  1. Thanks TJ! Good call! I am going to an AD on Tuesday

No problem :) I first noticed the phenomenon when I tried on a 45mm Planet Ocean then a 2254.50, which, when worn immediately after the PO, looked tiny... About a year ago, I took off my 127, then put on my 45mm PO. The PO looked tiny... Going from a Sub to a DJ, the DJ looks tiny, and so on and so forth  But, put a DJ on 'clean', or, if worn after a Sub, after a while, the eye adjusts and the watch no longer appears to be 'small', and is 'visually accepted' for being the size it is :)

  2. Thanks for the feedback, guys  Indeed, it was definitely quartz, as it had a slim digital display at the bottom of the dial. (Not easy to see in the photo posted, but the 5, 6 and 7 markers are in a straight line, rather than following the curve of the case. Might sound silly, but it was a watch I always liked the look of in the catalogue (but never bought) and thought it would still make a nice addition to my collection, being as it's still a diver's-style watch :)

  3. Excellent points from both you guys! Thanks for the input! A DJ is a new direction for me, and I have been a little hesitant about them as I am used to 40mm+ sized watches. However, there is just something very stunning and elegant about the DJ that I just can't avoid. A franken would be sweet, but I think that a budget version to start would be the way to go. Then again, I am the sort of person who likes to go all out the first time. I think I may just go to an AD and try one on for size and see how I feel about it. That would be a good staring point for me I think!

If you're going to an AD, I would suggest not wearing a watch for an hour or so before your visit. Not to avoid the issue of taking a rep to an AD, but to let your eye 'adjust', so you view the DJ with 'a clean visual palette', rather than a mental comparison to a larger watch. Best of luck with your hunt :good:

  4. hi teejay,

no its not pvd'd ..thats just my poor photography skills...let me know when you need a sticker...then we will have the only two sa NAVELATE milsubs in existence :thumbsupsmileyanim:

It wasn't so much an issue with your photography, just that I knew that that SA Milsub was PVDd, and I couldn't quite tell from the photos :)

Many thanks about the sticker, that would be awesome :good::drinks:

  5. I think you may be right. Or, at least, that may have been part of their reasoning. :good:

I think the thing that makes me consider that, is I can think of better aspects of the dial to highlight via AR than the datewheel  I think it makes more sense for it to be considered as an anti-counterfeiting measure, simply because many might not notice the AR beneath the cyclops (or be able to easily replicate it if they could) :)

  6. To date, I have yet to get the official word on why Rolex chose to AR only the cyclops (which, considering that many of the watchmakers in their own service network are totally oblivious to the existence of ANY AR on ANY Rolex watch, is probably another of Rolex's closely guarded marketing secrets), but I am beginning to think they did it solely for aesthetic reasons (having that 'black hole' of a cyclops is kind of cool - at least, it makes for more compelling pics).

I'm wondering if it might be as a subtle anti-counterfeiting device, in so much as it's easy enough to get a whole crystal ARd, but that small section, might be harder to achieve... It definitely makes for some interesting pics, but personally, I'm not too keen, as I think it only highlights that the rest of the crystal isn't ARd, so making the remainder of the dial appear slightly 'obscured' in comparison... That said, if Rolex have started to delve into AR technology, perhaps they'll start putting it out as a fully crystal application on other watches :victory:

  7. I'm not sure if this watch is even available anymore, but I wondered if anyone might know what it was?

As far as I can remember, it had an analogue and digital display and was black resin (although gun metal and gun metal and gold variants were also available)

I doubt it was a particularly expensive watch, but, if anyone might be able to identify it, it would be awesome :)

  8. TeeJay, yer scarin' me just a tad, Bro! :g:

I'm planning on putting the dial/movement from the en route 1655 into this:

    DSCN2442.jpg

I might keep the 1655 in stock configuration, depending on how much I like it when it arrives. At the moment, I'm thinking the GMT function would be more useful than the AM/PM indicator, and I do miss wearing the low-profile case... I'll have to see how it looks when it arrives and I'll need to de-case the movement anyway to vintagize the dial, so it won't take a few moments to test-fit it in the low-profile case :)

  9. Thanks, TeeJay,I kinda like it but it seems a bit extreme to hack it up and make it a donor! Did you get your 1655 yet?

I'm still waiting on the 1655, as the postal service is going through a few strikes at the moment...

All I'd be doing with regards a Tudor project, would be to remove the bezel insert, and then swap in the Tudor dial and bracelet, no hacking about, and probably only mild aging :)

  10. Nothing other than enlarging the lug holes and fitting the proper spring bars - if their current placement will allow it...

Sounds like a plan :good: The coke variant of the GMT is definitely one of my favorite Rolex watches (something warped planned from me coming soon ;) )
