  1. Yes i know, the watch was sold as advertised then is all i was asking,i got the feeling i was being misled. I know its not a vintage Newman. But it came across as any reference to newman on this watch is bs and as the guy i bought it from i consider a friend, that annoyed me.

So it is a newman dial offcially,as advertised, but just for marketing purposes,by Rolex.

I vaguely remember reading a few years back that Newman was awarded with a gold Daytona fairly recently (I forget what for) and I think he immediately auctioned it for charity. I may be wrong, but I believe that may be the model you've bought. As for the highlighted bit, he may not have known the ins and outs and simply believed what he'd been told, so possibly an honest mistake. Equally, he could just be a buddy-fucker that thought he could get more cash from you by mentioning Newman's name... Unless this is someone you know on a personal level, ie beers, BBQs, godfather to their kids etc, I'd take it as a lesson in being more discerning about who you consider a friend... Sales staff aren't friends to anyone, and will say anything to part the mark from their money... :bangin:

Other than that, awesome piece :good::drinks:

  2. The thing that has played on my mind through all this is 'What about the homeless?'

These are people the authorities have no records of, people that would sleep in places like subways and underground carparks and because of this they are people that can disappear without being added to the death toll.

    Ken

Ironically, they are actually probably the best emotionally equipped to deal with a situation like this... Chances are they have no family, property or possessions to protect, so no reason to not comply with any evac protocols, and while folks used to living in homes may find FEMA shelters spartan and crude, to a homeless person, it's a roof, a bed and access to food and medicines they wouldn't normally have, so a considerable upgrade in their conditions :victory: Fingers crossed for all those souls in Sandy's way :)

  3. It is highly likely it paid off to be a prepper in the NY area... People laugh at them, but now they are in their bunkers with power & food.

My in laws laughed when I bought 10 10ltr water containers back in the summer and filled them. A few weeks later, there was a hosepipe ban, and they stopped laughing... They thought I was wasting my money when I bought an LED ring lamp to install above the bedroom door... When the power went out, I went about my business... B)

  4. A friend has been posting updates from NY on fb, and it doesn't look pretty... Full moon for a high tide, a little light HAARP music for encouragement, I guess they needed to fill the concentration camps er I mean FEMA camps somehow... :bangin: Break out those survival skills and stay safe, amigos :good::drinks:

  5. Hey bro, thanks for dropping by. :)

Yes name dropping are either for those who cannot use their own, or think too much of their own. I was, truthfully, a small fish swimming among the bigger ones at the event, and engaging in social politics can be very boring.

I think you would have done better than me in such circumstances. I'll have liked to watch you take him to school :D

Have to admit, I don't think I'd've let him just walk away without qualifying precisely why he thought the watch was a fake, although I'd've tried not to tread on his toes too much at his own party, maybe just asked his wife or barely-legal daughters if they wanted any free tattoos :whistling:;) I took my wife's surname (which sounds like Old Money) when we got married, and brush up nicely for swanky dos :tu:

  6. I don't baby any of my watches. While I might have watches for particular activities, I treat them all with equal indifference while doing so  While I would not intentionally wear my DJ while heading out on a camping trip (I would choose my Heritage on webbing strap) if I was to suddenly find myself in a survival situation while wearing the DJ, I would not immediately remove the watch, wrap it in a sock, and then carry it around like a baby bird  I would do whatever I needed to do, and if it took a few knocks and picked up a few dings along the way, then so be it :pardon: I've mentioned before that when I was younger, I never felt like a watch was 'mine', until it had picked up its first major ding/scratch which took it away from Factory Mint. Until then, it was simply a new watch which I owned. Once it picked up said ding/scratch, it was my watch :victory::good::drinks:

  7. then why dont you go and found your own brand from scratch, then sell it for rep prices, so easy =)

Because someone likes wearing nice watches, you think they should start their own watch brand?? :bangin: I want to wear a nice watch, it doesn't have to be my own brandname

dont get me wrong im not a rep hater, i usually dont give a [censored] what other guy wears a fake or not as long as its a nice watch, but one shouldnt fool himself and glorify the reps, giving them undeserved value.

Who is to say that they are fooling themself?? I'm sure everyone knows that they're wearing reps rather than gens, so unless they are really lying to themselves and have somehow fooled themselves into believing that it's a gen, no one is fooling themself at all  What are you saying is 'undeserved value'? If a woman buys her husband a rep as a birthday present, are you saying the watch has no value? In terms of cash value, then of course it's not going to be 'worth' as much as its gen counterpart, but in terms of sentimental value, it would be priceless... :pardon:

  8. I think gen owners can appreciate the artistic skills in making a great rep. A few years ago on Ferrari Chat, one of the most popular threads was a project by a guy who took a 308, and was installing a 400i V12 engine in it, and modding it to look like a 288 GTO. Everyone loved it. Mostly due to the craftmanship, and the obvious passion for Ferraris the builder had.

Equally on a Parker Fly (guitar) forum, I read a thread where a young eastern european guy who could not afford a Parker guitar was converting a cheap telecaster into a replica Parker. No one was offended as he was doing amazing work on a budget.

On car forums, there is lots of scorn for an MR2 made to look like a Ferrari, and on guitar forums, there would be a tonne of scorn for someone who puts a Fender logo on a Squire guitar, but I think all enthusiasts appreciate craftmanship

There's a difference between gen owners, and gen snobs... The majority of owners probably would appreciate the building of a rep, as long as it didn't pose a threat to their personal self-image... On the gen watch forums, Freddy's Pan Am 6542 is considered an abomination and an attempt to create a false image, rather than appreciating the skill and craftsmanship which went into building it... :pardon:

  9. RG disgusts me.

Pathetic web interface, retarded moderators with sickening attitude, and it's full of scammers.

You're better off here trust me. RWG is the best!

RG and everyone on it can go fuck themselves for all I care. Two bit piece of shit forum that it is...

  10. I don't think I've ever seen a review of anyone having purchased that range, and rarely see any photos of them posted, which is probably why you've found nothing... If that's the one you want to buy, then buy it. I doubt you'll have anything to worry about, as it'll be made to the same standards as everything else Josh sells :good::drinks:
