  1. Here is a picture of a gen feet first dial that you would expect to see on a 2-4 million serial range before the precomex and Maxi dials

Look at the S in Oyster.  Look at the flat S in Submariner.  Look at the placement of the SWISS T < 25.  Look at the thickness of the font

  2. I love the build.  Good choice in parts for budget, but still retaining the vintage feel.

The thing I don't understand about all these Franken Red 1680 builds is.... why the silver date wheel?
Gen Red 1680's were born with white date wheels.

The silver date wheels came later on the white dials.

  3. Beautiful example. That dial sets it apart from anything else. The Tudor 76100 and 79090 both used a dial which had similar triangle indicies, but they all had date windows. Your beautiful example is obviously no date. I cannot find another reference which used this dial outside of the early 80's Tudor Subs made for the Marine National.

Someone is welcome to correct me, but I did lots and lots of searching on this. Any example you see with this dial is a MN Sub.

Tudor 94010 is a no date sub that uses this dial and is not MN

  4. That may be true, but most of us can't order from them.

    Dave...

    Why not?

I called ST and told them I was a watchmaker and they gave me a Temporary account.

After my first order, they upgraded me to a permanent account automatically.

There was no actual verification to see that I was an actual watchmaker.

  5. Pam 007, thank you for the nice words and this great photo.  The inserts are definitely brothers or cousins at least. You want to sell me that pearl  ;)

What year is yours?  The dial text is quite a bit different.  Beautiful time piece you have there.  I am very happy with this build and will give it plenty of love, but some day I will find the perfect 1966 5513 with a Bart Simpson gilt dial.  For now this will do rather nicely.

Ha !   the pearl doesn't even match your plots   :prop:

Our inserts are cousins for sure, made from the same plate.

Mine is a 2 mil SN 1969 Last of the Meter First Dials

I think for the price, the Yuki case is terrific value. It takes a bit of work to reshape but it's a great base. Fact it can accept a gen movement is a bonus.

Well, it's in the mail. You should have it early next week.

It sure is a fat pig though, look at those lugs.

Great job on the crown guards !!

  6. Awesome build man.

I love how you kept to the genuine feel of a 5513 while keeping your budget in mind.

Making very Smart sacrifices.  Love your insert, :)

I put your build next to my gen to see how spot on your build is.  Incredible man.
