  1. ehm....may i ask a question please? i still don't know much about the whole theme here but, and don't hit me please, why do you destroy a watch to....this??? is it some kinda special stile? like some people tune cars to wrecked looking ones?

This model would have been made in the mid seventies, and time and wear takes its toll on a watch, so it's just a case of making the watch look accurate for the age it should be :)

  2. It's scary what these things go for on there!!

On the UK Bay, there are a TON of TAG and Omega reps gong for crazy money!!

Seems to be the big 2 at the moment to get scammed for!

    Sixx :bones:

That's because they're not Rolexes, bro. The average Joe Sixpack knows all about fake Rolexes, but probably doesn't have a clue that the industry replicates the other brands as well...

  3. My seiko Sportura (for sale)

    Spongebob wallet

    Dogtags

CRKT first strike (go to war knife)

    SOG ageis (regimental knife, EDC)

Nice to see a set of complete Canadian dogtags :) I have one as well, but only wore the one half Wolverine-Style. When I got married, I took my wife's name, so replaced it with a set of current UK-MOD issue tags (modded with US Silencers) I'm not in the Forces, I just have a phobia of being unidentifiable post-mortem, which some have attributed to me getting lost as a child... Oh well :)

  4. I say "buy what you like and like what you buy" Clever aint I? :D When I first arrived here I knew nothing about movements. I saw that the quartz Omega PO crono was around $125.00. The 7750(the sub dial spacing has been fixed) version was over twice that much, I chose the quartz. I can not bring myself to wear this anymore, It Is a poster child for a "fake watch". The thing that really bothers me Is that It does not feel right. I dont mind wearing a quartz watch once In a while but only If that Is the Intended movement, Seiko, casio, etc. If Im going to wear something that supposed to be a "high quality rep" then It must have the right movement. It's not about what someone else might or might not think. It's about how the watch feels on my wrist. If I have a cheep $20.00 quartz movement In a watch that suposed to be a "high end Swiss timepiece, well whats the point? :g: If someone were to have tried to explain this to me a year ago I would have not... "got It" Again It's not what people will think. Most people dont know "Jack" about watches. I see a lot of people using there cell phones to tell them the time of day. To each his own. If you feel comfortable wearing a quartz rep then by all means do so. If you ever worry about being " called out" then there no better way to Insure this then by wearing a watch with the wrong movement. As luck would have It you will be at your HS reunion sitting next to a hot old girlfriend who works for a watchmaker and knows her shi ;) about timepieces. Oh dude thats got to hurt. :wounded1: tic tic tic

That's my motto, and I follow your reasoning on not wearing a quartz version of an automatic watch, in that it is an obvious flaw. Would I wear a quartz Sub? I don't know... Possibly not... There's something about mechanical movements which I do appreciate :) But, for a chrono watch, I think I would rather have the flaw of the quartz movement, than the timebomb of an a7750 doing what it's known to do

  5. @Lani ~ Thank you my friend! As I said, it was your's and Ubi's twin which inspired the build.

@By-Tor ~ yes they have gone up considerably in price over the years. It's amazing how expensive they have gotten.

@ TJ ~ cheers my friend! :drinks:

I have to say, this is such an amazingly comfortable watch to wear. I completely forgot I was wearing it last night when I walked into a Tourneau dealer. Asked to look a the Breitling Aerospace, and then noticed I was wearing my Tudor. I handed it over to my fiancee and the sales rep asked me if the watch was my daily wearer. I nodded and he asked "Is that a Rolex?" Before I could answer, my fiancee, almost with a child like defiance, announced "Noooooo! It's a Tudor!!" It was the cutest and funniest thing I think I have ever heard her say! She knows NOTHING about watches or my watch collection ~ but, bless her heart, she puts up with all my ramblings and multiple glances at my wrist when i am wearing a new toy. She knows this project was very near and dear to my heart, so in spite of the fact that she doesn't know much about my hobby, it's nice to know she's paying attention!

The sales rep just shrugged, clearly not knowing what my fiancee was talking about and proceeded to fumble about with the Aerospace. When I asked him to show me the functions of the watch, he could not make it work. All he could do was show me how to change the day of the week! I was shocked. When i asked him how do I access the other functions, he said "Well, I am not that familiar with this watch, but I am sure it says it in the manual." Man, you expect me to drop $3400 on a Ti Breitling Aerospace, and yet you can't even figure out how to turn the crown to change the modes?

That's a fantastic story :tu: I bet your fianc

  6. +1

I would say the only time that it is worth lying, is if the person in question is being a twat and trying to make themself look big, but to be honest, I've never been in that situation. If anyone's interested, I just tell them I built the watch myself... No lies there :)

  7. so nanuq's post here about the vintage-style no crown guard modded sub got me thinking about a new project :g:

i'd like to build a no crown guard sub from a noobfactory LV (i like the maxi dial look for this project). i am planning on having a chieftang double AR coated crystal (no cyclops), so i'm thinking that it would probably be better to have a clarks crystal (without the crown etching). has anyone here ever tried to install a clark's crystal on a noobfactory sub?

i'm planning on installing a black insert instead of the green LV insert; i'm also going to have ziggy relume the dial, hands & pearl with the blue BG superluminova. finally, i am thinking that i would like a nice big crown on this watch. which brings me to my next question -- who has the biggest crown?

seriously, i'm not sure if a yuki brevet style crown could be installed (or if i would even want to spend that kind of money on a crown), but i'd like a nice beefy crown for this one. let me know if you have any thoughts on where to source something like that (ie. is there a cheap, crappy rep with a wrong, oversized crown?).

anyways, let me know your thoughts on this project (and any helpful advice re: my two questions re: the clarks crystal & big crown).

    thanks in advance :victory:

    deltatahoe

I can't give any advice, but my thoughts on the project: Do it :tu: I'm all for custom projects :good:

  8. I couldn't agree more TJ. There is definitely something special about these Tudor subs that make them stand out from the crowd! The nice comfortable, light feel of a submariner without the worries of the WIS crowd wondering if it is a gen Rolex or not.

Of course, having a 90% gen Tudor sub is another way to ensure that you will not be called out! :D

Absolutely :) Of course, anything less than gen, franken or otherwise, sadly, can never live up to the question 'is it real...?" But, because it's a Tudor, that question just won't get asked :) Here's to flying below the radar :plane::ph34r:B):drinks:

  9. hi,

thank you for the responses...i have crystals...its the seconds hand that i really need ..i guess i can buy a set of hands on ebay and either crimp it on or bore it out til it fits..i just figured that the asian movements would have a standard size second hand...teejay,i used liquid brown shoe wax and charcoal pencil on the dial...i try to experiment with different mediums...i like to use watercolours as well .......kin tama

Was that charcoal mixed into the wax? I might have to try that technique, as while baking the dial achieves a nice color to the lume, it destroys it's luminosity (which is one of my most crucial requirements in a watch) but applying a patina over the lume, that should still be relatively visible :) I believe CousinsUK sells hands which will fit asian movements :) If I recall, that model Submariner was also issued to the Australian navy back in the day :)

  10. You could say I am definitely a proud, proud member of the Tudor club TJ! Thanks! :drinks:

@dluddy - thanks! Yes, I am in love with this one too!

Any time :):drinks: Anyone can wear a Rolex, wearing a Tudor is thinking outside the box (a bit  ) and a guaranteed anonymity from the "Is that a real Rolex?!" question ;)

  11. Now I am confused - my understanding is the DSSD crystal is domed not flat hence the loupe. Are you saying the DSSD rep has a flat crystal?

It is a commonly discussed issue the loupe effect but noone has talked about AR having any influence on the effects of viewing at 45+ angles.

I noticed JJ's Marina Militare in the FS forum has a pic showing the sort of effect I mean but not as much as reported by others on the forums in respect of the DSSD.

I have go admit, I thought the DSSD had a flat crystal, but I stand corrected :)
