  1. I agree but I'm still contemplating the degree of 'wear' I would like to give it ^_^ I think I will start gently with smoothing things up and see how far I can take it

I'd suggest some scuffing on the underside of the bracelet at the edges of the wrist and the clasp to simulate wear, and maybe the occasional ding on the case wouldn't look out of place :good::drinks:

  2. Of course we're ALL insane...Spending money to buy obsolete technology that only serves to inform us of info available universally for virtually nothing!!!

It's a matter of degrees, and how skilled one is at self delusion ....in my case....I have always funded my purchases by selling other stuff that I convinced my self to buy earlier, such as other watches, cameras, or other such junk...

Just yesterday, I saw a Panerai rep offered for sale on one of the boards for $6800.00.......NOW.....THAT'S CRAZY!!!!!! :bangin: :bangin:

Was it being sold as gen or some kind of über modded?

  3. It's never really occured to me. I figure that collecting anything costs money, and I either have enough for a piece, or I don't (mostly the latter :bangin: ) Even though I'm still building my collection, I'm trying to keep it reasonable: I stick to one brand which I like, and am trying to use the discipline of a daily beater, and others to then alternate to depending on situation. That allows each watch to have it's day, rather than just gathering dust as a paperweight due to not being able to take off a beater :) I figure that way, I'm not simply buying for the sake of buying (well, not too much :pardon: )

  4. Thanks TeeJay. Sounds like a bit of a challenge but unfortunately they cant be left as is. This is going to be interesting...

No worries, it's more of a challenge to descrbe the procedure than it actually is to carry out :good::drinks: But as you say, it can't be left as is, and with the dial feet in the wrong position for your movement, they're no good to man nor beast, so no need to feel bad about snapping them off :D

  5. To straighten the dial, simply de-case the movement and remove the dial from the movement, then replace the crown stem in the movement. Clip or snap off the dial feet, then use a few 4mmx4mm squares of double sided tape to fix the dial to the movement, lining up the 15 minute marker with the line of the crown stem. As long as you're comfortable with doing this, it should take no more than 5-10 minutes to do, and the dial will be straight :) I've done this with several watches, using decent quality tape, and never had an issue of slippage :)

  6. Not the first time I've heard of the glide-lock clasp welds failing... (I wouldn't trust one period) Sorry to see that it's messed up your watch though :( Would you have to replace it with an identical part, or would you be happy to put a bracelet from a 16610 on it instead? Other options would be straps :) Best of luck :good::drinks:

  7. Thanks bro! :drinks: I picked it up in Nov 2008, wore it a few times and gave it to my Dad. He wore it as a daily beater for 3 years and handed it back to me  (he now wants something a little different!) I was going to re-finish it but felt the scratches/dings/wear gave it so much more character :) It's still keeping excellent time too!

Fantastic, and absolutely, it's all about the character :victory:
