Only three spots to fill
I'm liking the custom Soxa
The only thing I would suggest for one of the vacancies, might be a leather-strapped dress watch
-
I hate to say it, but I actually like the Omega clock a lot better than the Rolex ones...
I do, and I don't... I agree, the Omega clock does look really nice, but it doesn't have a second hand nor date wheel, so I find the EXP II clock the best balance of function and appearance (it also stands out better against my desktop, where the SMP blended in a bit
)
It's nice to see the perfectly smooth sweep of the DJ though
-
Its a common term with magnifying glasses, there is a slight magnification of the dial and a distortion but its rarely caught by pics though again I dont know with the gen DSSD. I have seen it here on one pic of the PAM217, its one reason why I dont like that destro (Leftie).
I would not have thought that the flat crystal of a DSSD would create the same distortion as a curved crystal, the only thing I can think, is that perhaps any differing chemical compositions of the crystals might result in different optical effects
-
I've never heard it described as the loupe... Curved crystals, such as on the Seamaster, or Panerai 127 will distort the dial at certain angles, but it is not really a magnification effect as such... The GMT II C does have AR coating, but the coating is only on the back of the crystal in the area immediately underneath the cyclops. The DSSD doesn't have a cyclops at all...

Thanks TeeJay.
You're kind of a sub fan, huh. What's the one on the far right?
ww
You could say that
My interest in watches has always focussed primarily on diver's watches
Not that I'm going to wind up with that collection of 20 near identical Subs
That guy was a bit
The far right is by Arbutus, and has a 24 hour subdial at 12, and a power reserve at 6. It was a wedding present from my bro Nikki6
Here's a better photo of it
It originally came on an SS bracelet, but I fitted the strap to give it the dress look I was after
It was a really short notice thing, and 6 really pulled my balls out of the fire with it

+1 on the avoid wholesaleoutlet. I wouldn't call the guy a scammer, exactly, as he does ship goods (where scammers just take your money and ship nothing) but as mentioned (and previously) the goods he does ship are crap of the highest order, and if you try and point this out, Faisal gets a strop on.

After seeing theomega seamaster blue desk top clock gadget, I decided to see what else there might be, and came across this one, which is based on the Explorer II, this one, which is a pretty good DJ, and this one, which is based on a DayDate, so had to share

That's a fantastic review, thanks for taking the time to put it all together
-
Awesome
Not a watch I'll buy again, so it's nice to have a virtual version of it
-
It must be a PAM phenomenon. My 029a was the only watch which ever attracted unsolicited comments from the ladies, but the attention was most welcome
-
Fantastic thread
It's not much of a collection at the moment, several are just works in progress, but, it's what I've got
Not shown, is a digital watch which is a clone of a Suunto Vector
-
Thanks, T, but the more I stare at this thing's sweep the more I think I went through all of this for a mis-packaged 2813! So, does this mean there are short canon DG2813 movements out in the wild?
I wouldn't like to say for sure, I suspect that the no-date Subs available are mostly using movements with the date wheel, and simply using the no-date dial...
-
Fantastic work, and an awesome solution

Yeah totally beievable. Gotta love Hollywood. What is NCIS?
NCIS is an American police procedural drama television series revolving around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service which conducts criminal investigations involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Both the Gibbs and DiNozzo characters sport pumpkin PO's for sure.
Thanks for the confirmations, I'm glad I wasn't imagining things

Thanks & neither am I (a fan of gold). But some watches just go beyond their metals & the 6239 Newman is 1 of those.
I know what you mean there, I would put the classic all gold DayDate Presidential as another such watch
-
Just a quick bump to say I've added considerably to the list

I've been reviewing my plan for the SouthAfrican MilSub I'm planning on building as a forum giveaway, and realized that the PVD case I had planned to buy, is the wrong style... I can buy the correct case style, but it's only in SS, so I was wondering if there might be any possibility of including the case in a future run?
-
As above, I'm not a fan of gold, but that's a fine build
-
I have had watches show up for lume alone that were working fine for the owner, only to act up when I test them after I finish the work.
It's funny you should say that, as when I installed a new dial in my vintage sub, the movement suddenly began to run at -10 minutes per day
I'm not too fussed, as I'll just transplant in a new movement from a donor purchase, but it was really wierd that the movement suddenly develop the miss-timing
Oh well
-
I never saw any while I was there in May, but then again, it probably depends on what part of the city you're in... If you make it to Ikebukuro, check out a British-theme pub called The Hub. The bitesize fish and chips are awesome
Be sure to drink lots of Pocari Sweat too
-
That grey dial looks really elegant, I bet the watch would look awesome on a decent leather strap
-
ooooh, MilSub is pretty rare - I will keep an eye on the giveaways!
Just to whet your appetite, this is the plan I'm going to be roughly following
Sadly, I can't get it Teflon coated, as per the gen, but I'm sure PVD will be acceptable
As you say, it's pretty rare, so I figured it would be fun to create something not often seen, and hopefully, I'll be able to source the parts very easily
I think I agree with your approach to building. Unlike some lucky members, there's no way I could ever get a 100% accurate to gen build, so you might as well build something you like
It's not like anyone is likely to pick you up on it really - there's been so many variations of Rolexes that only a true WIS would be able to tell in the wild!
Thank you for being an inspiration though, I will undoubtedly bug you with questions when I finally set to work on one myself
lol
As you say, you might as well have something you like
Much better to build something you want, rather than buying something and learning to like it, and you're quite right, out in the wild, only a true WIS is going to know, and chances are, if they know watches that well, they'd appreciate it for what it is, rather than some elitist gen owner who only knows what their watch cost
I think the Rolex line with the greatest 'flexibility' is probably the DateJust/DayDate, simply because there is so much variation across the range
Glad to be of inspiration, and if you do have any questions, I'll certainly do my best to answer them, although there are folks here who know way more than I do
