edition version of the DT1000 with a more orange face, of which 700 units were made which does have the UP signature. DETAILS: MFR: SECTOR MODEL: Diving Team 1000M/3300Ft Case width: 42mm Width incl crown: aprox 46-47mm Thickness: 20mm Bracelet width: 20mm Face: yellow/3 subdials/date window Case/bracelet material: Titanium -- case&bezel sides are polished, top of bezel, lugs and bracelet are matte. Movement: Swiss 7750 Bezel: 1-way ratchet rotatable Unusual features: while the sapphire crystal on this DT1000 must be at least 6mm thick, it also has a cyclops on top, i have not seen a cyclops on many other DT1000s, although I was told that it is oem. Observations: I do not like thick watches (i.e. thicker than 12mm), but this one does not feel anywhere as thick as it is, perhaps that is because it is titanium and therefore you do not notice the weight and it does not pull at your wrist. It feels like a much smaller watch. The movement keeps excellent time, with no noticeable loss or gain during the first week of operation. Each chrono pusher has an interesting looking nut which screws out to allow operation. The watch box comes with a tiny wrench (spanner) that can be used to loosen the nut if necessary -- more like a gimick although kind of humorous. Bottom line: very chunky looking and surprisingly comfortable dive watch... this is a fascinating and fun watch which will only grow in scarcity as those remaining in circulation find their way into collectors hands.

Best Black 'paint' For Bezel Engravings?
Watchwatcher replied to Watchwatcher's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
gun bluing pen, good idea, i'll look into it. does need to be something that can stand up to chlorinated pool water, which is where i wear it the most when i'm practising for dives. i will also check out the auto paint, although if it is lacquer based, you really have to be careful with that as the solvent in the paint can cause problems. thx. again guys! -
Hi there, I've got a diving team 1000 (Sector) which could use some freshening up of the black engraved numerals in the bezel. I am wondering what the experts recommend to do this... i am assuming it is some type of lacquer based paint, but I'd like to hear what others use for this purpose. To illustrate, here's a picture of a DT1000 date with really nice looking engravings which have a sharp nice black finish:

Watchwatcher replied to Pugwash's topic in The Rolex Area
luckyyy deal, price was under 3, maybe it was going out of business sale? The Zigmeister lume special cg's maybe swap the pearl someday but the idea from the start is to get the most with the least... -
capecod cloth is pretty effective.

How do so many morons co-exist in one space without creating a black-hole in the vortex of the universe which eventually sucks all forms of intelligence into it????? Anyone who understands dealers, KNOWS that from time to time they MUST (MUST...all CAPS) change online identities for security reasons. ANYONE here who thinks, considers, suspects, presumes.... that EDDIE is getting out of the business, is... um...CLUELESS ...And, btw, .... have a nice day!

EMS is delivered by USPS... HOWEVER... if the USPS regional office that receives the EMS is within a short distance of your home... say 3-5 miles, they usually DO attempt delivery on Sunday morning. However, you have to be home to sign for it, otherwise they will leave the normal orange tag indicating that they will attempt delivery again on the following day. I have received a couple EMS packages on Sunday and was completely surprised to see a USPS mail truck in front of my house.

you bet. with an organic material (like acrylic) you can put down an anti-scratch treatment that improves scratch resistance by as much as 10x. Next comes the AR coating, and if you want you can follow that with a moisture repellant. you end up with a high durability and high visibility under most conditions, and if you've relumed it, great night visibility to boot. this kind of functionality is exactly what polex had in mind when the watch was designed, they just didn't have some of these coatings, etc. available at that time.
-
oh, i agree that the vintage crystal were probably never done with AR--that probably also applies to PAM 127, etc. that were modeled after vintages. I am not a purist in trying to make the rep look like a genuine vintage, that is kind of futile in certain regards. However, I think a two-sided AR job on a superdome would not only improve the visibility/reduce reflection associated with the thick crystal, but also improve aesthetics. Anyone else want to weigh in?
-
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought Neil was in contact with the dealer/stall in bangkok that supplies the MBWs. Considering his interest in taking his business to a new level, I'd assume that if he does have access to this source of supply, he might consider handling a group buy. I am interested in a vintage DRSD. I am already LUCKYYY to have the 1680, which is by far the best rep i've ever seen. WW
-
I am curious whether either the clark or helfends super domes for the DRSD come with AR coating, or, if not, would it make sense to do a nice AR on both sides before installing it? I am assuming that my optician can do the AR coating--same as what he uses on my glasses--or is the AR coating on the crystals different for some reason. THX.

Breitling Steelfish Superocean Released
Watchwatcher replied to PureTime's topic in The Breitling Area
angus, only one question... same one i usually ask... how thick is this rep... from pics it looks like 14-16mm? yes/no? how does this compare to the gen? -
puretime is coming out with a new arktos 'north pole' in jan that is the best yet, great ar and welded bezel markers, if you can be patient this is the one.
-
um... to those who do not know diddly about Ti, maybe you would be well advised to do a little research before you make comments which have lead to this topic being a drain-cloggin 18 pages long. dummmdidddlydummmdummmdummm.
-
what is the problem with Ti??? there are so few decent reps in Ti... do we really need another hunk of stainless steel that weighs a ton? why I'd vote in favor of Ti... 1) stealthy looking 2) hypoallergenic 3) light 4) strong 5) subtle & unusual 6) tremendous corrosion resistance (that matters when you swim in chlorine, or spill crap on the watch) ...
-
if the ar coating is not too heavy, you may find that wiping the crystal with a capecod cloth will take it off. it certainly wont scratch it, and my experience is that whatever the solvent is in capecod cloths can take off light ar coating.

Chinese Springbars Kaput... Where
Watchwatcher replied to Watchwatcher's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
that an idea. maybe pick out the 3-5 most common sizes everyone wants, order 100bag of each from OFREI and then I'd split them up and ship them out... probably US only though to keep the S&H simple... for $6 ($10 x 5 +$12shpg), you'd get 10bars each in 5sizes. It's a little bit of an effort for a few lousy pairs of springbars... thoughts?
