  1. hehe i like that to, would like to have same "look" on the case, but not sure how to vintagnize the case

If you want to get some beefy gouges in the case, the method I've used, is to get a pair of very sharp scissors, open them, and holding the top blade like a knife, slash into the case as if you were cutting a loaf of bread :) The challenge is doing it in such a way that it looks like random impact damage, rather than an artificially placed scratch ;)

  2. T, on the DSSD reps (on he V5 anyway) it can be depressed from the outside, this one opens when pushed from the inside. The rep DSSD valve operation seems totally wrong to me unless it's supposed to be a manually operated release valve, which I doubt...

As far as I know, the valve should not be depressable from the outside, as that would allow water pressure to open the valve and flood the case, which wouldn't be the best idea :bangin: I was thinking of the Sea-Dweller which is the same age as the 16610 Submariner :)

  3. They're called ADs :) Go to the authorized dealer and try on the real thing. If you like it, hop online and buy the rep. As long as you keep reasonable expectations about the product, I doubt you'll be disappointed :) If, of course, you don't like the watch, no need to buy the rep ;) I've found that with watches, what looks good on the screen, might not always look so great, or 'feel right' on your wrist.

  4. Thanks all for your response. All the watches where bought from eu sellers. The point I want to make is this: i know when buying a rep you can face some problems, can also happen with a gen.

To give you all an example, this the reaction I got from my dealer about the fake ETA:

"Are you sure that base movement was not swiss

    >

    > There are swiss Base movements with some Asian Components installed

    >

    > Infact almost all Swiss reps now have base movement but have a couple

    > of asian parts also included as you ETA do not supply these movements

    > anymore.

    >

    > The Asian ETA is all 100% cloned, but a lot of the swiss ETA movements

    > are assembled with some asian parts.

    >

    > if you can send me a picture of the movement i can query it with factory.

    >

    > You must understand i do not open watches when i receive them. This

    > would break the pressure seal if any... and with the amount of items i

    > ship i cannot open every single watch.

    >

    > The only time i open a watch is if a customer asks me to take a

    > picture of the movement.">

This afternoon i went realy nuts when my watchmaker told me that each spacing on my super sea dweller is different. Thats why the SEL's won't fit.

Mind you, i'm not talking about cheap watches, 225 euro or more, is about $300

I will take my loss and buy a sec hand Planet Ocean.

Any 'pressure seal' will be re-set when the caseback is replaced (unless the process were to somehow shred the gasget...)

  5. Feeling inspire by his recent posts, I took some quick pics this morning of Lani's 9411 twin. Born just a year apart and residing 3,400 miles away from one another, this watch and Lanikai's share a strong connection and bond; seems that a lot of the life events and occurrences that have been taking place on a personal level between Lani and myself have been shared and observed, coincidentally begining around the same time I finished and sent him his watch.

    Strange? We think so :)

Anyways... Some quick pics. Sorry for the sub par quality...

    Thanks for looking!

    //ubi

Sub par my ass  That's a fine timepiece, and fantastic photos as always :drinks:

  6. I have a gen Rolex Datejust, but just got started "playing" with reps, and now I find myself picking my rep Submariner more often than my gen.

Maybe it's just the fact that it's something I built, versus something I bought. (I don't DARE mess with the gen.)

    Anyone else have this problem?

Here's my Gen Datejust (Black stick dial, smooth bezel, U serial #) and my Rep Submariner

Definitely. Rep or gen aside, I wear the Tudor Sub I built myself, way more than the rep 1655 I bought myself as a birthday present :pardon: I guess that's what happens when you build something :victory:

  7. Yep TJ nice to see, we were just saying in that other post about gen owners not playing enough

The lack of CG realy grows on me

I was about to say, that the case reminded me of the Project X watches, but Vlydog beat me to it

I know guys, you're going to rip me, but IMHO IT'S AWFUL! The owner managed to completely wreck that watch. The black pearl is unuseful, the case without CGs but with triplock crown makes no sense...and a LV dial too??? Please God, forgive that guy, he doesn't know what he has done...

I agree, the black pearl is completely unuseful, but the rest, I can't see a problem with it... LV dial = enhanced visibility :)

A shame. I always see these customizations of classic Rolex watches as being the watch equivalent to this

    camo300sl4-thumb-540x405.jpg

For those who are unfamiliar, this is was a rare Mercedes 300SL 'Gullwing', which is was 1 of the most coveted & valuable cars ever made.

To be fair though, a session with a media blaster and a re-spray, and that could once more be a beautiful car with mass appeal :) Along the same lines, I think if the black pearl was to be replaced with a fresh one, then it would be a nice watch IMHO :)

I agree with D that a DLC bath would be nice.

So what case did he use?

Looks like he took some inspiration form these guys: http://www.projectxdesigns.com/

I'd guess a standard 16610, with the CGs ground off and the cyclops removed... There's no lug holes and no rehaut engraving, so that would be my guess :)

  8. I'd loooove to get some insight as to what you've turned up in your testin and searching around, by way of a guide. I suspect you and I float in similar financial boats.

Perfect example, I give By-Tor a hard time about the WM9V2, telling him we all came here because we were protecting each other from being ripped off $600+ on a fake Rolex.

The fact that it is the best sub, is beside the point. :animal_rooster:

I'd hope not for your sake, as my financial boat is little more than a rowing boat with a couple of busted oars... The only plus side, is it's stopped 'taking on water' and currently afloat, even if only for the time being... :)

I'd be happy to let you know the dealer I've been using recently if you'd be interested :)

As Ubi and By-Tor put it, try before you buy. RWG has saved me from making some very costly mistakes at the AD.

As Lani put it, I can't wait until my 1680 and 1665 projects come off of my bench. Way more interesting to say "I assembled this from parts, procured over the last year!".

Gen forums-- I lurk on a few, pictures usually rock but the conversation is a bit blah.

    RWG FTW!

Absolutely, there's no better feeling than that :) I don't think that owning a gen could come close (unless it was a watch worn by a specific person) as all that's involved is spending money, and the product is identical to one which can be purchased by anyone else with the price of admission, and there's no fun in that :D

  9. Woh! Was the OP's comment referring to something of yours?

I would never mistake what you do hunting down, modding, and piecing together quality pieces from budget friendly sources for $50 canal street garbage. Thats a world apart. I apologize if you felt I was inferring anything like that, but I would hope you know I would never do that to you!

The OP's comment wasn't (as far as I know) referring to something of mine, I suspect it was just some lazy trolling to see what it provoked, and I think Nanuq's above post absolutely sums up the difference between people who are interested in watches, and the people who simply view them as status symbols of marketing and commercialism. However, the most recent watches I've purchased, such as the Tiffany & Co Sub, the DateJust for my wife, my 1655 etc, have ranged from
