Hamilton Khaki Air Chrono Quartz T'J.
Cheers.
Dang, that was quick
Many thanks

This is the only pic I have, and I know it's not the clearest... I believe the watch has a PVD case and bracelet, and is most likely a quartz chronograph, but can anyone else shed any light on it?
Thanks in advance

Well Vly, you must try it for sure.
Actually, these 36 wears much better than 45 for sure.
We've seen ridiculously large watches out there and in the end how many are wearable, every day, and in every occasion?
None
The only one I trully see as a daily wear is the PO.
So, having a lot of 40 MM Rolex and other brands wear time, I can state the following:
1. 36 is just fine (as long as you don't have Hulk wrists of course
It's very readable, confortable and not ridiculous at all with sportswear or a suit.
2. Going back to my Submariners makes me feel like wearing "a big tool watch"
3. Elegance will never accomodate with "monsters"
Buy a rep ...wear it and then you'll see if you are ready for a gen
As another example, this one is very cool too (only missing a date!):
Dates only need changing
No-dates are the best for 'no-frills/no-attention-needed' simplicity, they just tell the time, day after day

TeeJay, here is the link to the review Spirit did of a Turn-O-Graph rep a while back. He also pointed out that I had the wrong clasp on the band and confirmed this one (above) was the correct clasp.

Fantastic, thanks for the link
Good to see that you were able to put the clasp to use as well

I wouldn't personally consider it as a dress watch, because it has the chronograph. I think it's a very nice watch, and would probably look good with a suit, or with jeans and a T-Shirt, but personally, I feel a dress watch should be just a dial and hands (maybe day/date) but ideally, as simple as possible
Welcome to the party

Spirit (RWI) gave me a link to a Turn-O-Graph review he did a while back and it had some of the history about being given to fighter pilots in the early fifties and was the first Rolex with rotatable bezel.
Awesome, do you have the link to hand? I have to admit, I'm quite keen to take up Demsey's challenge
I needed to get a Turn-O-Graph as a case donor for a watch I'm planning on building for my godson
Awesome that I'll be able to put the dial to use in another project

Heh, good quote!
I though it was pretty fitting, given how the hobby can have that effect on people

The red date wheel makes me think it might look good in a Red Submariner!
Dang, I'm already thinking about cannibalizing it!

I did not know that, but it would make sense. Not a 'dive watch' per se`, but 'commando' a` la MilSub. If you read some of the text to the old Rolex magazine adds (dated well beyond this piece when it was fashioned after the DateJust) the strategy was to appeal to those who wanted an executive watch but also one at the ready, just in case 'adventure called'. It had a pretty decent depth range.
Wouldn't ever imagine Bond wearing one, perhaps 'Q'. Or not.
I love that.
This is where I got the info from
From what I read, it sounds more like it was given as an award, rather than regular issue

Thanks lani and TeeJay!
@lani: I am not trying to replace a mineral with an acrylic, but change a mineral with another mineral, but different profile. I think that the mineral crystal fits on the inside of the case, from the look of it.
@TeeJay: Thanks, but I am worried that if I push the old one out, I won't be able to fit a new one in
Any watchsmiths out there?
As mentioned, as long as the diameters are close, if you use epoxy, you should get a secure fit
Of course, if the worst comes to the worst, you can always re-install the original crystal

Yeah, that was a good call. The red seconds hand was a boasted 'feature' from Rolex. The rep should have that. I was kicking around my own archive and am thinking the 'roulette' date wheel may have been a replica 'fantasy' accoutrement. Just too much infos in these past years to keep it all straight.
However, I did find a pic of the original, Turn-O-Graph circa 1954 (?) pre-dating the Sub. Somewhere along the line they decided to leave the more 'sport' branch for the more executive 'DateJust' profile. Still, cool watch.....this awta get all those 'vintage Rolex Rep' guys' tongues wagging. C'mon T'J, be the first one on your block!
I'm sure I've read that the Turn-O-Graph was a US military-issued watch, and also refered to as a 'Thunderbird'... I think a vintage rep might be quite tricky to recreate, but, It might be possible to combine a modern dial with Sub markers to come up with a modern homage

Not bad indeed, that's looking good
-
Fantastic, that's a really classy piece
-
None too shabby, my friend
Not that I'd want to risk buying from Silix myself, but it's nice to see a Turn-O-Graph featured on the forum, I can't recall seeing one exhibited before

I wouldn't like to say how easily the new crystal would fit, but, it could probably be epoxied into place
Removing the sapphire crystal, should just be a case of pushing it out from the back while the movement is de-cased
Another alternative, would be to remove the cyclops and retain the main part of the crystal, although of course, I realize that it's a different crystal profile

Cheers for the replys guys, I emailed Josh last night regarding the SOSF he lists which has the mineral crystal and a 21j movement. Almost a $160 difference between this one and the sosf with the copy eta movement and double AR crystal. But he said these were the only differences.
Will the different crystal make a huge difference? Or will it not be too noticable to the untrained eye.
I'm also going to research a bit more about the movement as I don't want one with 6months later after daily wear will crap out on me.
The untrained eye, (aka the general public) doesn't have a clue, so don't worry yourself about getting called out over such details, which only other watch enthusiasts can pick up on. None of your choices have 'Rolex' on the dial, so are not going to arouse the suspicion of the casual observer (as in the minds of the untrained, Rolex=Fake [as it is well known that Rolex watches are often faked, so there is always the potential for something saying 'Rolex' to be something other than 'real']) Of your choices, and if you're looking for something with 'everyday' wear potential, I'd say go for the 42mm Planet Ocean

As we've discussed, it's not a watch I'm hugely impressed with (in terms of what it is) but you've got yourself a fine example of it, there, bro, wear it well
-
except to say that it required calling in a favor
An interesting outcome for sure, but thanks for sharing the secret
