  1. Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is likely that a minimum quantity is required ( 100 watches might be risky to ship..) Polo is a new vendor for me. Will search him up, good to have more names to inquire.

I'm not sure, but I think I've read before that 50 is the 'magic number', and don't forget, if these're custom logo'd dials, no copyright issues, so no risk on shipping (other than being taxed by customs :bangin: ) Best of luck with your project :good::victory:

  2. My complaint is in no way directed to you the community, the guys im complaining to is the people behind the wheel that states the rules and cash your money.

And that "give back to the community" and "it costs to have a server + domain name" is kind of lame.

Give back to the community is great, but paying a fee every month to do so? Wich community are you contributing to? the users of the board or the people behind the wheel?

Lets do some quick math on the webhost stuff

its aprox 500 VIP members and 250 platinum, all these members pay right?

    so 500 * 2.50 = $1250 and 250 * 10 = $2500 = $3750 a month... where on earth do you find that expensive webhosting for one website?

Na, need some better argument to have a monthly fee on a forum.

How many times in the past year has RG gone down? How many times has RWG gone down in the past year?

Every time it has happened, RWG has provided a place for the members of RG to hang out till the servers got back online. Maybe if RWG was hosted on cheaper servers, subscriptions would not be necessary. Then again, if it was hosted on cheaper servers, it would not be available the next time RG's servers go down... Keeping the lights on here, allows people to be here, which allows the community to form... The reason I rarely log onto RWI or RG? I simply don't need to, RWG has the level of activity I like, not too much, not too stagnant, and some truly awesome people as members :)

At the end of the day, if you don't want to pay a subscription, you don't have to...

  3. I dont know whats more disturbing, The fact that there is a forum for fake watches or people would publicly admit they buy fake watches. Yuck! Imagine the character of people you would meet on a fake Rolex forum? Sad just sad

The friendliest and most generous group of people I've ever incountered, either offline or online. I'd be proud to call anyone here a friend and a brother, which is more than I could say about the snoots on any gen forum :thumbsupsmileyanim: What a bunch of elitist sadsacks

  4. These are definite keepers:

    DSCN3117.jpg

Incomplete, this needs a new movement (Swiss) and appropriate hands for the gifted dial. The insert and pearl are mods I did today, and will likely remain in place till better quality parts become available.

When I wore the body of this watch on my honeymoon, it looked like this:

    DSCN1204.jpg

Since then, it has been completely regenerated into this:

    DSCN3132.jpg

Gifted dial and movement make this watch mean a lot to me. The fact I have literally built it from parts makes it feel like my watch, and other than possibly upgrading the insert and pearl (if I can be bothered) I'd say this watch is just as I want it, and my ideal beater :)

This was on my wrist when my best friend got married in a traditional Shinto ceremony, although it looked like this at the time:

    DSCN0962.jpg

This watch has had a lot of time invested in it, and probably represents the first watch I fully built myself, as I also had to fabricate the dial. It still needs to have a coin-edge bezel installed, but to be honest, that's pretty low on my list of project priorities :) To me, this watch represents what I believe to have been the watch described in the novel of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

This watch was a wedding present from my bro, Nikki6. Not really much more I can say about it than that : :thumbsupsmileyanim:

This watch is a keeper for the simple fact that it makes a good backup when needed, and, I'm very happy with the lumejob I did on the dial. Other than that, I don't like it. I don't like wearing it, I don't like that it doesn't have a timing bezel, and I don't like that the dial makes my head hurt when trying to tell the time... Sorry, Steve, this one's just not for me... :pardon:

I'm pretty sure what I'm going to do be doing with this gifted Daytona case set, but, as always, cash means it's going to take time to finish the way I want it to be... So far, I've removed the 'Daytona' text, added lume to the markers (not as per gen, but I don't care about accuracy if functionality can be enhanced ;) ) as well as brushing the bezel and re-enameled the scale. To come, will be new movement (so possibly new hands needed) black bezel, and Tropic strap.

  5. Well, i dont see the point in monthly subscriptions to be able to edit your own posts, that is kind of, to take advantage of peoples situation to get a greedy few bucks more, because you will eventually come to that point when you want to edit your post but, must in this case, pay a few bucks for it, maybe it is not much but still its the principle.

I created this list on RepGeek and later on posted it at RWI, both places i can edit the post...

The reason i posted this here in the first place was to be "kind", to share the list for more watch people and help out, but post it here at RWG seems to have been mistake.

And for you who been so good to save the info, the list is publicly available to anyone at both RG and RWI... ;)

Oh and BTW, over at RepGeek its a lifetime fee to be a VIP member (but without VIP you still can edit your posts), no stupid monthly jibberish

    Cheers

As mentioned before, don't think of it as a subscription, but a contribution to a community which gives a lot to its members. You can, and have, edited the post here, you don't need to pay to do that, all supporter status means, is that it won't say "edited by" each time you edit... Sometimes, I will put [Edit to add] if a thought occurs to me after a post, it's really not a biggie.

The info is publicly available here, no need for a subscription to read it, I just saved it incase the thread was to be deleted (unlikely, as that's not how the mods here roll) so the info could be retrieved. I didn't realize it was also on RG and RWI, I very rarely visit those forums.

At the end of the day, we're all here because we love watches, and useful information is useful to everyone :good::drinks:

  6. Fantastic review, and welcome to the party :):drinks:

I totally understand your point about the cyclops, I don't like them myself, so I tend to remove them from my watches. There are two methods for doing this, well, one method, two approaches, depending on how brave you're feeling :whistling:

    Method One:

Decase the movement and push the crystal out of the case from the back. Using something to protect your fingers, use a butane cigar lighter to heat the cyclops, thus melting the glue enough to allow the cyclops to drop off, or be pushed off with a flat blade. Once the cyclops is off and the glue residue is removed, replace the crystal, applying firm pressure to re-seal the case.

    Method Two:

Do not decase the movement or remove the crystal from the case, but apply the flame from a butane lighter very sparingly to the cyclops. Literally, two seconds at a time, trying to remove the cyclops with the blade each time, until you are successful in popping the cyclops off. DO NOT hold the flame over the crystal for a prolonged time in the hopes of 'speeding up the melt' of the glue, you will only succeed in heating the crystal, thus causing it to expand in the case, which will in turn, cause the crystal to crack under the pressure from its expansion. I have had this happen, and as a result, had to replace the entire crystal. Applying the flame for a few seconds at a time might take longer to allow the cyclops to be removed, but it will minimize the risk of heating the crystal. This method is okay if you cannot remove the crystal yourself, but, be very mindful of the very real risk of cracking the crystal if it is over-heated...

  7. I've just had the experience ... The BIG deal with our Admin is that our raffles are honest and no room is allowed for anything other than total fainess

IMO Admin handled this with pure facts ...

Imagined spending years building something and finding out someone circumvented that work to arrive at the same result in numbers using dishonest means... More apparent members may draw others ..

Weather we are 100 or 1000 the point is integrity.. That is what we are based on

I would be livid it I worked for years honestly to see someone else use dishonest tactics to try and gain whatever they are trying to gain.

I believe a leader as we have looks as this community as in his care and not as a "town he owns"

    leadeship in it's purist form

    +1 :victory:

  8. There's a lot of pirating going on with Joshuas pics.. It was recently by a so called dealer on another florin that I will keep anonymous.. Reason new members should stay grounded here.. And I'd in doubt post a question :)

we're here to support safety in this hobby

Was that the instance where it was possible to see how the watermarks had been removed from the photos and replaced by that dealer's own watermarks?

  9. Those are good questions for the ages but not the point of T's post. His point is quite simple. While he has been working to grow membership and finally reached 25,000 members over a period of years (and that is after eliminating more than 3,000 inactive members over the same time period) he takes a look around and sees another forum advertising substantially more members and doesn't believe it. A quick look and he sees what he saw. I must confess I got curious and tried it and yeah there are several thousand less than advertised there.

Now in reality many forums do this. Heck you can add a specific plug-in to randomly add members. That is not the way T runs this site. Everyone can do whatever they want.

I totally understand the sentiment, it's like when you're walking down the street, and some jerkoff yells a random obscenity from the passenger seat of their friend's crappy car, sure, it's irritating, but at the end of the day, it just shows them up as being a loser... I'd say it's the same situation here. Nothing to gain by lying about having the biggest member numbers, just a hollow 'victory', as it causes the admins of that site to lose face in the eyes of people who learn the truth :bangin: A bit like winning the gold, then being exposed as being a juicer, and being stripped of the medal (and the respect of one's peers) :bangin:
