I'm happy to report that this can be done. Custom-made 316 SS tube to fit Jimmy case, custom-made .9 OEM crown/1.2 stem combo. Works w/ Jimmy CG as well.

Reason 1) 2904 Reason 2) They'd sell the rep @ 30% of the cost of a used gen. Reason 3) They may figure that if we really love the Monaco so much (as I do mine) we'd forgo 2 "Super reps" this year and buy a used gen.

I can only get excited about TAGs when somebody posts pics of one on a hot chick's boobs, but this is a pretty accurate v.1 rep. The main dial flaw will be that the concentric rings on the dial and subs will not be a crisp on the rep. Since those concentric rings seem to be in fashion on sports watches, I hope the chinese figure them out. Price is key: If they want $400 bucks for this, my hat's off to anyone who spends that and whatever mods are possible for a rep of a watch that will be selling used for $1000 bucks a year from now.

All reps pass as gen to 99.9% of the worlds population. The other.01% of the population you're not fooling even if you think you are. People try to pass reps as gens to my watchsmith, of all people, and guess what? He plays along. Why risk embarrassing a paying customer? See all of the I-fooled-the-AD posts in this thread? I'd bet any of my reps that more than half of the AD foolers...weren't.

Possible new Lange rep - big date, subdials at 4 and 7?
archibald replied to cornerstone's topic in General Discussion
There has always been a part of the chinese rep industry perfectly willing for whatever reason to go through the trouble of making a half-assed reps of an unreppable watches when there are dozens of watches they could have done more accurately, and probably less expensively. My guess is that the (probably) correct assumption that in the minds of many there is very little difference between a real Lange and the rep. -
Intersting article about reps in German Chronus mag
archibald replied to FxrAndy's topic in The Breitling Area
The main point should have been: "Rep collecotors will only need a DW, OEM hands, and a strap to make buying the gen a complete waste of money." -
Sadly, I believe the subdial spacing would be off on a rep of that watch since the rep movement is based on the 7750, and the gen is 2894.

As pointed out earlier, sure Panerai is a gay watch. It's a fashionable watch, and since very generally speaking, gay men tend to dress better than us straight men it's not surprising that somebody noticed more than one gay man wearing a PAM and then wrote that it's a "gay" watch. What's hilarious is the "How dare you call my 44mm bad boys 'gay.' I wear them on military style rubber chaps straps for God's sake." responses. Don't worry guys, even if you find yourself hanging out with male Republican members of congress out at some rest area mens room, it's not your watch making you gay. But just to be sure, I'm sending my entire Pam and Muller collection--especially my muller collection--to be cured.

PAM268 or PAM235 new 10days + GMT movement

0% chance of them repping the functions. 80% chance of them making a half-assed attempt at the bridges. -
Looking for a genuine painted 112 dial
archibald replied to ravishingrick's topic in The Panerai Area
Yeah, but these days I think he occasionally parts out watches as opposed to sources parts. It's interesting that he had a 118 dial 6 months ago--he sold a 118 case-set on ebay two months later and "sourced" a handwind movment for a (rich) aquaintance of mine a couple weeks after that. Wonder where the hands are... BTW, V, if you can "point me in right direction" of some OEM parts, I have a blank check in front of me! -
Both are very interesting reads Thanks!! The Cliff's Notes version is that the the difference in accuracy and reliability between the two movements is minimal as long as both are properly serviced and adjusted, with a slight edge to the 2892 in terms of long term reliability. The most interesting point to me was that in the real world 2892's tend to funtion better because they tend to be in better watches and thus be better lubed, adjusted and used along with better components, but that intrinsically it's not a significantly better-functioning movement than the 2824.

Assuming the crown or stem can be modified to make an OEM crown work w/ the handwind movement, it looks like the tube will be the next hurdle if anyone would like to use the crown w/ a Jimmy case. The hole in the case is 3.25mm and the crown needs a tube with an inside diameter of 2.3mm-2.5mm. Of course, the length of the tube can be customized. My own search of the usual places has come up w/ no ready made solutions. Since I have this exact combo of crown and case in hand at the moment I thought I would submit the dilemma to our RWG brain trust for ponderance.

