  1. I personally think that you can have a grail, find it after a long search, then rest on your laurels. Or maybe I just want to believe.

What irks me is how frequently the term gets tossed around to mean any watch you might want at any given time: "That Liquid Metal Planet Ocean is my grail! So I placed a deposit at the AD." There's got to be more effort to it than that, and working hard for de money shouldn't count. Chuck Maddox (RIP) searched far and wide over a period of years to find his Grail Speedmaster, and spun a ripping good yarn after doing so. I don't expect "Le Morte d'Arthur", but there ought to be some semblance of a quest.

Doesn't have to be genuine either. freddy's 6542 is an excellent example of a grail, even if "it's only a model." :)

Re the Pepsi Indy watch: I wish it were mine, but sadly it ain't. It has a real "This is a photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore" quality to it!

(For you kids out there, Last Crusade was famously associated with a Diet Coke commercial.)

PeteM: I think one Radiomir would've been heavy enough!

I know what you mean, that's why I don't consider the 7032 a grail watch for me. I like it, but the Heritage has filled that void enough that I'm no longer bothered if I get a 7032, so to me, that's a sure sign that it wasn't a grail watch

  2. never gets worn though, just one of those builds you think you want but when it is done you dont, i think the almost total lack of lume from the tritium puts me off

I can't wait to get mine built, but I suspect that I'll find the same thing after the build

  3. It seems this chap's brother-in-law visited Thailand and returned with nice Rolex Daytona for him. It would've been a grand gesture indeed, had it been real - but it wasn't. So, this forum member did what any reasonable WIS would do - he smashed the sh*t out of it with a hammer.

:nono: If my brother in law did that with a watch I'd bought for him, I would kick his ass :aggressive:

  4. My main grails are the 6200 and the transitional 16800:

A recent addition to the list, is the DR 1665, which has become something of an obsession to research, and a project I am well and truly gnashing at the bit to begin...

As much as I love the 7032, I can't consider it a grail watch, because since acquiring my Heritage, I'm not as concerned about if I can add a 7032 to my collection... If it can be so easily substituted, it's not a grail in my book :whistling: Other honorable mentions, are three favorites which do not quite have 'grail status' for me, as I am not desperate to acquire or build them, but which I still really like: the Exotic Daytona, the Snowflake Submariner, and Oliver Shepard's custom 1655 :)

  5. Doctorwho

    Torchwood

    Is this true

Yes, Torchwood was originally an anagram of Doctor Who used when the new stuff with Christopher Eccleston was being produced, so nosy interns wouldn't realize the tapes contained the rushes for Doctor Who :)

Huge who fan, can't get into torchwood. But if there is watch porn now....

Wouldn't go so far as to say 'watch porn', but John Barrowman is a known collector of Rolex watches, so it's worth seeing what he's wearing.

In the first seasons of Torchwood, he wore a black-dialled DateJust (or possibly AirKing Date) on an aftermarket strap.

I've always suspected this was Barrowman's own watch, rather than from the costume department, as I have seen him wearing several DateJusts on various shows (usually on bracelets though) More recently (last 24 months or so) he's been seen wearing this GMTIIc quite a bit...
