I mostly concur (as usual) with tomhorn, except that I think MQ has the best Newman dials. Probably, the most expensive, but, once you rise to the V72 level, you should demand only the best available.
(coronets are gens)
Good God...
Very Nice

Naturally faded
Very Nice.
Love it

i like faded but not beat to [censored].
some discoloration looks great. its when theyre scratched to death and the pearls busted out makes them look like [censored].
something like this.
is perfect aging imo.
I too like this insert but the insert and the watch does not match.
The first thought that comes to my mind whenever I see inserts like this is...
"How do you keep an insert SCRATCH FREE for 45 years, fading it out with sun, salt, chemicals natuarlly, while the watch is beat and polished?"
-
Hmm I like where this discussion is going but I think there is some confusion that needs to be addressed...
The first insert is NOT an attempted fading of the 2nd insert. They are 2 separate inserts..
Carry on

Beyeler and Singer were the top 2 outsourced dial makers for Rolex
Both had stamping on gen dial backs -
In regards to a Birth year watch, I would save up for a gen.
Reserve the Reps / Frankens to watches you might flip -
To Fade or Not to Fade... that is the age old question.
Which do you prefer and why?

I had a similar experience with a beat up long 5 insert last week at a local repair shop.
I asked the watchmaker if he had any old inserts... he goes back, and comes back with thisPaid ... well PM me if you want to know...

Ooh I like the dial. Good serif and cornet. Looks like hihos old dial.
I like the bezel, looks gen.
I don't like the crown, looks rep. The only thing I would change.
Everything else looks great.

One of the nicest 1680 Frankens I've ever seen .. Period.
A great balance of keeping to budget and upgrading what's important.
PM me if you ever decide to sell or part out.

Dang DB.... so if you use 100% gen parts.. is it a Franken? Super-Franken? or Gen?
-
Wow can't wait to see some results !!!
Next you need to get a pantograph machine and start engraving cases... do it

I'm in the same boat.
First hooked on 1680
Now hooked on 5513

You and your family are in my prayers.
May you overcome this horrible affliction.
I personally have 3 sons and I can't even imagine how I would handle your situation.
Put faith in God, through which all things are possible, even the impossible.

Maybe it's a C+I rivet for the US market. They were not marked.
+1 on the picture