Not trying to pile on;just doing some math. I'd be much more likely to pay $1850 for a solid 18k piece, which even at today's gold prices would provide plenty of profit, than $800 for an electroplated, asia 7750 powered, decent but not amazing rep. After all, if the price of the watch were where it should be, I certainly wouldn't ming investing an a little gold and storing it on my wrist.

http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tre...61796&rid=0 Buyers getting nervous "Makes me headache" says the seller. Aren't the materials supposed to be engraved between the lugs? Or not on the 41mm version? Movement looks good, but... Do I have to contact my new pen pal, Senor Biver, yet again?

Canal Street - shitty Watches? I dont think so!
archibald replied to slay's topic in General Discussion
I think the high end reps are a fairly e thing in NY, and for years the "rumors" were in fact....fact. Adam used to resell Canal St. reps on RWG and spent many hours searching for reps worth selling in direct competition w/ the asia-based dealers. He was able to source asian movement versions of some of the better reps of the time, but rarely or never any ETA powered pieces. If ETA powered reps were available on canal street at the time (2004 & 2005) I bet he would have been selling them. It comes as no surprise to me that you can get decent reps on NYC--in fact, it's probably easier to smuggle fewer high end reps than lots of cheap ones. -
Cartier Santos 100 dial project help!
archibald replied to rocket754's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Having done a few pojects that involved printing--you'll save yourself headches AND money if you insist on prototypes of every change--no "we'll fix this on the production version" especially if these are going to be produced in China. -
I'm holding out for a decent center tourby rep....Out oif all the big name brands I believe only blancpain and maybe chronoswiss use a carosel (or whatever it's called) tourby at the moment, and they're at 12:00.

Michael Bay's watch in this picture, which watch is it?
archibald replied to HollyW00d's topic in General Discussion
LOL! What, do you work at the watch store Micheal Bay shops at? Or you just have his watch collection catalogued in the ol' eighth-grade-movie-watching noggin, perhaps thanks to regular visits to shootfortheedit.com? BTW, if my post got your (Shoot for the Edit TM) panties in a knot, for God's sake don't read the New Yorker's review which was so funny even us nonpulsed movie fans got briefly above flatline. And yes, I did think The Rock and Bad Boys were one small step above FOX TV and one giant leap below Titanic, which now that I think about it, was an Aaron Spelling story set on a big, sinking boat. -
Fit and finish wise, the best out of the box rep. Ever. Period. We need to solve the seconds hand problem (please see this thread), but that should be easy.

2836-2 w/o seconds hand equivalent?
archibald replied to archibald's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Yeah, I saw that....Consensus in that thread is 2824, TTK advertises as 2836. Either way it would be great to find a drop in, n0-seconds-hand replacement. -
Franck Muller King conquistador square face
archibald replied to jimbo's topic in General Discussion
Ari notwithstanding, the problems w/ the square case are: 1) Muller makers most of Cortez Coinquistadors in precious metals. The overwhelming majority of stainless pieces are made w/ the tonneau case. Considering how folks feel about plated watches, I bet most would opt for the more "believable" material. 2)They made a rep cortez conquistador, non chrono, in the standard size that was just as accurate as the tonneau version. The tonneau versions sold out. The Cortez versions didn't, probably because most people identify Muller closely w/ their rectangualr Curvex cases. 3)Most people who buy this watch will want to upgrade w/ gen dials. The tonnuau case dials are far easier to source--I have OEM dials for both versions so I'm good to go, but sourcing the square dials to go w/ stainless cases will be nearly impossible. Believe me, I'll buy either verson even though I'm not a fan of the TV show. I just think we have a better chance of getting this and addtional Mullers made if they choose the model that will sell the most. -
Beautiful!

Michael Bay's watch in this picture, which watch is it?
archibald replied to HollyW00d's topic in General Discussion
That's an interesting link. Judging from his movies, I thought Micheal Bay was in, like, eighth grade... I don't know what the watch is, though. Maybe a Timex that transforms into an AP End of Days at the push of a button?
