  1. Good discussion topic.

While I respect the P9000 series movement, I tend to agree with you M.

Panerai is and will always be about the historical models.

I do appreciate and love the 8-day movement - kind of a passing of the torch from the Angelus to a modern day movement.

I'm not feeling most of the new designs though g.gif

I think, like all markets, the watch market is about one up-man ship and Panerai is trying to stake it's place

Given the amount of brands moving to alternative materials and avant garde designs, I t do think they are holding somewhat true to their roots

    My thoughts exactly :)

I'm sick of hearing this "don't get reps wet!" myth. I've had one rep fog up under an immersion test (104) and the replacement was quite happy going underwater :whistling: The only time I actively keep a watch out of the water, is if a ) it is on a fabric or leather strap or b ) I know that the rear o-ring is not in place, having removed it for another watch ;)

Can watches flood? Of course they can. Do the majority? I would say 'no'. People can get unlucky, but I do believe that it is simply a case of bad luck rather than a flaw inherent to reps... Who remembers the photo Pugwash posted of a fogged up Seiko? So much for 'gen waterproofing' ;):bangin:

  3. Thanks for sharing TJ :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Personally i like it,reminds me of russian aviation watches like Denissov and Strumanskie

No problem, amigo :) A lot of the watches on the site have the look of the Russian dive watches with the 'grill' over the crystal, and U-Boat style dials and crowns :tu: Not entirely to my taste for wearing, but an aesthetic I seriously appreciate :D

  4. Kind of interesting, although not to sure about the half lumed dial. A little odd looking to me.

I think I prefer the white dial/SS version

It's funny you should say about the half lumed dial, as I really like that  Different strokes for different folks, I guess :)

    [Edit to add]

I forgot to say, I think the PVD watch would look the business on a B&R velcro strap :victory:

  5. Well, if you mean for a fantasy (non-DRSD) project, then I stand to be corrected.

But my point was that they are all poor quality parts - the type of parts that most here would encourage the owner to trash & replace asap if 1 is building a DRSD.

I would acknowledge that they are not of the quality CWP produces, but in terms of salvage, they are still parts which could certainly be re-used somehow for something. At the end of the day, hands are hands, an insert is an insert, and those parts, could easily be useable in a project of some kind, even if just as 'temporary parts' for future upgrade :)

  6. I was flabbergasted, too. But not in a good way. This is Canal Street 'quality' & just about guaranteed to get you called out. But if that is the goal, I would say it is worth every penny of its $30 price tag

Wearing any watch with 'Rolex' on the dial is a guarantee of getting called out ;):whistling: I would agree, out of the box, they're certainly nothing special, but, as J says, certainly good as parts donors :good:

  7. Mr. Goat, I'm thinking that even if a crystal has a bit too small of an ID I could possibly turn a spacer ring to "shim" out the existing case so that a more standard crystal would fit, all other things being equal.

gpl, I'm starting to like the vintage look more and more. In fact, the last 4 of the last 5 watches I've bought have been "vintage" models. Don't tell anybody, but Silix has a budget COMEX Vintage Sub on special right now for an unbelievably low price. I've just ordered a couple...

I was actually looking through his site the other day, and rather liked the look of the Rolex Celini :whistling:
