  1. Except for the titanium and brushed models I put a soft cloth over the crown and then wind. Stops rough hands from scratching the crown gaurd or the bezel. TimeShare
  2. How big is too big? I can end this, how about 55mm (not including the Big Pilot Like Crown). The watch? A Revue Thommen B-Uhr. Looks like a big pilot watch but is the actual size used by the WWII pilots which is 55mm (minus the crown) and in the war the original was meant to be worn on the outside of a flight jacket or straped to your leg. I wear the watch fairly often and have learned that watch size is relative. If you wear a big watch for a while it becomes normal and you don't notice it. Summary - watch size is relative. Like Gilles Villenueve's (race driver) wife (JoAnne) stated in an interview "Speed is relative, if you drive fast regularily it does not seem fast...........same with watches, if you wear big, it does not seem Big. So I am off to drive fast wearing a BIG watch, Take care. TimeShare P.S want to see the watch? Check German E-bay, I bought it there and I still see them occasionally.
  3. I am hearing from a knowledgable source that there is a IWC Big Pilot out or about to come out with an ETA movement. Anyone else know anything about this watch? TimeSHare
  4. Not a bad looking rep of the Juan Pablo but it has one major flaw. The strap should have white stitching. Only the blue faced model (shown on your post has matching black/blue stitching). The black dial and white dialed Juan AP's have white stitching. Joshua has a good rep of this watch but it has a rubber strap not the leather strap with white criss/cross stitching like the OEM. TimeShare
  5. I thought the movement was better until yesterday when my rarely worn Arktos decided to no longer be handwound!! Watch works but crown will not wind in 1st position!! TimeShare
  6. I got my wife a Bvlgari and an Omega Seamster (ladies model) and she seems to prefer the Omega. If your sister is a big girl you could get her a Pam 187 or a Breitling for Bentley (the big one not the GT which is for "little Girly Men") TimeShare
  7. I have found that I am getting a black graphite like powers on my wrist when I wear the 48mm Breitling Bentley. It appears to be coming from the metal bracelet, anyone else having the same problem? TimeShare
  8. Even on the Panerai Boards there is a love/hate relationship with the white Pams. I have even read a few Panersiti making reference to white Pams being for there wives only. I have the Pam 113 and it looks nice on an SS bracelet but I think it is fair to say that the white dial models are not as popular as the black dial models. TimeShare
  9. No pictures but I have seen photos of Harrison Ford, The "Bamm" chef guy, and Richard Gere with Breitling watches. Breitling is popular with racers also, like Derek Bell (who claimed in an OP watch article to have given the idea for the Breitling for Bentley watch to a high ranking Breitling Official in a hospitality suite at the 24 Hours of LeMans a number of years ago), J.J. Lehto and Alexander Wurz. I believe that I have even seen pictures of John Travolta wearing breitling long before he actual became a spokesman!! TimeShare
  10. #1 spot for watches? Try an autorace, not sure about NASCAR but at a Formula 1, ChampCar, ALMS, FIA GT race I am always amazed by the watches, especially if you get into the hospitality suites. The best venue for wathces, based on my experience is Laguna Seca (California, outside of Carmel). I was in the top suite there for an FIA GT races and a ALMS races and was amazed at the watches, one support race was the Lamborgini Series, and each of the participants appeared to be wearing a Daytona. I guess you should expect this if you have millions to ship a Lamborgini around the world for weekend racing!! Quite a few Champcar drivers wear top end watches, Panerai seems popular and are worn by Jimmy Vasser and a few others!! Go for the watches and watch some racing also!! TimeShare
  11. The case is hard to measure as it has a bit on the non-crown side that juts out but my measurement has it at 48.7 - 48.9m minus the crown which I believe is the size of the real one. TimeShare
  12. Interested to see the reaction to the new Breitling Bentley. If anyone has one yet, please post some pictures and your impressions!! TimeShare
  13. Without a doubt the Asian 7750 has had issues, perhaps in the past. I have watches that have arrived with that movement that did not work out of the box, stopped a few days after getting the watch or ended up with unaligned hands. Recently I have broken my rule of only buying Swiss 7750's with the Arktos from EL and all has been well for now.........time will tell!!! For the frustration factor I still think it is better to go Swiss!!! TimeShare
