  1. Being the tightwad I am, I don't really want to spend big bucks on this, as it's just for a fun little project I'm dreaming up (No need to get worried, this one will be as close to 'factory stock' as possible :victory: ) but I think it'll be the icing on the cake. Any recommendations for sources in terms of price/quality? Thanks in advance, amigos :drinks: :drinks:

  2. I'm not real wild about the crystal. I suppose it would probably look a bit better if it was "lowered" a bit so that the "dome" blends into the insert but I'm not really a big dome fan. I'll probably eventually put a T19 on it...

That and the CGs would be my only bugbears as well. As you say though, a spot of weld on the CGs and a T19, and you'll be good to go :) As for not being a big dome fan, they do grow on you :good::drinks:

  3. Love it, awesome list :good: I've never felt the need to shove a watch up my ass to get it through customs, but I have often wondered "Are they going to say anything...?" when I put it in the plastic tray to walk through the metal detector :whistling: Also made me think of the display of rep goods at Narita, which included a pretty shocking Sub, but some very nice bags :) What I was wearing and carrying got no attention whatsoever :victory:

  4. Screw the vintage... out with the old.. in with the new. hahaha ;)

    Love it :tu::rofl:

I agree that you shouldn't get rid of the SOSF, but a DSSD is just so substantial on the wrist. it's hard for me to say a vintage Rollie would be a necessarily "better" choice!!!

I was just thinking which would attract less negative attention on a student's wrist, and vintage is certainly one way of flying beneath the radar :good:

  5. I tried on a gen SOSF, wasn't at all impressed, so never bought the rep (which I do now somewhat regret). I guess what I'm saying, is as you have one of these, I would hang on to it, as it's now a rare watch (in the rep world) and as above, a shiny DSSD might will look out of place on a 'broke student'. If you really want to go with an 'R Word' watch, stick to the more vintage pieces, as they'll attract much less negative attention than the modern pieces :) At the end of the day, it's your watch, so wear what you're happy and comfortable with, but I wouldn't get a DSSD just for the sake of having one, and certainly not at the expense of the SOSF :drinks:

  6. Holy crap, I would have loved to snort her before she did crack!:cry2:

Not a lot's been heard about her for a while, hopefully she's getting herself together :)

    No you just didn't.....

Please don't tell me that you think christina aguilera sounds like Ella fitzgerald now.... :(

There're some depths to which even I wouldn't stoop  To be fair, I did emphasise 'a bit' like Nina, not a 'sounds just like'... I like Amy's voice, it's just a shame her life's such a trainwreck :wounded1:

  7. Played saxophone from 8 yrs old through high school. Been playing guitar (or struggling to do so) for the last 12 years.

My guitar playing would be better described as messin around, more than anything :) I love my instruments though. Fender Stratocaster Tex-mex, Fender Strat American standard, Ibanez S470, Takamine EF-261san.

Of course.. for those of you who didn't make the connection... my Username is pronounced "PLAY FENDER" . Unfortunately I've sold the Fenders over the last couple years and now only have the ibanez and takamine. I'll get another Strat eventually!

I must admit, I always read/thought it as 'Ply-fender', but in my defence, I went for years thinking 'Hermione' was pronounced 'Her-Me-Own' :whistling:

  8. Thanks, guys! Like mastrmind, I don't think I consider luming to be all that fun, but it is a whole lot more satisfying to say, "I did that!" instead of, "I spent $100 to have someone else do that!" Then again, you could just as easily trash a dial in the process--and believe me, it is VERY easy to mess up!

TeeJay, I don't know what nefarious plans you have for those dimensions, but maybe this will help you. The gridlines are 5mm apart:

I guess it's just a case of 'finding the fun', as for me, it's the same as drawing/tattooing/other building projects which involve focussed work :) They're never exactly a laugh a minute, but there's a definite satisfaction which makes the process worthwhile :) Thanks for the photo, it'll definitely help :drinks: I'm thinking that if I can ever get hold of one of the Quartz Heritage chronos, I could remove the existing metal-outlined baseplates, cut some new baseplates from white sticky-back vinyl, stick them in place, lume them, then use some matte varnish spray to 'pull it all together' :) It certainly wouldn't be perfect, but I think it might work :whistling:

  9. Out of curiosity, does anyone know the dimensions of the homeplates? ie width at the base, width below the triangle (they appear to taper in slightly) and length from base to tip?

I relumed the dial myself, and the results were uneven, messy, inaccurate... and not too bad compared to many gen examples!

Reluming is fun :D Very nice work indeed :good::drinks:
