  1. Thanks for the comments, gents, I quite agree that it's not really a Ferrari, because it was not made by said company, yet equally, despite the brandings, it's not really a replica or reproduction, because it is a reinterpretation of the original car... To make it more interesting, if the car didn't have the Ferrari badges, and was just labelled GWA, would people then feel it was an homage to Ferrari, or would they feel it was more a case of like with Alpha watches, a company who simply put their own logo on another company's designs? Of course, if anyone was to see it, they would likely just say "Did you see that Ferrari over there?"

LOVE it... do you have more pics?

Not personally, but there're more photos on the linked article :)

It may not be a real Ferrari but that is one very cool looking car...thanks for posting bro :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I thought you'd like it, bro :drinks:

  2. Just thought I'd put this topic here as it is essentially a discussion about copying, homage, replication and branding. I just saw links to this car online, and thought "WOW!!!!" I absolutely love how it retains the original styling, but with a modern twist, much like the Tudor Heritage being an update of the 7032 Monte Carlo, but, as it was built by GWA, is it really a Ferrari, or just a car with some Ferrari badges slapped on in the right places? What do y'all think of it, and the issue and how it fits in with out own hobby?

  3. Nice bro

Thanks, bro :drinks: It wasn't something I'd planned to do when I woke up today, but I was about to get some lunch, and just thought 'Why not...' so set everything up, and must say, I'm pretty pleased with the result :D Can't wait till there's more work done on the leg though, as I think it's going to blend in nicely with everything overall :whistling:

  4. I dont think anyone In this thread stays up late at night hoping this guy gets raped. But If he does,I dont see anyone shedding any tears for this gentleman neither. Rape is a cold hard fact about prision, reguardles of someones personal feelings on the subject. With all do respect Pug,I dont see the connection with the "turning womens prisions Into revenue and pimp out the ones that hit there kids". Sometimes things look a little different when It hits closer to home. Example...lets say that this was your son who was beaten. Lets also say that your son was seriously hurt. Would you still feel the thought/wish of his rape uncivilised? If so you are a better man than myself. Maybe your son could have suffered some kind of brain damage, maybe permanant. Situations like this are well documented, comas are not uncommon. This grown man who happened to be a father, brutaly attacked this 16 year old kid, with little provacation. If you look at the video again you can see this pos doing his best to hurt this kid. I say "he deserves whatever he gets". If not anything else,a really really really good ass whooping. So maybe...just maybe... he will think twice before puting his hands on someone else's child...God forbid his own.

    :whistling:

    ;)

  5. Ya..a tanish strap would set the cali off nicely me thinks.smile.gif

Yeah, tan straps definitely seem to have the best look for the cali (IMHO), however, I'm thinking about asking the strap maker who will be doing the wrist-strap for my iPod project, if they could sew on a new strap which would match the other project :) Haven't quite decided yet :D

  6. 1.Most people wear replica watches because they like the design of it, and find the price of the genuine version unjustified or beyond their reach.

    2. They do not care if someone else likes the watch or finds it fake looking. Serious collectors of replica watches take more pride in their collection than anyone else anyway, and are their own best judge.

    3. An aesthically pleasing and accurate looking replica is important to most of us, not because we want to fool anyone else, but because we want to look and feel good everytime we check the time.

    4. Most people we meet cannot give two hoots about whether the watch we wear are real, fake, cost $50 or $10,000,000. The watch forms part of the visual impression people form about us superficially in most cases.

    5. In my experience, sales staff who work at watch boutiques care more about what you wish to buy, than the watch you wear to the shop.

    6. You will hear "nice watch" more than anything else each time you wear your favorite replica out. Hey, if you find it good-looking, chances are, someone else would too.

    7. A quality replica watch, if properly cared for, would function well and serve you faithfully for many years.

    8. Genuine watches are not always problem free. I have a broken genuine omega constellation one genuine cartier that refuses to move sitting in my drawer. I would have to concede that genuine watches are generally more reliable, though the more high-end replicas are often underrated in terms of accuracy and precision too..

    9. The person that cares most about the accuracy of a replica watch, is the wearer himself/herself.

    10. The worth of any watch, genuine or replica, is determined by the wearer and the wearer alone. A watch with $50 monetary market value may be priceless to someone in terms of sentimental worth.

Awesome post, and excellent points of view, I certainly agree with them :) If I like the look of a [rep] watch, I'll wear it, regardless of how accurate it actually is to the original :)

  7. Being raped isn't part of the state imposed sentence.

Sorry, I don't find that sort of comment civilised in any way. You seriously want convicted prisoners to be part of he justice system?!? You condone rape as a form of justice?

Nope, not in my name, not in the name of justice.

Sheesh, I know watch forums tend towards the right-wing blood and glory, but what you're wishing for is a penal system that allows prisoners to forcibly rape other prisoners. Can the guards take part? How about members of the public? Hey, how about turning womens' prisons into revenue makers and pimp out the ones that hit their kids? Hey, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Sorry, but I don't really care if you find it civilized or not, I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are yours, and, going by the majority opinion, it would appear that most of the posters who have commented here feel the guy deserves raping. As for the rest of your assumptions on what I condone and am wishing for, that is all they are, assumptions... Do I think prison rape should be allowed? No. Am I surprised that dominance-based behavioral rapes occur in prison (and other institutions)? Again, no. Equally, I have little sympathy for people who do get raped in prison, because had they not done something worthy of being sentenced, they would not be in that situation for said rape to occur... If the judicial system was to get down to the 'eye for an eye' punishments outlined in the Bible, then rape would be the prescribed punishments for rapists...

