  1. It's pretty much done. The only problem is a bad stem, which is causing the crown sticking out!

I hope to have it finished by this week, in time for the next board meeting, sock hop, or ice cream social.

Ahh, nothing a pair of wire cutters and a file can't take care of :good: A piece like that would certainly blend in at any of the above venues :good::drinks:

  2. This is a work in progress- 16660 SD, yuki dial, lugholes by jmb and a silver DW from my old DRSD from ages back that I got from Paul in 2005/6. Oh, the silver DW came with a swiss eta, ah for the good old days- all for $139. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pic- maybe some day I'll learn to take pcs.

I may need to do something about the yellow lume- the dial sat in the window sill in the sun for two months but it didn't fade like one of the other dials.

BTW, LHOOQ, I'm liking the 5512 and how did I know you were going to put it on a Tropic?

Looking good :drinks: Depending how comfortable you are with painting/luming, I'd try using a luming tool to apply an ivory enamel paint over the yellow lume, then put lume on top of the enamel paint :)

  3. Mr t m8, freddy333 will be on your ass posting a replay like this with my pics and everyting!!!

Freddy333 m8, im NOT the onely one!!!

I only do it when they're necessary to the reply, and when it comes to seeing a watch being looked over by an RSC watchsmith, it's all about the pics :victory: How else would they get all those small parts put together :pardon:

    [Edit to add]

    Still wearing this one :good:

  4. Its such a spaced out watch so i think walnut is boring on this one.

So i would go with the teak :)

I would have said 'understated' ;) Personally, I prefer the walnut, it creates a nice contrast, where I think the teak looks a bit 'washed out' by comparison

  5. The other thing is - can I really recoup what I paid for my reps?

It depends on what you're selling... Some watches, like a SOSF will always command a good price, because they're hard to come by, but others, probably will not sell for much.

Or at least sell without a significant loss? If not, I'd rather keep them.

If I end up selling all my reps for only one gen I might be a bit disappointed...

If they're ones you don't wear much, there's not much point in holding on to them, but I would advise against selling for the sake of selling, as I suspect the new watch would fail to live up to the expectation, and you'd wind up with buyers remorse. Sure, you could then flip said gen for what you paid for it, but you probably wouldn't be able to replace everything you'd sold which you might start missing... :whistling:

  6. What a tired, silly argument. If this was the case, you would own a Timex and this forum wouldn't exist.

A gen is a gen. Nobody in China can replace that no matter how hard they try,and if you just need the time, get it off your phone like the rest of us.

I never said a gen wasn't a gen. My point, as another member pointed out, was that buying that 'one watch' can just lead to buyer remorse and the loss of previous collection if that was how funds were acquired. The question from the OP was "Would you do it?" My answer was no, and I expanded on why. Your reasons are your own :drinks:

Don't think that's what Tee-Jay was saying Dave. I think he was just pointing out.. that a watch purchase shouldn't be made as an investment decision.

Precisely what I was meaning, thanks, bro :drinks:

  7. I've been doing research for years now honestly I just want a really good dependable submariner and am not that Picky I just want something that does not scream fake even to a trained eye. Just recently have I started hearing about these wm9 v1 etc and just want some details. My basic requirements for a sub is 120 click UNI directional bezel correct markings correct 2.5 magnification all the basic stuff and eventually I'll ad original equipment to it to phase out all the replicated parts so the watch would need to be interchangable with the original model

In that case, don't buy a Rolex... To Joe Public, Rolex = Fake... :whistling: You can wear anything else, and no-one will bat an eyelid, but if you wear a watch with The R Word on the dial... :bangin:
