Nice!
lol
Projects are what I need to get into - respect for doing the work yourself
Will look forward to seeing what comes next!
Many thanks again
Next off the line, will be a SouthAfrican MilSub, which I'll be donating as a forum giveaway
I think there's two distinct approaches to projects: Building for a particular watch, and being as accurate as possible, and building simply for the pleasure of building
I tend to lean more towards the latter approach
I can appreciate the effort which goes into a build such as by Freddy, Ubi and others, but it's not a level I strive to aspire to. As long as the watch comes out as I had in mind, I'm happy

If the power reserve was a known flaw at the time of sale, it should have been disclosed. Just to clarify, are you referring to the power reserve while the watch is off the wrist for observation, or is it stopping while it is actually being worn? I hope you manage to get an amicable resolution, best of luck

Awesome gesture indeed

Superb, modding is good!
I might even have been tempted to leave all the numerals off bar the rolex crown at 12, so it mimicked the plain dial posted by freddy, but it looks great as it is

From what I understand, DLC is PVD's harder and more durable big brother

+1 on the sewing machine oil. It really does make a difference

Here you go, T.
I'd recommend that you start with something a little more substantial than hands...maybe some screws.
That's awesome, T, thanks for the link
So far, I've been using a butane cigar lighter and getting reasonable results, but not quite perfect yet... Lets just say I've got a project in mind

I'm trying to get the hang of it, and wondered if anyone had any hints?
-
That's lovely, TeeJay
Any more info on it? Is it a gen dial? I've never seen it before!
Thanks indeed
The watch cost £26, if memory serves, and the dial is simply a layer of vinyl with a woodgrain finish
I removed the dial markers, applied the sticker, poked holes with a pin for the markers to re-attach, and that was the result
It should've had the full complement of Roman numerals, but one of the markers snapped, so I had to improvise/compromise on the design

I've just got into the series, and figured it had some watch-porn potential, and wondered if anyone had eyeballed precicely what folks were wearing? In an ad I caught a glance of, what my mind identified as a pumpkin Planet Ocean, on Michael Weatherly's wrist, but I haven't been able to get a good enough glimpse to confirm/deny that...
Here's a little inspiration...

First time I've seen a Doxa on rubber, but me likey
Awesome perishing at the flexing point as well, vintage battle-scars

The message should not be "don't ever swim" with a rep.
Rather have it pressure tested, and you may be pleasantly surprised how good some are.
If your watch fails a pressure test it may not be a design fault, but purely the lousy manner in which the reps are put together.
I have two $70 watches (Rolex and Breitling non-chrono) that both have been tested to 5 atm and had no problems.
I also bought a Breitling Skyland chrono advertised as waterproof to more tham 50m which could barely take 2 atm. This has subsequently been waterproofed by Domi and is fine. I swim with that regularly.
However this leads me to a general complaint: All too often this aspect of the watch is ignored. And for sports watches like the PAMs above being water proof is essencial. So I really think more pressure (no pun intended...) should be brought on dealers to do a test before they ship from China. If they can spot the problem watch out there it would be a lot easier and cheaper than having to do it here.
Also this should be a key aspect of any review of sports watches here. To have to take off your diving watch before you swim is a huge tell, whereas lume-dots are not. Yet I frequently get the impression that reviews focus the other way round.
Absolutely so
IMHO, the real moral of the story is not "don't go swimming with reps". The real moral is don't go swimming with any watch which has not been properly checked and serviced. I have ruined a gen AP and Breitling taking them swimming without having them tested. Chrono's definitely are higher risk with all those entry points whether rep or gen. By the way have you ever noticed that most gens are listed as "water resistant" not "waterproof". That is not an accident.
Personally, I tend to swim with properly sealed and serviced reps rather than gens since I am less vigilant on servicing the gens.
Now I think that we must never forget that a Rep' stays a Rep' and we take Risk in playing with water...
If you prepare your Rep' to Water resist it's different...
And for finish...with Rep' you are lucky or not
I think it's a reasonable risk...
Reps aren't waterproof...

The ignorance of some people never ceases to amaze me

Do the $15 DG2813 movements come lubed? or are they still just another accident waiting to happen? I'm guessing that's what most of the 21j movements are already..?
I believe they do, but I'm sure I read that it is better if the movement comes in a sealed foil pack rather than just a plastic shield
hmm... I'll consider all options... And to answer your question TeeJay.. I never picked up the deodorant! I got to mercadona every week, so I'll try picking up a can!
Best to consider the options and see what's the best solution
Give it a quick spritz to see what you think, but I think you'll like it

so is that like along the lines of acne or a brain tumor in watch talk?? Is there someting a novice like myself could do? (the most i've done to my movements in the past are adjust the timing lever to make watches run faster/slower.. but that's about the extent of it..
I'd say somewhere mid-way between the two... I've never done it myself, but I believe that if someone knows what they're doing, and could sufficiently strip the movement, it's probably quite easy to re-align the parts/levers correctly. The problem, is being able to strip the movement sufficiently to access them. If you'd have to get a watch-smith to do the work, it might be more cost-effective to simply swap the movement entirely
Best of luck
[Edit to add]
On another note, did you ever get round to trying that deoderant from the Mercadona?
-
If pulling the crown to the handset position isn't actually hacking the movement or adjusting the minute/hour hands, then I'd think that there's a problem with the keyless works...

I know what you mean, my Planet Ocean Chrono is the same way. And I certainly could have offered that model up to this thread, but I do wear it. When I know I won't be between scores of people. I am sheepish of the size of it. Unlike the Aquaracer bracelet (as you describe it here) those Omega gen/rep bracelets? Nize.
I haven't tried the chrono variant of the Planet Oceans, but I'd definitely say that the Aquaracer sits further from the wrist than a regular Planet Ocean. For me, that was just a watch which I simply wouldn't wear at all, so I just appreciate the photos
-
Ahhhhh, behold the power of replica..............
Cost wasn't even an issue with this one, I simply didn't like how high the thickness of the caseback set the front of the watch from the wrist when I tried it on. The link positioning, I would liken to wearing a Sub with the bracelet 'inside out'... Awesome in the photos, just not for me when I tried it on
Is that possible? Didnt even think of that. Its a great idea, i need to look into this. thnx!
It's very possible, as long as you can track down a dial
Might be worth going with a no-date variant to avoid alignment issues with the datewheel, but I'd definitely recommend it as a project
As long as you're happy de-casing a movement, and removing and replacing the hands, it's probably a 15 minute (if that) procedure
The result, a watch which looks every bit as nice as a Submariner (and is still branded as a Submariner), but, as it lacks the R-Word on the dial, it flys completely under the radar
-
I adore it, but could never use it in public...
Maybe ill get it just to wear at home, it might just be worth it ;0
Swap out the dial for a Tudor dial, and you get total anonymity in public
-
For me, it would be the Tag Aquaracer.
I love how it looks in photos, but when I tried one on, I didn't like it at all
-
If it's anything like his 'extra for waterproofing', I'd steer well clear...
-
I was actualy watching that last night!
What i meant since most of the brands are up there it would be weird not to have two other big ones like those with them
Cheers bro
I quite agree, Tag especially
I just couldn't resist the chance to relive that movie moment
Misleading ad or I'm just blind?

If it was stopping while being worn, that could indicate that the movement needs a service. To be fair, I once sold a watch to a friend where the movement had been serviced (twice) only a month or so previously, yet for some reason, it just died about a month later.
Let's hope things can be resolved ![:)](https://rwg.cc/datastore/emoticons/emoticons/default_smile.png)
