  1. The main reason I have X watch on my wrist is because I like the style.

    Same here :)

i hate this type of discussions

i told it many time and will say it again:

PLEASE DON`T COMPARE PRICES FROM REPLICAS WITH PRICES FROM GENUINE WATCHES

    this is absolute unfair.

do you know why a gen watch cost $4.000? here are nearly 40% for marketing costs, 10% for development, 10% for QC, 10% aftersale service etc etc etc... and a watch factory in Swiss has MUCH MORE costs as a replica factory in China.

it is easy to copy a finished product... it is easy to sell a replica. No marketing costs, no costs for development, no costs for QC, no costs for after sale service and i factory in china will cost less money...

it is totaly UNFAIR to copy a product and sell replicas... that

  2. Got the point, and I see your reasons.

Just, when I recommend a dealer I'm doing it on an individual basis, not in comparison with other possible dealers. 100% of my transactions with Tony were flawless, therefore I left positive feedbacks for him. Still, his prices are often higher then those of 'our' collectors. And I had first-hand experiences on how great is the after-buy service by Josh, Andrew and Narikaa, so I'll stick to them when the price is about the same (or even just a little higher).

I also have doubts about what protection cqOut gives the buyer. To me, it looks more like just a place to get in contact with the dealers.

Yes, some of the watches are more expensive, particularky some of the Super Reps. For example, one dealer is selling the Breitling SFSO for twice what Andrew is selling it for. That said, more 'basic' watches like Omegas, Pams and Rolexes, the prices are certainly comparable, if not cheaper.

I'd say the protection offered by CQout and LoudFrog is likely very real. If someone were to be so upset about a deal that they chose to go to litigation over it, had the site not done anything about it, they could be sued as well, as 'conspirators' and 'facilitators'. It's simply not worth their while to refuse to take action against a dealer. The dealer who I'd planned to buy theVC Overseas from, for example, had their sale pulled by the Auction Master, (and for no reason that I could see), so that's them down

  3. I thought exactly the same thing. They feel good on one's arm, and are not bulky in the least. Hublots look like they're trouble.

Personally, I'd say the complete opposite :D I found my fiance's apropriated HBB Aspen more comfortable than the Panerai 111... Just a matter of personal tastes, I guess :)

  4. Check this out:

    http://www.loudfrog.com/seller.aspx?UserID=22005

Any opinions? This guy seems to have about the same watches all the dealers here offer, for sometimes a lower price. Not clear what movements though, most likely asian.

Not really into buying from him, just wanted to point the website out.

No idea about that specific dealer, but I have ordered from a dealer on LoudFrog, where my 42mm Planet Oceans came from, and another dealer today who I ordered a VC Overseas from for about half the regular price.

As always, I'm happy to give dealer's names privately :)

Oh,. and as a site, LoudFrog is good, as it has a community and management in effect which keeps dealers honest, and less honest dealers are quickly named, shamed, and removed from the site. An excellent policy :)

  5. :p

TeeJay, loved what you wrote elsewhere, if you know what I mean. ;)

To be hoenst, I don't know what you mean :D I write many things :D

And actually I haven't been able to get a peep out of Tony YET, so no payment has been effected. If he doesn't answer soon, rolli or one of the other members I've contacted with bids, will get my money...

Did you use the direct payment option? I've always done that, so that may well be why you haven't heard anything from him... I'm not sure how you'd go about cancelling an order, as the site is as binding to pay, as eBay would be... I'm sure everything will work itself out :) I trust Tony 100%

I hate quoting myself, but I never made any attempts to keep it secret:

    -------------------

Eheu! Credebam canem in mensa latrare, atque Metellam in via stare...

I was joking, I just thought it was a bit mean to leave feedback saying you highly rate Tony, but then post here that you'd only consider CQout as a last resort. Given the state of deals I've seen others complain about on the forums from the 'trusted collectors', and because I don't care about 100% accuracy, because I don't want to try and pass the watches off as genuine, I'd rather stick with CQout. At least I know if there's a problem, there are structures in place to correct the issue. All there is here, is support from the other posters, which, in terms of actually making the dealer make right on a deal, doesn't actually have any effect at all...

    :)

  6. The Overseas is by far one of my favorite reps. It works with both dress and casual situations. I have a black Flavor Flav modded one and a white dial version as well, just awaiting the AR coating run for that. Most people don't know what it is, but I always get compliments due to the unique bracelet.

Good luck with it, I think you'll really enjoy it.

Thanks, if all goes well, I think I'll wind up with a realy nice and versatile watch. Fingers crossed the deal goes well :)

  7. As promised, I'm wearing the Planet Ocean Big Size. I'll be heading into town in a while to see if my 2531.80 SMP is finished at the watchsmith's. If it is, then the PO will be staying there for regulation and waterproofing, and the 2531.80 will be getting the wrist-time it's sadly been lacking, after my overzealous attempts at regulation killed it...

  8. Hi TJ,

    which colour ?

The VC is one of my favorite reps. :)

The off-white dial :) I want it as a dress watch, and as most of my watches have black (or at least 'dark') dials, I wanted a real change. I've never actually owned a watch with a white dial before... The closest I've come to white, is a Constant watch I had about 15 years ago, which had a light grey dial, which had a color and texture similar to a Yachtmaster (kind of 'speckled', if that makes any sense)

At first, I couldn't see what people saw in the Overseas, but it's grown on me, mostly once I realized (one of those Eureka moments) that the actual markers were similar to those of a Planet Ocean, which is my favorite watch :)

  9. So I was going to order a VC Overseas from a dealer I'd used before last year, but when I went to make the purchase today, the sale had closed. Not one to be beaten, I scoured the web untill I found something which suited my needs, and appealed to my wallet. I can't say any more now, as obviously the transaction has just gone through. I shall report the success or failure of my purchase when it arrives. Although it was not described thus in the sale, please allow 28 days for an update :D (I'm hoping it will be much sooner than that :D )

  10. I exensively check all cqOut dealers on a regular time basis, and I'll stick to our collectors.

I bought (and I will buy again) from cqOut only in two cases:

1 - Items sold out or not available anymore from our collectors.

    2 - Items unbelievably cheap.

About the latter ones, often those items unbelievably cheap are also unbelievably bad.

But occasionally it comes out a good deal -- what the heck, we are rep geeks and we are able to make sensate judgements on what is worth and what is not!

Anyway, coeteris paribus, 80% of the items are less expensive from our collecors than from cqOut.

And yet you left this feedback for Tony only a few days ago...

This was my 5th purchase from Tony, and always with 100% satisfaction. Items exactly as described, perfectly working, prompt and friendly communications, very fast and safe shipping. Cannot recommend anyone more than Tony.

Trying to 'hide the shame' of secretly being a CQout buyer? ;)

  11. What do the two chrono pusher buttons do?

What is the case size? 44mm or 41mm?

What is the case made from? It can't be real ceramic for that price???

The top chrono pusher sets the 9 subdial, which counts 7 movements/day of the week. The bottom pusher sets the 3 subdial, which counts the days in the month. The 6 subdial keeps a 24 hour sweep. Once the subdials are set, they adjust themselves automatically.

    The case size is 44mm

The case is stainless steel with a white coating (possibly ceramic paint) The lettering on the back of the case identifies the watch as all stainless. Indeed, it's not ceramic, but, for the price, the watch is effectively disposeable, and someone could wear one, chuck it away if it got scuffed up, and just buy a new one :)

  12. everyone will have differing opinions about who makes the best straps. strapmasters (particularly their XaMas line) is generally regarded as being one of the best, along with dirk, who actually just re-entered the strap selling scene (see his post here on paneristi) -- too bad his new buckles have the ugly dirk cursive writing engraved on them.

part of the appeal of the PAV 91 was that it was one of the original hides that was used to make straps for genuine panerai watches back in 1993 (which was the beginning of the "rebirth" of the brand before the pre-vendome acquisition of panerai in 1997).

    deltatahoe

If I could get a strap in that Vacchetta Sabbia coloring for my Daytona, I'd be one happy camper :D

  13. Still loving my SFSO, but i'm considering giving it to my younger brother as hes in love with it, and then i'll move into the ETA version of the same watch, or give into the a uPO

    280716-467.jpg

Go for the Planet Ocean :thumbsupsmileyanim: It's large and clear, yet elegant and streamlined. Oh, and some British guy named 'James' wore one in Madagascar :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Giving the SFSO to your brother would be an awesome gesture :)

  14. I've heard he's alright.

Anyhow, stick to our collectors instead.

With them, atleast you know you get what you're paying for.

    Now that is funny :thumbsupsmileyanim::thumbsupsmileyanim::thumbsupsmileyanim:

With dealers here, there is absolutely no 'safety net' for purchasses, other than the support of other posters. Sure, the watches on CQout might not be in the Super Rep league, but at least there is an overall body which ensures good conduct.

    For example.

Panerai 111. CQout purchase. Had a power reserve of about 1 hour. I sent a message to the dealer, and within 8 hours (overnight) had a response which included the return address, and a "That's no problem" response to the request to swap the watch for something totally different.

Omega X-33. 'Trusted Dealer' purchase. Faulty analogue movement. Caseback missing a faux-screw, so impossible for it to have been QCd. Have been trading emails for two weeks now trying to get the issue resolved. Dealer has finally agreed to try to get me a new movement to be shipped out.

I think that pretty much speaks for itself :)

  15. Probably only about 80% accurate to the gen watch, but it is not going to be given any real scrutiny by people who know anything about watches (other than they tell the time), so that's not a problem. Doesn't have the date window, which I felt was a 'design after-thought', so a cleaner looking dial than the gen watch. '3' Subdial is an incremental day counter, '6' Subdial runs a 24 sweep, but the '9' Subdial appears do do nothing, and tracks 7 points (presumeably days) but anti-clockwise. A 24 hour examination reveals if the dials move by themselves... Aesthetically, a nice watch, but I still don't understand why people go nuts over the Big Bang.

    280479-654.jpg

Originally purchassed for my sister-in-law's 15th birthday later in the year, I showed it to my fiance when it arrived, she decided she was having it for herself, and it hasn't been off her wrist since. Looks like I'll be ordering a new one for Cait's birthday...

    The watch was

  16. O no, that's a major bummer :( .

So are you replacing it for the VC after all or would it be another PAM? Wouldn't loose you from the PAM front, hahaha :)

By the way, if you would choose another PAM again you might consider the titanium/antracite PAM089. This is a contemporary model with working GMT. Extra benefit for you would be that the buckle is smaller than on the oversized Historic models ;) If you do, you have to ask for the updated dial with the minute marker @9 (there was a thread with nice pics a few days ago).

These things happen, and the dealer has been cool about an exchange, so I'm happy.

I'm still ordering the VC tomorrow as planned, but from a different dealer, as my dealer's supplier couldn't get hold of the model I wanted. I'm sending the Pam back to be replaced with an Omega Aqua Terra with black dial.(which I have plans to customize) In all honesty, as much as I can appreciate the Pams, they just aren't my cup of tea. The size doesn't bother me, as I love my Planet Ocean Big Size, but the design is just so 'clumsy' in comparison to the Omega. I'll probably get another Pam at some point in the future, just for 'collection diversity', but at the moment, I'm taking this as a sign to avoid them for a while... Thanks for the model suggestion, I'll keep it in mind for future reference. :)

  17. Hi all, I just received my 111H from Davidsen and it looks beautiful. I'm going to go out now and pick up a tiny screwdriver to play with some straps and take some pictures for you guys.

Anyhow, which way do I wind the crown for power?

You wind the crown away from yourself, or, if looked at from the crown guard side, clockwise :)
