PP is too fast to react and given the very nature of our forum, we can hardly go Public with PP and the trades we undertake, is PP the safest I wonder. The member that bought my original Vertu phone has, when I looked further, 2 positives since being a member 6 years ago, I have only been here since Septemebr last year and have accrued 7 very positive posts from the likes of Mike on a Bike. Mellons and other, well known members. In future, on high value sales, I think i will insist on a Bank transfer as it is far too easy for someone to disrupt ones world with a PP dispute even when you've done nothing wrong. This guy could be in possesion of the phone and think I can get away with this and get my money back in full knowledge that i need to resolve the matter, not great PP! Regards Astonjenks

Here's a question that i would like answered if possible? Th eguy that has made the PP claim knows that the item was sent on the 22nd Dec, is it okay for him to cause a dispute in less than 3 weeks given the fact that we are both UK based and the Post Office has said they were snowed under with parcels etc over the XMas period, that is to say, only 20 days or so has elapsed and certainly nothing like the 45 I have read about? It depends on the movement in the watch, suffice to say if it is an ETA movement and the dial and hands match, ie are for an ETA movement you're good to go, however, having just finished a Rolex 6538 Bond Sub Vinatge build, I would imagine the original movement in the rep might not be an ETA. Get the dial and the handset to go with the 2836 ETA would b emy advice. Astonjenks

Thanks guys Because my wife thought she was doing a good thing and saving costs the value of Insurance cover is £50 on such a delivery and in the words of the Post Office chap, you'll need to be very patient as they will not readily comply with anything on this. Even if they did say ok, here's £50, that still leaves a huge disparity between cost/loss and compensation. Her logic was that this was a UK to UK delivery and should not have a challenge. As i say, the lesson is pay up to make sure and be careful not to declare the correct value of the package! Best regards Andy

Ken I empathise with you. We sold an item to a member and my wife was told at the Post Office that to send the item tracked was an unecerssary expense and that Registered was as good. Saving about £8 in cost she duly sent it registered on the 22nd Dec. This was an expensive item at £500. I was unhappy at her decision, however guess what, teh buyer says it never turned up, the Post Office say we cannot track an untrackable package (you should have sent it tracked) and the Paypay account ends up frozen due to the other member crying foul. So not only do we loose the item, we are left with no option but to pay back the £500 to release the account. Who is to say he has not recieved it, who is to say a neighbour of his hasn't signed for it? My reputation is more important than one transaction as well as my listing as i always share who I am openly with any buyers. Th elesson, in my case very expensive lesson, is a) always send tracked, do not let your wife make decisions on such matters! Regards Asronjenks

astonjenks replied to Higs's topic in The Panerai Area
When I bought the latest Fiddy from PT it had the standard yellow/tan rep strap which is ok, however, when I commissioned the attached Ostrich strap and it arived, I was and still am delighted with it, 26mm x 26,mm, 5 mm down to 4mm. Posted previously I know but you did ask! Regards Astonjenks -
That would be useful. Also, what are you actually changing and with what? Regards AstonJenks

Many thanks. It's amazing how these things can vary in price depending on 'Names' and Fashion, but this guy is truly a craftsman and makes each strap by hand in Barcelona and for what is under $100!

Building my first watch. Need to know where to get a movement
astonjenks replied to DeeCee's topic in General Discussion
The Case the new ETA is going into is a Raffles 38.5mm, is that the same size as your case? The new movement is specifiaclly for this build and I am removing the DG movement which is I believe the same size as the ETA 2824, i just do not know yet if it has a date wheel until i remove it to replace it. I will keep you posted. The new ETA is about $175 which i thought was an okay price? Regards Astonjenks -
Building my first watch. Need to know where to get a movement
astonjenks replied to DeeCee's topic in General Discussion
I have a DG ETA 2824-2 that is coming out of my Bond Rolex Sub shortly as I have bought a new Swiss ETA. I do not know about the date wheel yet as it has a dial less face. I also have a set of new Snowflake hands for sale. Th enew Swiss ETA has a date wheel that I am happy not to keep. The movement feels very strong and has over 40 hrs of power reserve and keeps perfect time. Regards Astonjenks -
PM sent Regards and thanks Astonjenks

TD made a mistake - Who should pay for it?
astonjenks replied to kramerica2's topic in General Discussion
My first experience with PT was far from perfect and like you I vowed nopt to go back, however, I tried him again as I really wanted a Noob version of a Panerai that only he could supply.. I can confirm that I have since purchased 6 watches with a combined bvalue of over $2000 and hav ehad impecable service. Each watch has arrived in the UK within a week and a half. I believe Angus will sort it out if you reach out to him. Astonjenks -
Guys What about Old School as attached? The GT40 needs no introduction! This was me driving the Prince of Denmark around in a Charity event in Denmark for the Red Cross. The event raised nearly $500k (some good footage on Youtube) The White Lightweight E Type we rebuilt from scratch and won every European Classic. This is me leading the 2008 Spa 6 hour event surrounded by no less than 6 GT 40's and Cobras! The Field was over 100 cars. The last is my Old Aston Martin DB4 Lightweight, 450 bhp in 1000 kgs. This car allowed me to win the Aston Martin Championship in 2003, ten years ago! as they say, it flies when you're having fun. There's some good footage on Youtube of another Aston I raced whish is the sister car to the Muncher that raced at Le Mans in 1977 and 1979 if anyone wants a link. This beast had 650bhp in 1250kgs Best regards Astonjenks (now you know where my name came from)

Navitimer Montbrillant Legende Braclet/Strap Option?
astonjenks posted a topic in The Breitling Area
Do any of you Breitling guys know if there is a replacement leather or rubber strap for the Montbrillant Stainless Steel polished strap? The lugs are very wide and the strap is called 'Integrated'? Many thanks Astonjenks -
My old friend David Duggan, I have spent many tens of thousands with David and his Northern counterpart Ian Blowers over the years (pre Banking Crash) I guess my answer to your question is this, there will always be beautiful old pieces that are in excellent condition, these are typically the ones that make a premium for that exact reason, their condition. In my younger days we used to 'distress' pieces of furniture to try and look used/old, to give them Patina which sometimes worked, often not. I guess one can 'Age' too much and distress over the top in an attempt to make something new be accepted as old, the same goes for cars and many other such things. However, if one was to reduce this ageing, it must make life easier and the piece simply look less batterred? Personal choice I guess! Best regards Astonjenks
