  1. Fingers crossed with the deal I don't think it'll beat my Omegas for wrist time, as I think I might consider it 'too small' for extended periods of wear... (although I'd agree it certainly seems to be a very versatile watch )
  2. Easy solution, is for By-Tor to contact the website they are appearing on, explain the situation, and request the images be withdrawn from the servers with immediate (say 12-24 hr) effect. If not, then their liable for theft of intellectual property (the photographer retains lifetime rights to images they create) How stupid will the seller look, when their sale features blank spaces with little red Xs where the pictures once went, or, better yet, an image saying the photos were removed for X reason (as when Imageshack remove reported images) Very easy to resolve, next to impossible to prevent recurring...
  3. My 'best rep' in terms of quality of replication, is my Rolex Submariner, which I bought for $800 from EuroFakes. It now sits on the shelf gathering dust because I now prefer Omega watches... My 'favorite rep' is a coin-toss between the watches in my 'Casino Royale' collection: My Planet Ocean Big Size, and my 2220.80 SMP. The PO is a larger watch, the strap is more comfortable than an SS Bracelet, and it has a more 'rugged' feel to it. The SMP is more 'decorative' in terms of dial pattern and bracelet links. To be honest, I'd rather wear my faulty X-33 than my Submariner now... The only reason I keep it is sentimental value, as it was the first 'expensive watch' I bought, and was a model I'd wanted for years...
  4. Yes, that was precicely my point. Be it a replica, or a genuine item, whatever The Product might be, a Name Tag will automatically command a higher price than an Unbranded item, even if the only difference is that Name Tag. Adding a name to an item does not increase the actual quality of the item though, it simply increases it's commercial value. The point I was trying to make with watches, which I had to illustrate with cars, is that in the car world, if you spend enough money, you get an item that is not only hand-crafted (which I agree watches are), but an item which is also customized and 'tailored' to the buyer's preferences. With a watch, the only way to get a customized watch, is to go to a watch maker (or build it yourself) that is not the same as buying an expensive branded watch, and having it made just to your specifications. Indeed, would a company like Rolex or Omega even make something specifically to order for an individual purchase? If so, how 'flexible' would they be with the customer? Would they allow 100% creative freedom to make literally whatever the person wanted, or, as with the Submariners with Arabic script, would they give the buyer 'options', like when buying a regular car? Even the Panerai Slytech was not a totally unique, one-off watch for Stalone, but a case of the company taking his input, and making a production series from that, which they knew they could sell more that one unit. Where as back in 'car world', with the Aston-Martin DB9, or a Boyd Coddington hotrod, the customer gets something which is unique to them and their personal requests. (obviously the hotrods are more unique than the Aston-Martins ) As an aside, I think Boyd owns a gold Daytona. I've seen Chip Foose (who personally I rate much more highly as an artist and designer) wearing a red/black GMT Master II, and several other watches which I couldn't actually identify...
  5. Indeed, all very valid points. All I've saying, is that just because something has a 'Big brand name', that does not automatically mean that the product is worth a high price tag. I feel that high-price tags on products (be it cars, clothes, watches) should only be reserved for things which are totally customised to a client's requirements. For example, a Boyd Coddington Hot Rod is worth way more than, say, a Bugatti Veyron, purely because the entire thing has been 100% custom made for the client. (For the record, I am a huge admirer of Chip Foose' artistic abilities, and he is one of my 'business idols')
  6. I know what you mean, but, just because someone is willing to pay X amount, that doesn't mean that The Product (whatever that may be) is actually worth the associated price tag. Aston-Martin is something of a flawed comparison... The DB-9 (I believe that's the model) is individually customized to the owner's personal measurements. I remember reading about it when Hugh Grant ordered one. Rolex, as far as I know, do not make a product which is so individually tailored. Sure, they might throw some Arabic writing on the dial for wealthy patrons, but in terms of 'tailoring' the case and link sizes, they are still just standard issue components, they wouldn't make a bracelet with say five huge links, or ten tiny links (or whatever would be needed for Mr X's wrist)... Sure, they're both considered 'luxury products', but one is still way above the other. It's like comparing a hand-tailored Saville Row suit to the best off-the rack Armani, Gucci, Calvin Klein etc. Neither product is 'bad', but one is still considerably 'more deserving' of it's price tag than the other, although it could still be argued that one could have an equally nice, and equally well made hand tailored suit from Thailand, for about $20...
  7. In all fairness to her though, Cait doesn't live with us so never actually saw the watch 'in person', so it's not like she actually stole something she'd taken ownership of She isn't that mean
  8. Personally, I'd choose the Oris. The dial's 'cleaner' and easier to read.
  9. Yes, some of the watches are more expensive, particularky some of the Super Reps. For example, one dealer is selling the Breitling SFSO for twice what Andrew is selling it for. That said, more 'basic' watches like Omegas, Pams and Rolexes, the prices are certainly comparable, if not cheaper. I'd say the protection offered by CQout and LoudFrog is likely very real. If someone were to be so upset about a deal that they chose to go to litigation over it, had the site not done anything about it, they could be sued as well, as 'conspirators' and 'facilitators'. It's simply not worth their while to refuse to take action against a dealer. The dealer who I'd planned to buy theVC Overseas from, for example, had their sale pulled by the Auction Master, (and for no reason that I could see), so that's them down
  10. Personally, I'd say the complete opposite I found my fiance's apropriated HBB Aspen more comfortable than the Panerai 111... Just a matter of personal tastes, I guess
  11. No idea about that specific dealer, but I have ordered from a dealer on LoudFrog, where my 42mm Planet Oceans came from, and another dealer today who I ordered a VC Overseas from for about half the regular price. As always, I'm happy to give dealer's names privately Oh,. and as a site, LoudFrog is good, as it has a community and management in effect which keeps dealers honest, and less honest dealers are quickly named, shamed, and removed from the site. An excellent policy
  12. Thanks guys, now I won't make a complete fool of myself if someone asks what I'm wearing
  13. Thanks for the comments, guys, and indeed, once it arrives, I'll be writing a review One question I do have, is with regards the name... Is it pronounced 'Vack-er-ron- Con-sdun-teen', or 'Vash-er-ron- Con-sdun-teen' ?
  14. To be hoenst, I don't know what you mean I write many things Did you use the direct payment option? I've always done that, so that may well be why you haven't heard anything from him... I'm not sure how you'd go about cancelling an order, as the site is as binding to pay, as eBay would be... I'm sure everything will work itself out I trust Tony 100% I was joking, I just thought it was a bit mean to leave feedback saying you highly rate Tony, but then post here that you'd only consider CQout as a last resort. Given the state of deals I've seen others complain about on the forums from the 'trusted collectors', and because I don't care about 100% accuracy, because I don't want to try and pass the watches off as genuine, I'd rather stick with CQout. At least I know if there's a problem, there are structures in place to correct the issue. All there is here, is support from the other posters, which, in terms of actually making the dealer make right on a deal, doesn't actually have any effect at all...
  15. Thanks, if all goes well, I think I'll wind up with a realy nice and versatile watch. Fingers crossed the deal goes well
  16. As promised, I'm wearing the Planet Ocean Big Size. I'll be heading into town in a while to see if my 2531.80 SMP is finished at the watchsmith's. If it is, then the PO will be staying there for regulation and waterproofing, and the 2531.80 will be getting the wrist-time it's sadly been lacking, after my overzealous attempts at regulation killed it...
  17. The off-white dial I want it as a dress watch, and as most of my watches have black (or at least 'dark') dials, I wanted a real change. I've never actually owned a watch with a white dial before... The closest I've come to white, is a Constant watch I had about 15 years ago, which had a light grey dial, which had a color and texture similar to a Yachtmaster (kind of 'speckled', if that makes any sense) At first, I couldn't see what people saw in the Overseas, but it's grown on me, mostly once I realized (one of those Eureka moments) that the actual markers were similar to those of a Planet Ocean, which is my favorite watch
  18. So I was going to order a VC Overseas from a dealer I'd used before last year, but when I went to make the purchase today, the sale had closed. Not one to be beaten, I scoured the web untill I found something which suited my needs, and appealed to my wallet. I can't say any more now, as obviously the transaction has just gone through. I shall report the success or failure of my purchase when it arrives. Although it was not described thus in the sale, please allow 28 days for an update (I'm hoping it will be much sooner than that )
  19. And yet you left this feedback for Tony only a few days ago... Trying to 'hide the shame' of secretly being a CQout buyer?
  20. The top chrono pusher sets the 9 subdial, which counts 7 movements/day of the week. The bottom pusher sets the 3 subdial, which counts the days in the month. The 6 subdial keeps a 24 hour sweep. Once the subdials are set, they adjust themselves automatically. The case size is 44mm The case is stainless steel with a white coating (possibly ceramic paint) The lettering on the back of the case identifies the watch as all stainless. Indeed, it's not ceramic, but, for the price, the watch is effectively disposeable, and someone could wear one, chuck it away if it got scuffed up, and just buy a new one
  21. If I could get a strap in that Vacchetta Sabbia coloring for my Daytona, I'd be one happy camper
  22. Go for the Planet Ocean It's large and clear, yet elegant and streamlined. Oh, and some British guy named 'James' wore one in Madagascar Giving the SFSO to your brother would be an awesome gesture