  14. Calgary is a great City to live in, as is Edmonton. Both have there positives and negatives. I have lived in both although it was the mid-80's when I last lived in Calgary and their 14% annual growth rate has really changed the size and character of the City. I find that not too many Albertan's know or buy much in the way of high end watches. Not as much of a statement here as in other parts of the word. Take Panerai, it means nothing to people here, it just a big watch and you get the "wall clock" or "hockey puck" on your wrist comments but 99.999% know nothing about the brand. The status symbols in Alberta are homes, BIG SUV or pick-up trucks (God help us!!). Those Albertan's who do buy high end watches seem to go for Rolex and sometimes Breitling as others know the brands - IWC, Panerai, mean nothing here. I have seen folks with expensive trucks and cars get out dressed well but wearing timex or some other cheap watch!! The only place you will probably see high end watches in large supply is on the golf course in Calgary and chances are they are members of the Calgary Flames (sorry could not resist!!)!! TimeShare
  15. The IWC Big Pilot rep above is as good as they get for now. Another alternative with a better feel and weight is the Poljot Aviator which has the same case size and crown as the IWC but the dial is very different and the illumination is weak. By the way, the illumination on the IWC shown in the post above is very good. TimeShare
  16. One reason why you should choose the Asian 7750 - SMOOTH SECOND HAND OPERATION: - The Asian 21 movement in a PAM circular second hand is often jerky as evident in the Pam 90 POwer Reserve as observed by posts on this and other Boards. - The Asian 7750 PAM circular second hand is very smooth and not jerky, see Arktos. This is the best reason to pick the 7750!! TimeShare
  17. "Then there was this Daytona with correct subdial spacing (and running seconds at 6'o'clock) but completely faux, non-working chrono and non-responding pushers. What do I think? I wouldn't mind getting a faux chrono and non-working pushers if the watch looks great and the price was reasonable. " Answer: I have a faux Chrono Black Dial Daytona with silver dials that is ideal. I have had it for close to 3 years and while I don't wear any replica that much (I have over 80 watches, yes I know I have a problem) the watch has been flawless and the dial is dead-on accurate. It is one of the few watches I would go into a real dealer with and compare to the original. In fact, I have done this and compared the watch to the real SS Black Daytona and there was no visible difference. Even the dealer who looked at the watch on my wrist could not tell a difference and was sticking to me like glue ("I smell a commission"). I even took the watch to the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and was lucky enough to get into the Rolex Hospitality suite and while I could see folks looking at the watch no one could tell, not even the Rolex folks. The other nice thing about these Faux Chrono watches with a running constant second hand at 6 is that the pushers screw down so there is less chance that someone will run the chronograph if you show them the watch. Anyway, my point in this reply is that the 7750 has a dial spacing problem (not to mention the movement) and this faux chrono minimizes mechanical problems, while maximizing the accuracy of the dial!! Mine was not cheap but less than a problematic 7750!! TimeShare
  18. According to the Officine Panerai First Aid Kit (very expensive so don't ask where to get it) there are 2 Loctite products used on Panerai watches. The Kit advises as follows: Loctite 243 - For the 2 crown screws - one drop on an oil pike in each hole on the threads. Loctite 222 - For the Panerai Deploy screw and for the screws that attached the strap to the case (CAUTION: I would not suggest using Loctite 222 for these items unless you are darn sure you will not be taking them out, for changing straps. To me 222 for these functions is overkill as they are hard to remove). I would, however, strongly recommend using the Loctite 243 on the crown screws as you will rarely have to remove the screws and they are hard to locate. The first thing I do with any Panerai watch (real or replica) is remove the crown screws and do the Loctite 243 for peace of mind. AS with any Loctite product please remember.................a little goes a long way don't go overboard with the amounts used. If you send your Panerai for service remember to advise the repair person that you have used Loctite as many use low heat to loosen the loctite screws. TimeShare
  19. My PAM 90 had the same problem and the seller (probably the same seller as for yours as I got the "shake it" comment also) exchanged it and the replacement did the exact same thing. Bottom line.....nice looking watch but a cheap movement in a not so inexpensive watch for an aisan movement. It is too late for me but I would just ask for a refund!! TimeShare