  8. OP - The best advise I can give is select a Gen watch that you wish to replicate in look and age: and work to that template. Enjoy yourself - once you start, its hard to stop!

Here you go Nanuq, here is some inspiration for your next 1680 project........perhaps the Gen owner did not know this was an automatic movement :whistling:

  9. The pearl looks OK to me. I have an Ofrie pearl that I put on a PMW insert. The PT pearl looks similar but in aged form. Is there something I am missing?

I heard that the PT dials especially # 2, 3 and 4 are pretty good aside from the very yellow markers. I am hoping that Pb has a way to lighten them up a bit so they look creamy rather than bright sun yellow.

Pb has already mentioned to me about installing a new crystal so I assume he is aware of what it takes to make it fit. (in fact he does since he said he has already modded quite a few PT 1665 watches already)

So here is my list so far:

    New crown and tube

    New crystal assume Clarke

Ensure springbar ends POP from lug holes

    CG shaved down

Dial markers lightened if possible or dial changed out

    Movement serviced

Rebrush the lugs to smooth out finish.

    Thats it?

If you're having that much done, you clearly want the watch to 'look real', so I would strongly suggest reconsidering your decision about not wanting to age the watch. I'm not suggesting you need to beat the [censored] out of it, but none of those other mods are worth doing if it is still going to look like a 'brand new watch' which should be +30 years old :whistling: Best of luck with the project though, really looking forward to seeing the results :good::drinks:

  10. Im also In the gold camp T. Whatever you decide, hope you have fun with It,thats what it's all about Imho. Keep us posted bro. :drinks:

    I've decided I'm definitely:

    - Keeping it clean, no artificial aging of dial or case.

    - 100% homage with no branding marks anywhere on it (for wearing to countries who are less than rep-friendly :whistling: )

    - Cali dial

    - 127 gold hands (will leave me with a spare second sweep hand, but also means larger hands for better visibility :victory: )

    - New strap. Possibly tan, but more likely matching leather to my planned wrist-strap project :good:

Once the PPI clears, I'll be able to get to work :drinks:

  11. I recently bought an OEM Assolutamente strap and as a result, this watch has seen more wrist time in the past week than it did in my first four months of ownership. I absolutely (ugh) love this strap, and that's not just the money talking. It cost me more than any strap I've ever owned, but I fell in love with these strips of leather the first time I saw a press shot of a PAM 386. (I missed seeing it on last year's Radiomir 339.) It looks even better in the flesh (dead calf flesh) than it does in the pictures, and it smells mighty tasty, too!

Mapman57 suggested I make a shoot out of it, and he's absolutely (no, stop) ASSOLUTAMENTE right! Gentlemen, behold:

    :elvis:

Looks like it was worth every penny, M :drinks:

  12. I absolutely love the Cali dial! I just fear that a 47mm watch is just a tad bit too big for me.

The Rolex Datejust Cali dial could be cool :D

    Click Me

That is very tasty, I wish I had the spare cash to bid on it :good:

These are actually blue but in the pic they look black, so that gives you that frame of reference.

    35171890.jpg

Ahh, that's interesting, maybe some of the photos I saw online were indeed of blued hands, which simply appeared black due to the lighting conditions of the photo :) Thanks for sharing :good::drinks:

  13. oh thats not my pic. its just so beautiful that i stare at it once in a while. perfect strap combo.

oh and dial ... rolexfinder just completed a 2 year project to produce the finest cali dial .. theres a thread here somewhere on it.

Ahh, cool :) I'm considering a new tan strap as well for my build, as I'm not over keen on the rivets through this one's stock 'pilot-style' strap. Of course, I can't complain about the quality, and as an unexpected gift, I'm more than grateful, I'm just thinking that if I'm going to make it over, I might as well go the whole nine yards and change everything so it's 100% custom as I want it :) I'll have to look for that thread in the morning, it's getting a bit early/late here at the mo, but thanks for the reference, I'll see what I can find :good::drinks:

  14. I prefer gold as well .. great watch.

    post-22602-0-17706700-1315612546.jpg

It took me a while to warm up to them initially, but I really love the Cali aesthetic :) The blue hands do look nice, I wouldn't ever take that away from the Classic Look, I'm just feeling the gold hands a little more for my own take on it :)

    [Edit to add]

That pic has convinced me to keep the build 'clean', rather than any artificial aging :drinks:

PS Dial and hands from Helena?

  15. I personally like gold hands on a Cali dial:

    ALL-group-A1large.jpg

I have a better pic but somehow photobucket and I won't cooperate today.....

Thanks for the pic, seeing those examples, I think the gold definitely lends itself to the vintage look, and from my time with a 127, I remember that the gold hands were easily visible, so I think I'll go with that combination (not decided yet on if I might age the watch, or just keep it clean) :drinks:
