  1. I'm going to have to get one for my 20mm lugs to try out. Can't beat it for that price! Thanks!

Always happy to recommend a good product :good: When it first went on, it was a tiny bit stiff, but that soon developed into a comfortable curve, and as above, the waffle-back really does make the strap incredibly comfortable in hot/wet conditions :good: Here's a pic of it on my Tudor so you can see how it looks :drinks:

  2. +1. I've been rocking the 312 on a black 4-ring NATO and it's comfortable and visually appealing. But if it ever needs dressing up, the OEM black croc is waiting in the wings ;)

That's the way to do it, bro :good::drinks:

I keep trying to like the rubber straps, but I just can't do it. The folded link bracelet on my Tudor, or the solid mid-link ss bracelet on my Stølås Harbormaster are insanely comfortable. The gen jubilee bracelet that was on my franken DateJust was incredible too.

Definitely prefer the SS bracelet over any other options personally. Only watch I currently own that is not on a bracelet is my grandfathers Bulova that I restored and that one is on a custom made HK Tan croc strap. That one is pretty comfy too, but not my first choice.

Same here about liking rubber straps. I try to love them but they aint that great, however, I do like the kevlar style rubber straps like maratac's.

    Leather>SS>rubber

Guys, you really have to give these silicon Tropic-style straps a go. The waffle-back means minimal contact with the wrist compared to a flat rubber strap (which do get hot and sweaty) and they stay cool and dry quickly following a swim/shower. On the other side, the basket-weave texture gives a really nice feel and appearance, and the raised sides make the strap suitable for the chunkiest of lugs, I really cannot recommend them highly enough :good:

  3. I'm not normally as negative/abrupt as I'm going to be here, but personally, I think that unless someone is really nit-picky and anal (unreasonably so) about certain details, there is no need whatsoever for QC pics. If I'm ordering a no-date Submariner, I know what a no-date Submariner looks like, I really couldn't care less which specific one gets shipped to me, as long as it is the right watch. Heck, as long as all the spellings on the dial are accurate, and the thing tells the time when it arrives, I equally couldn't care less how accurate the replication is, and I don't need a QC pic to ease my nerves on what I'm buying. If I receive the wrong item (has happened in the past) it gets sent back. Other than that, I take what I'm given... :pardon: When I got my budget DJ, what I was expecting to be a pure black gloss dial, turned out to actually have a very subtle sunburst effect, which is almost impossible to see, but absolutely stunning. QC pics would have spoiled that surprise for me... :pardon: I mean, c'mon, we're not a bunch of grade schoolers, we're all grown men, time to Man Up over this QC pic issue and place the order knowing what it should look like, and then have the stones to accept what comes (within reason) The other alternative to being wet-nursed like this, is to start buying gens to ensure 100% satisfaction and customer service :bangin: Sorry for the rant, I'll get off my soapbox now... :drinks: :drinks: :drinks: :drinks: :drinks:

  4. Looks nice. Wish there would be a version for use with a buckle though. Especially if people are buying the rubber because they want to wear the watch as a tool watch.

I grew to like the look of the bracelett with polished midlinks but I hate that they made such a complex and nice clasp and then connected the first link by welding two spots instead of milling everything from one solid piece.. There are a couple of broken gen clasps on the rolex forums. Wouldn't want to risk having my watch drop to the floor and have the insert shatter on top of what else breaks.. New clasp, new ceramic insert and bezel, full Rolex service.. $$$

If I remember, the DSSDs have been particularly prone to this breakage...

  5. Okay, cool. I'm going to give it a pop.

Boy, do those end links look like crap though!

Edit: Quick question to JMB before I hit buy, how much (for want of a better word) "overhang" is there on the dial - i.e. if I took a mm off, would I still be able to throw it in a jumbo case if I got the chance?

Awesome :thumbsupsmileyanim: I think you'll be okay with the DJ case, but I'll have to defer to J about the size of the Jumbo case rehaut, afterall, I wouldn't want you to butcher a perfectly good dial, and have it wind up too small for the proper case  As before though, if you can't make anything work with the DJ, I'll take it off your hands at original price, as soon as I have the spare cash :) And of course, if it does work out, well, you wind up with a nice watch :good::drinks:

  6. Would you mind pulling that crown out and taking a ruler to rehaut?

I have the feeling I'll essentially be a proxy buyer for your DateJust by the end of today.

The ruler's not ideal, but I measured the dial as being 28mm, the rehaut at about 27mm, and the inner walls of the case at about 29mm :)

  7. I just cracked the back of mine, and as you can see, there's quite a bit of play between the dial edge, and the interior wall of the case... While I had to use a ruler rather than calipers, I measured the inside of the case at 29mm. Personally speaking, I think this is workable/can be made to fit but that would be up to you :whistling:

  8. Gotcha. Shame, the dial's too big. If I could've waterproofed it that would have been a fantastic beater for under £100..

I have to admit, I wouldn't be surprised if a 30mm dial would fit (or could be made to fit by gently sanding the dial edges) as I'm pretty sure my DJ takes a 28mm dial with room to spare, but of course, it's your call on pulling the trigger :D I haven't got a lot of spare cash at the moment, but, if you were to buy the DJ from CQout and you can't get the dial to fit, when I can spare the cash, I'd be happy to take it off your hands at the original sale price, as I need a DJ movement for one of my own projects, but as before, totally up to you :)

  9. That could actually be a dealbreaker. Non-waterproofness kills me. My Getat took on condensation after washing my hands ONCE (Tat was kind enough to replace it and get it rated to a decent depth for me) but that was beyond frustrating.

    Did you try waterproofing it?

I know what you mean, and normally, it would be a dealbreaker for me too, but I'd only ever intended to wear the watch on a leather strap at formal occasions :) I never planned on wearing it anywhere where it could conceivably get wet, which is why I never bothered to try and get it waterproofed :pardon: A Cartel dj is more likely to be waterproof, but as above, you will be paying 3 times as much for the privilege ;)

  10. Ha, here here.

That's a good looking watch - I'm not sure if I like the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet on most DJ's. I'm about to pull the trigger on this watch: http://www.cqout.com...asp?id=10993977

Could someone stop me if they notice anything off about it - cheers! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Edit: The end links and SEL's look horrible. I'll likely put it on a leather strap anyways.

Thanks, I don't wear it very often, as I consider it my 'smart/formal wear' watch, but when I do, I really like wearing it :) The only reason I'm suggesting the fluted bezel and jubilee, is because of the dial having Roman numerals, but I think a smooth bezel would still work with what you have :) I'm sure that's the same as the one I bought, which I just took a better pic of :)

    DSCN4074.jpg

    [Edit to add]

I forgot to say, the case doesn't have any serial numbers between the lugs, and mine wasn't waterproof, despite having all the appropriate seals and gaskets. Having it on a strap (which was always my intention for this one) is a good way of reminding myself to take it off before getting it wet :D

  11. Wow, they're much cheaper than I expected. I'm a massive Rolex newb - it was vintage Tudors that plunged me into these deep replica depths - so how's the quality? Does it compare with the cartel versions? It's not like I'd be going out of my way to convince people it's a genuine, but don't want to be called out from across the room either rolleyes.gif

I don't like paying the big bucks for my watches :whistling: Quality... Well, the one I bought from the vendor keeps good time and looks quite nice on my wrist. I've never been called out wearing it, but equally, no one's ever said "nice watch". I think having it on the strap really tones it down even more, and it becomes a pretty anonymous watch at distances of more than 2 meters. Sure, a Cartel DJ would probably be a bit better quality, but, you'll be paying 3 times the price :whistling:

    DSCN3513.jpg

Having the Tudor dial fitted, is another reason you'll be less likely to get called out, as no-one recognizes that name, but everyone knows that Rolex = Fake :victory:

  12. I like the way you think TeeJay.

Are we talking DJ men's or oversize?

Also, are there any A21J DJ's available? Going ahead, I'd probably change the crystal (Clarkes?) and would definitely sand down the rehaut - neither of which I've done before, so cheaper would be better incase I really screw anything up - I can always upgrade the movement later on once I'm more comfortable with modding watches..

I was thinking regular sized DJ, not the DJ II :) And yes, a21js are avaialable. If you want to have some fun experimenting with a budget rep, I think this one will fit your needs perfectly :) Doesn't matter about the dial, as you're going to be replacing it :victory: A lot of people use Clarkes crystals, but I've never done so, so I couldn't tell you what size or model number to look for :pardon:

  13. Your expectations in terms of quality are not at all unreasonable. BK needs to make it right somehow.

Your expectation that it should get done before your holiday is pushing it. The idea that BK should send you a new watch without receiving the old one back first is laughable. This is your first time doing business with him and he doesn't know you at all. Why would he trust that you are going to send his watch back?

I don't think he expected to get it done before his holiday, but would have liked to have it done if possible. I've read before about dealers, I believe both Andrew and Josh sending out replacement stock before the faulty original is received. I can understand that BK is not a dealer, but for him to expect a client to purchase a new watch just to replace something so obviously unacceptably faulty, is what is truly laughable. I'm glad that he has agreed to refund the cost of the local watchsmith, as that is a reasonable solution, but to be honest, a good dealer would offer to source the fix themselves. I've received better service from a dealer on LoudFrog, who, when the crown on my 4th gen PO stopped screwing down (as they were well known to do) not only had it fixed themself, they also sent me a Pumpkin 4th gen back with my own watch as an apology. Now that, is good customer service... For BK to use Amazon as an explanation for 'customer service', no, that doesn't fly. We all know that we're not buying discounted gen stock, from retail outlets which can offer the same kind of service as Amazon or Wal Mart, we all know not to expect that kind of service. What we as a group can expect, is reasonable solutions to issues arising (especially one as glaringly unacceptable as this was) Yes, a reasonable solution was achieved, but not immediately, and that is what truly speaks volumes, not a new guy looking to get a resolution on something which should never have been sent out on the first place...

But enough of the beef, it's Topless Tuesday, time to find some eye-candy :drinks:

  14. Thinking of changing my LV to standard black. To not totally mess it up, should I change the jumbo hands of the LV to the smaller ones, when I change out the bezel to black. Or did Rolex sell some black's with Jumbo LV style hands?

Technically speaking, and in terms of being accurate to the original black Submariner, yes you should. If you don't mind it being slightly different (and having larger hands, ie easier to read...) then just leave them be :good:

  15. Well guys, I tried to work out a solution with BK but he does not care about this customer. He wants me to send the watch back and repaint the stripe that is missing on the E.

That means that I can wait another month, have customs risk again and not take the watch with me on holiday. I will never buy from BK again!

The guy sell tons of watches and will not stand behind his product as I have other dealers seen doing.

    What a dissapontment.

In this hobby, that is considered a reasonable solution... (although I totally understand that it is frustrating that you are unable to wear the watch on holiday, and that his solution doesn't allow you to do that) I agree, it would be better if he were to ship you a new watch, and you send him the one you have, but of course, how he runs his business is up to him... :pardon:
