Agreed PamMan- I have never come across a CG lever that did not need to be shortened to work with a PALP crown and obtain the desired clearance from case side as well. Cheers

T - Always up for better parts if someone can take the time to make them... My thoughts echo what has been said - the next generation crown should be 2.0mm 60 "Teeth" Deeper recess for lever than PALP (Avoid having to trim levers) High polished all over including the recess. Slightly deeper "ditch" recess on the underside and deeper collar to ensue pronounced 1mm gao from the case. If you can do these then I'd be up for a couple at least. Good luck

All of them sound great Jay - especially the Pre-V Luminor models and I agree with Peep- the 26 was the hidden black gem of the glitzy 08 line up.....I better start saving...

PVDing a PAM...suggestions, possible group PVD thread.

Hi Robert - welcome aboard. You'll find this place second to none for knowledge of Panerai watches and there's an incredible eye for detail among the collective. Kruzer's right - the best case to use is a Jimmy that's been re-milled and ideally a Jimmy CG .with OEM crown - but that's not an easy option unless you have the parts.. I think Rolli's got the best PVD right now - I have a Jack IWW PVD PAM 28 and it's superb in many ways - but I think Rolli's is the most satisfying - the one you really struggle to pick faults with out of the 2 I can't comment with any more knowledge than this - but think the belief is shared about Rolli's PVD. The trouble I have had trying to assemble parts for a PAM 27 as echoed by Robert - is trying to find a case to fit . a 63 for 2836 doesn't work and neither do any of the handwound options I have tried. The stem just doesn't line up correctly with the existing spacer ring. The Jimmy case I had milled for a 27 was no good to Ziggy as the case clamp slots are different for 2892 and this had to be abandoned....for now. The original 28 case is OK - and I can live with the tall bezel - but needs a new CG , OEM Crown - beadblasting and re-PVD plated by Rolli to make it outstanding. Add a SSSurfer Cyclops and a Lello DW and this piece should be near perfect. It's going to be a medium term project for me ...no quick wins but I much prefer having a brand new watch to work with :-) Simon -
Not good at all Jay. I have exited all of mine over the months with the exception of an ETA based 082 and stick purchasing parts only from Davidsen. I don't think there's the commitment to excellence there used to be on the finished watches.

You done real good Kostas and so did your wife ....to be fair she did all the hard work as I'm sure you already know!!!! Being a dad rocks, there's simply no better gift you'll ever receive... How's about a nice vintage leather "pappouse" with some GPF buckles to test your stitching skills to the max!!?? But give it a few weeks as you will be too tired to see straight !!! Best wishes Simon

Cheers Jay....wisdom and insight always appreciated. There's a seller on the bay (helenarou) who sells the "Marina Militare" homages ....I picked up a couple of steel cases that actually have short lugs , single screw and no strap dimple/delve. Compatible with all other std rep /gen parts , dial- crystal , caseback and CG - just a new tube and crown required. What's the exact distinction between pre-A OP6500 case and Vendome onwards cases - as Jimmyz Fu case is a 1:1 for B-F and some G series I understand? Cheers

I agree ...best yet IMHO and the 195 is not be sniffed at either ....we all know what a quick cape cod can do to DSN's PVD to achieve satisfying results. DLC or not $400 vs $22000 is a fair ratio for a rep.

Heads up if you want a PAM 28 - with ETA 2892 Soprod

I am no metalurgist and spent more time trying to make things explode during chemistry at school than pay attention.....but I believe this to be PVD on a high polish case. Maybe not the best PVD - but actually is as tough as old boots!!! Here's some quick and dirty pics which show how the colour is comparable to Rolli's PVD - but is far glossier due to the high polished case beneath. I took a soft brass brush and a cape cod to the new one and I am quite satisfied ( for now) with how it looks. New 28 - On Tan Strap Jack IWW PVD 28 - on black strap 009- Rolli PVD - sure fire winner in my book!!!! It's destined to become a 27 so the movement was the most important part for me. Out of the box I think this is very good - a DW and Cyclops are the mod priorities. The PVD ain't that bad IMHO... Anyway ..forget the PVD ...check out the engine!!!! -
Digging them D....24,27 and 63 are without doubt some of the finest examples of their kind... Let me guess.......3 or 4.... OWTZ...or OWBFZ..? All the best S

Flawless Kruzer - but I'd expect nothing less. Thanks for sharing the photos...you need to do this more often!!! I'd suggest a 205A is the missing link ...but I think you already have that in hand S

Both stunners Jay ...really hard to decide ...that Stingray is a real looker but the 750/40 (?) ...is very nicely pimped I have a love hate relationship with cars ....love them ...but hate what they cost!! Current ride is 540 M Sport - 2005 Had a 2003 330D M Sport which was by far my favourite ....the torque was awesome. Had Audi TT , S3, BMW 320is Coupe all within the last 7 years. My main issue is mileage / depreciation ...it's a no win siuation for me. In the last 12 years I have clocked up over 1,000,000 Kilometers...I kid you not S

The best test is right here Buy reps because you want more than one watch and want your money to go further ...or if you are like me you enjoy the "hobby" of searching and finding the ways to improve your watch closer to the gen. This is not to fool anybody - just for the enjoyment of trying to reach the end goal. I could have bought 3 or 4 gens with the money I have in put into my collection ....but where is the "fun" in that? I am not hung up on "status" , I have come across many people who believe a rep would degrade them in the eyes of their peers if ever caught out. How sad ..." the watch maketh not the man" Homages are cool without doubt ...but there's not a lot to aim for IMHO - as far as continual improvements and the fun of the hobby Each to their own

black small seconds on black dial......superb!! That crystal is in-freakin-visible!!!! Enjoy it ...looks great!!!

Well I refer you to the recent "Best 9B" post then Victoria........... That's wrong on many levels...
-
Check out DON's straps He has 24/24 black calf with sewn in pre-v PVD buckle ....the closest to OEM Pre-V in shape and size I have seen yet...PVD is good but a bit shiny as the buckle is polished beneath You cannot be mugged by his pricing either hxxp://rlx.homestead.com/17.html xx = tt but here's one extra x as a kiss for Victoria.......welcome back ma lady...:-)

One option is 112 Std Rep Sandwich dial Acetone Blackboard paint - or good matt black spray paint Totally remove all paint from the top dial and re-spray. A Ziggy or Vac lume to "re-fill" the indices will create a nice flat or recessed "Pre-V style" dial Or a DSN 201/202 dial and do the same ...as this fits a std rep case Or a Jimmyz Fu base dial ....if you can get one!! Best

You done good V.....love the colour!!! S
