Ahh, that makes sense. I'm not one for impulse buys either. These are the watches that are my immediate 'must haves' Omega Planet Ocean 45mm, Omega Aqua Terra (with Planet Ocean hands) Panerai Luminor Marina Rolex GMT Submariner (project built from 3 watches) Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6200 (Built from Submariner left over from GMTSub project) As Gifts: Chanel j12 White (mother in law) Hublot Big Bang Aspen (fiance) Panerai Luminor Marina (father in law) Even though my Omega 2531.80 project watch was the first project I started on, I'm not as enthused about the project as I was, and that's lower down on my 'must do' list.

Thanks for the link, it's interesting to compare the two watches. I have to admit, I actually prefer the rep as all the subdials have a function, and there isn't a date window, whereas on the gen, the '3' subdial is blank, and the date window looks like an 'afterthought' rather than a considered part of the original design... On the gen's side however, the material of the case is much finer quality, and those 'screws' on the bezel are more interesting than the regular screws on the rep... Gotcha This is the item in question: White BB I'm sure it's probably 100% fantasy, but, my fiance's not a watch fanatic, so that wouldn't matter to her. As for the Chanel J12, she's already got one of those, although it's now custom fit onto a white leather cuff-style strap

I'm planning on getting my fiance one, and wondered if it was an offered model, or if it's 100% fantasy. Wouldn't matter if it is fantasy, because she likes how it looks, but I was just curious. Also, how is the brand name pronounced? I'm guessing it's not Hub - Lot, and wondered if it was Who Blow, or something entirely different like Hub Blow or Whob Lot?

I think the best answer has already been given: I have six more definite watch purchasses planned, (Three of those are as parts donors for my planned GMT Submariner project, one is a donor for my 2531.80 project) There are also a couple of watches I'm thinking about getting as well. And three I need to get as gifts. Having an allocated budged is okay, it's even okay to go 'over budget' if the money to do so is still available, so I'd echo Teddy's statement: Only spend what you can truly afford to spend, and you won't go wrong

The prices are definitely good, I was just a tad concerned about the attitude displayed in the FAQ... By choice, I really want to order this strap for the Aqua Terra: But, the site says that they won't export them outside the US as it's an Exotic Animal...

Hey, that's cool, I was just making a joke. I know that there are people who still choose to buy from Andrew and Joshua, I just find it amusing that they are people's 'automatic choice' when it comes to dealer, despite all that has gone in the past, and because Silix has the 22mm PO strap available now. As R11co said, other than a single letter on the product code, it is identical to the gen (other than dust attraction, perhaps) so it seems amusing that people would rather wait for X dealer when Y dealer already has the product they're after

I might be buying a few straps, depending on how some new contracts work out, which would give me a little extra spending money, and thought I might as well get them from Ofrei. I've been through the site before, but never really paid too much heed to the FAQ instructions, and to be honest, didn't like what I read. Comments like "too busy to check inventory" and "Take your problems elsewhere" and "Get your watchman to order the specific part" made me wonder if they're actually worth dealing with at all. That's certainly not an attitude I've come to expect from American businesses, and certainly not one I'd expect from one that is an authorized Omega parts distributer. I know people here use them all the time, so just wanted to check on what they're actually like to do business with. Are their products worth dealing with that kind of attitude, or is it just as easy to look elsewhere?

I had a hunch that it was one of the letters that had been changed, but couldn't quite remember, so thought best to mention that it was the 3 letter code Funny things, springbars... I was planning on changing the strap on a watch my mother in law bought me for christmas a few years back, and the first bar came out no problem, but the second one wasn't moving, and in the end, I had to prize it off with a jeweller's screwdriver, and it turned out that the bar was too long, so the sprung sections were jammed shut without room to compress for removal... Oh well, a new springbar shouldn't be too expensive. Chances are I'll be getting one of Jay's PO straps soon, I'll be most interested to see how it fits on the 'junk' PO everyone's been hating on

Maxi-Dial refers to the size of the white luminous markers. If you look at the 50th Anniversary submariner with the green bezel (refered to as an LV Sub), and compare that to a standard black submariner, you will see that the luminous markers on the 50th are larger. I forget if it is the Rolex Explorer II or the Rolex GMT Master II that also has the Maxi-Dial, but I think that the Rolex Sea-Dweller also has it. As pointed out, this is interesting as it is an historical anomoly. Either way, you have a very nice watch there, it is only other 'Rolex Buffs' who would spot these details as signs it was not genuine. The average schmoe on the street wouldn't have a clue.

Oh dear... Something I thought was interesting in the article, was that he was allowed to keep the watch he was wearing. Surely a counterfeit is a counterfeit, so should've been confiscated anyway... Personally, if I was the guy, I'd argue that it was a violation of his 4th Amendment rights:

Model numbers aren't really something I actually say aloud much, but when I do, I tend to break it down, ie 21531.80 would be said Twenty five thirty one, eighty. As for Submariner, I've always said Sub-Ma-Rin-uh (with the 'ma' a very clipped sound, as in 'Marin County', not drawn out, as if someone was calling their mother 'Ma')

What a surprise, a dealer trying to encourage someone to spend money with them rather than a competitor... Yes, technically, there is a mistake, in that I seem to remember that the three letters of the manufacturing code were changed. As far as I know, and not counting dust-collection, that was the only mistake with them. As R11co said:

Again, some of the 'trusted collectors', are really not that trustworthy, and this forum is not supposed to have any relationship with dealers. It is only supposed to advise, not endorse... As I said, I appreciate the points being made, but, as I said, 100% accuracy is not a concern to me, there are dealers here I simply do not trust, and at present, price is a prime factor, so I am seeing precicely what is available for lower prices from other dealers. Ultimately, unless people are prepared to take chances on alternative dealers, then no one is ever going to know any different.

I'd agree with that. The only watch that's been called out was my Submariner, and that was just a snooty proprietor making a lucky guess, as the watch has passed as genuine with an experienced watchsmith (until he removed the back) Fact of the matter is, at 28, with shoulder-length blonde hair, a beard, and a pretty casual dress-code, I don't look like the kind of person that would be able to afford a gen Submariner. If I were to put on a suit, cut my hair and shave my beard, then I probably could pull one off, but only with people who didn't know me personally. If I choose to look Corporate Smart, then I look the part, but, as I don't work in an office, then I've been able to be more 'relaxed' about my appearance (Not scruffy though, I cannot STAND scruffy filthy people, shuffling around like hobos...) I think having put the watch on, first a NATO, and now a distressed leather strap, the watch does not look 'box fresh', and anyone who cared to notice would likely believe it was something inherited, or picked up as 'watch only', and thrown on a cheap strap. When I get my SMP through (and my 45mm PO) then those would look entirely plausible to my lifestyle and appearance, and the Submariner will be relegated to 'dress duty'. I'll give it about five years, and then I'll be able to plausibly wear it as an everyday watch To answer the topic, if someone was to ask if the watch was genuine, I would say it was a rep. If someone wants to make other assumptions, then that's up to them
