  1. Hi,

I am currently wearing and loving my Submariner replica, it really surprised me when I got it! I purchased it from Narikaa (Reg) and I have nothing but praise for him and his products and service! Anyway, I have never really liked metal straps. My wrists are quite small, and I usually have to take out "one too many" links! I have seen a few Submariners on brown leather straps, but I have always thought instantly - this is fake...

I have seen a Rolex replica strap which isn't too expensive, hopefully the quality will be good! But my question is, will this ruin the look and make it so obivious that it is a replica watch? I would rather keep it to look as genuine as possible, but the Rolex strap itself isn't very good... surprisingly a genuine Submariner has a extremely cheapy strap! Considering the price; I would expect the bracelet to be better!

If anyone has a Submariner on a different strap, I would be extremely grateful to see a picture of it!

    Thank you.

The thing you have to remember when thinking about the Submariner bracelet, is that it was never originally built or intended to be a 'prestige watch', but a functional, rugged diver's tool, like a race car which has been stripped down for speed and only has a bucketseat and crash-frame inside: Such a car would not be good for taking the wife and kids shopping for groceries, but will smoke a soccer mom's SUV right off the line. It is the original function which must be considered :)

Of course, the one problem with leather straps, is they aren't waterproof... Sure, they look nice, but personally, I can't see the point in wearing a waterproof diver's watch on a strap which cannot get wet, meaning the watch would have to be removed before it can get wet. However, rubber is solves that problem...

  2. Well, i crossed a brigde yesterday and donated to RWG as to become a VIP member. All i can say is, i should have done this ages ago! It is not really what the VIP member status gives you really (now is it) but it is what you feel!

In my opinion, donating to this forum is acknowledging all that the members have given you (advice, pictures, ideas for future projects, joy!) and contributing so that it keeps going on! It is also about entering the family, being part of a community.

I just wanted to encourage all the members that are reading this (particularly the ones interesting in Rolex as i am), that this forum gives you so much information about rolex watches, gen or rep, that you couldn't have found otherwise. Giving $15 for 6 months is not much now is it, especially when you are willing to spend something like $200 on a rep.

I purchased my first rep a month ago (WM9 BK V3 sub) and i think it also explains why i chose to donate. Even though i have been in and out of the world of rep for years now, i couldn't decide myself on buying one. I wanted something really close to perfect. With BK, i found it.

There is also something i understood just recently, the real joy about rep is if you're looking for the beauty of the watch that you may not afford its gen counterpart. It shouldn't be about trying to convince people around you that you own a rolex. That is also why, after i receive my V3, i am going to decide on a project and collect all the parts necessary to my dream vintage rolex watch. I don't know about you but for me the most important thing is how the dial looks (a brownship or very light patina depending on the watch).

Also, an added feature to the world of rep is that, especially for the vintage ones, the great thing is that you can really choose to make it like you want it to be. Its look, aged insert or not, the color of the indices on the dial, everyting. Whereas, if you are looking for a gen, it is always tough to find the exact one you'd like to possess!

Anyway, it was just a small contribution to convince the members to support this community. After all, if you are reading this, it must already have given you so much!

    Thank you for reading.

Absolutely spot on :good: It might not be 'perfect', but if it's the watch which you want to be wearing, that's all that matters :victory:

  3. Thanks teejay thats a great idea about the UV glue thanks again. aeromatic!!! :victory:

i just thought would be great to have one made for a vintage pepsi bezel!

No problem at all :) There are the bakelite bezels available on the bay, although the colors are quite a bit darker than on the more modern inserts, but if you were meaning the brighter inserts, I think it would look fantastic :good:

  4. Thanks teejay my friend will be very happy! i was thinking about getting him to make me a clear acrylic bezel insert cover for one of my watches you know curved like the blancpain and glue it to the existing bezel insert so you end up with an original rolex bezel with the look of the fifty fathoms blancpain the only problem will be if glue is used, it must be a special kind that dries like glass to keep the bezel insert clean looking! this insert cover will protect the insert from scrapes and knocks!

Any time, and I really like the sound of your composite bezel idea :) For a glue, I would suggest the UV glue which folks use for attaching cyclopses to the crystal :)

  5. Looking good Amigo! I got another one cooking, albeit with some sad story behind it! Parts are starting to arrive, but will start the movement/dial/hands assembly today! Just waiting for the Xtal then I'm good to finish! Should be here tomorrow!

    Here's where it starts!

Thanks, bro, all I've really done thus far is re-finished the case, but with a custom finish. As you know, I'm not one for bling, so I brushed the center links, but also the bezel. Makes it much more understated :) The trick now, will be getting a suitable movement :D I should have a day/date/24hr Daytona knocking about somewhere, but I still can't find it... I'm tempted to try and source a quartz movement, as I just don't trust the a7750s... I guess I'll just see how the project unfolds...

I'm liking the look of what you've got so far :tu: Is the white and blue dial simply a 'factory guard' dial, or was that actually a watch dial? Either way, it looks pretty cool, but of course, the Daytona dial you're going to use looks awesome :victory:

    [Edit to add]

I forgot to say, I did a little lume work on the dial as well, so the markers would be more visible in the dark, as well as putting a mark at 12 :) Not as per gen, but I figure it's an improvement in functionality :pardon:

  6. This is totally awesome. Perhaps now we can finally get a decent/great 1680 Red Sub dial made? If so, can the red be screened to be raised and bright red like the original?

    http://rolex.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-481641/

    In a word: No.

All dial markings, such as text, numerals, markers, are all transparent areas, on the black decal. It would be possible to use red paint or ink on the base of the dial, so it would show through as red text, but it would not be raised. As example, this is what I did with one of Slartibartfast's Explorer dial decals to create a 6200 dial, using a black Sharpie on the base of the dial so the text Explorer and Precision would not be visible...

  7. i think this is the key -- appreciating a watch for what it is -- rep or gen. there are some reps that (even as a genuine owner; sometimes especially as a genuine owner) absolutely blow the mind as far as quality goes. speaking of which, i wonder how much longer i can hold out before picking up one of these ultimate DSSDs

we've come a long way, that much is for certain :victory:

    Absolutely spot on :)

  8. @TeeJay - gotta love the custom jobs, eh?? :D

Oh yeah, it's all about the custom work :tu: I plan on hitting up the site where most of those parts came from to build some custom watches :) One of me, one for one of my best friends, and one for my godson for when he's old enough to appreciate it :)

  9. Hey T-!

Have you ordered from Cqoute before? How was it?

    Thanks, Bro!

    F-

Where do you think I get my budget parts from, bro? ;):whistling:

I've never had a problem using the site. The guy I linked above, I'd totally recommend. Cheap as chips, but still reasonable quality merch for the cost :) If you use the escrow service, there is 0% risk about the goods, as if they don't arrive, or you're not happy, you don't release the funds. If a dealer gets kicked off the deal is automatically cancelled, so again, 0% risk to your wallet :) (any more than three negative feedbacks, and they are gone. Even Tony got booted from there because of that system, and look how good he is to do business with, some yahoo just didn't understand how to do business in the rep world :bangin: ) I'd highly recommend them :)

  10. I actually feel sorry for them, and think it is ridiculous to mock them for their lack of knowledge. You don't have to know the ins and outs of dial fonts to appreciate owning a Gen Rolex. We on the other hand, have to know these details as it makes all the difference between a fake you can spot at 10 yards or one you can wear with confidence in most environments. It makes us anal but knowledgeable.

If I had paid a lot of money for a gen, I wouldn't be too happy if $300 fakes were knocking hell out of the market. Just like I'm not happy the way programmers from India will work for the smell of a curried rag, thus undercutting my profession. As yet they haven't got their act together and they don't have the requisite experience, but it will happen, and of course China is standing in the background ready to undercut India, the bowl of rice being cheaper than the proverbial curried rag!

As I have said before, a similar thing happened in the guitar market with Japan producing excellent Gibson/Fender copies by the mid 70s, sometimes actually better quality than the guitars they were copying. Since then manufacturing has moved via India, Indonesia, Korea and now China, who are producing the best and cheapest fakes of them all. Fender and Gibson have partially combatted this by producing Epiphone and Squier models in the Far East. It is long past time the companies threatened by fakes like Rolex did the same thing. If Rolex invested in a good quality mass market rep, let's call it Polex, manufactured in China, for a start the Chinese government would be much more likely to clamp down on the fakes, Rolex would be making more profit and providing an upgrade path from Polex to Rolex, similar to what they tried to do with Tudor though Tudor was too expensive for the mass market.

    +1

What I would really like to see, would be a Rolex with a digital display incorporated, like the Omega X-33 or some of the Breitling models.

PS That 'curried rag' comment...

PPS I'm calling dibs on the name 'Tudex' as their sub-prime line :victory:
