  1. Sorry I don't have a better picture to kick this off with, but I can't find my digital camera anywhere, so am left with just the camera on my iPhone...

Same watch as last night, but I put a few scuffs onto the insert just to help blend it in better to the rest of the case. Not totally hardcore vintagising, just enough to make it look like it picked up a few dings at the same time as the rest of the case

Have a great weekend, amigos :drinks:

  2. Go for it TeeJay. Always full of good ideas! :victory::thumbsupsmileyanim::D

    Thanks, R :drinks:

I was in two minds about it at first, but I really like the red quarter :) I've seen inserts sold on the Bay as 'Tudor Submariner' inserts, but with the same red/black split, as on a Coke GMT II... I'm not sure how accurate they are, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to do this, even if just temporarily, but now it's done, I'm rather liking it, and at least the insert has a little history itself, in its source :)

  3. I was looking in a drawer for an old wallet, and found a plastic Submariner I picked up in Spain a few years back. I know I've just ordered a replacement black insert for this watch, but, seeing the plastic sub, I couldn't stand the bleach-stripped insert any longer, so performed a transplant  It's not perfect, but, I actually quite like it... It certainly makes the watch 'feel complete' at last (even if not necessarily finished  ) :) I'm now actually considering doing a little gentle vintaging work on it, and keeping this insert in place, as I really like the red quarter...

    What do folks think?

  4. The quality of some Alphas falls short of some 'super reps', particularly if they've been modded. However they allow you to get a feel for the size and style and 'feel' of a watch. For example I'd been undecided about getting a Rolex Exp 1 rep, but just didn't know how it would look like on the wrist. Alpha do an almost exact copy of the Exp 1 and after purchasing it (new for under

  5. Lani,

    Im not claiming victory :wounded1:

And with regards your post above, I am prepared to accept what you have said.

I just didn't like the way you went about your previous posts to me. This is not about warfare for me. Its about opinion, and everyone has a right to their own. Telling people they (or their a.r.s.e.) is insignificant as a way to make your point just ain't cricket

Will you accept that its equally relevant for me, as the 'outsider' to believe the primary issue here is those who have suffered as a result of Asim's problems, if I accept that its more natural for you to empathise for someone who has been around a long time ? It is only natural for an unbiased person to judge a situation in its "current state" :) And perhaps we are BOTH right here ?

Im not rich either btw. I make just about enough to pay my rent and buy food for the week, with the occasional extra from time to time.

Buying a replica watch, and maybe developing it as a hobby is a big thing for me as although the amounts concerned do not compare to buying a gen watch, they are still a fair chunk of money for me. Therefore, I considered how I would feel if it had been me who had forked out my money and not got anything in return. Yes, I imposed my own value there. Doesn't mean I am wrong though.

i don't know Asim and I do genuinely feel for the guy if he has gone through personal problems. If only it had not been the case that he was still logging on to these sites whilst ignoring people I would not have felt quite so strongly about the situation. but as the OP said - if he can find time to send a watch out while his wife is in labour yet Asim is playing on websites while ignoring communications from people he has taken money from thats just not on and any unbiased observer is going to favour the OP.

Anyway, I have stated I am impressed that Asim has now fronted up and promised to resolve the situation, and I have retracted my call for his removal since he seems to be making amends, so shall we agree to shake ? :drinks:

Oh, and I will take you up on your offer and stay a while :):good:

I certainly know that feeling. The other day, I treated myself to an$8.50 bezel insert for a project watch I'm working on, and given how dire my financial circumstances are, that $8.50 might as well have been $850, as the impact financially was about the same. But, there comes a point when, no matter how dire circumstances are, you just have to treat yourself to something just as a reminder that there's more to life than worrying about money...

This is a truly awesome community, and once you've been here a while, I think you'll come to see that community in action :):good:

11 months already? Whoa. In some ways it feels longer. Like, 4 years, 11 months. :whistling:

And still, I feel I've forgotten more about replicas and people and web pages than most will ever know. Just one post here from 'Neo'. That's what this thread needs. And some more cow bell.

    Woof, woof.

Amigo, everything needs more cow bell  *insert cowbell clip here*

I got a fantastic buckle from her three years or so ago, and have worn nothing since, and get some nice comments (sometimes).

I don't see it on the site any more, but it's 2" x 3", with a layout of slightly rusty staples embedded in a dark red resin.

I'll try to take a photo later if I remember.

Reasonably cheap, too, although I did have to double the price with customs charges into the UK.

Not quite my taste, but from an artistic point of view, absolutely fantastic work :):good:

    I got this one

My current buckle for jeans is made from a piston crown from my harley

The photo's not loading for me, but I like the sound of it :)

  7. Wow TJ, I am surprised! I thought for sure this would be right up your alley! ;)

I do like the color aging is super cool though! I would agree that the damage is a little too much!

Even I have my limits :D Abuse to the case is one thing, and aging of the dial, again, no problem, but real damage like that, a little too extreme for me :D

  8. If it wasn't for the damage to the dial, I think I would really like that :) I'm all for a little 'character' in a watch case, but that kind of damage to the dial... That's going just a bit too far for my taste  The actual color combinations though, look really nice :)

  9. Well to be honest there just is a certain something about a gen that no rep has (perhaps excepting frankens). I had a seriously modded UPO and now have a gen PO and there is a definite difference and maybe it's a small percentage better interms of 'feel' than a modded rep, but that's what you pay for. The difference between winding the PO and the UPO (and mine had an ETA movement) is phenomenal.

Anyhoo I still like looking at reps online and who knows if one really grabs me I may take the plunge but it'd have to be pretty special as the ones I've got (IMHO) are top notch.

    Cheers,

    B

Thanks for the feedback :) Even though I haven't experienced a 'gen' movement, (and I can't remember how smoothly the Swiss movement in my first Sub wound  ) I did notice a definitely difference in the feel of winding the Seagull movement in my wife's DJ, compared to some of the other cheap Subs/GMTs I've owned. Definitely a more solid feeling movement, just an irony that it decided to self-destruct after falling from her wrist :pardon:

Would you say Alpha watches were worth considering as parts donors, or as watches on their own right, or do they give the feeling of something 'trying to be' something branded? (where at least the reps are trying to stick closely to the original) :)

  10. Hey that is great TJ. Didn't know you had one of those. I had many many DJ and DD reps. Speaking of bracelets, the new rep Rolesor and President braclets and clasps are surprisingly good. That feel is the whole deal with these watches. Many people that look at this things and maybe find them boring (or too small) really should feel one to see what they are all about. Of all my watches, the DJ has the most luxurious feel. Something about the foundary and the way Rolex finshes metals is just so stunning. The new reps have really captured a great deal of it I must say. And for the noobs that haven't seen the old threads, these watches wear bigger than you think. Check out this pic of my DJ on my far from small 7.5" wrist...

I'm glad you like it, bro :) It was a very recent arrival (maybe a couple of weeks ago...) but it had to go straight back because of the bracelet failure, which then contributed to the auto-wind assembly self-destructing in the watch, or we would have been happy to have just put a new bracelet on it :) Emily was really pleased with it, and it really suited her, so was pretty dissappointed when the bracelet failed, but hopefully the replacement will be a bit more durable  I really liked it myself, so will probably get one for myself when I have the spare cash, as a 'suit watch' :) I know the markers aren't quite the right shape, but I felt that the dial replicated the appearance of Rhodium very well (more so to the naked eye than a camera...) and all the markers were properly alligned, so I felt it was a good purchase (until it fell apart :black_eye: )
