  1. The Kyoto Treaty is not worth the paper it's written on. At least the U.S. had the good sense not to give in to the imbecility of its terms and the moral blackmail of the politically correct. As usual, we'll do it ourselves, our way, and better. In the meantime, can anyone name even one country that is even remotely close to meeting any of the terms of the treaty? By the way, I'm starting a "We Pledge Not To Be Mean To Adorable Helpless Little Puppies On Christmas Day" Treaty that I hope all the RWG members will sign. I mean, how could anyone refuse? Unfortunately, someone will always screw the pooch, so to speak, but's that's ok, as long as you've signed the petition: we all know your heart is in the right place. After all, it's your sentiments that count, not your actions. Sukkas.
  2. The Unitarians and of course, The Lutherans. The ugliness is spreading.... http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2005/...eek_lutefi.html
  3. I dunno... How about, Time To Kill? Do I get a free watch?
  4. Look, the Moe-Bear incident is not TeeJay's fault. It's not even connected to his conception of Islam. Get it?
  5. Not generally known, but competing schools of Buddhist thought would regularly and literally bash each other's brains out in Tibet over totally irrelevant questions of doctrine. Maybe it was just a way of staying warm up there, which might explain why Buddhism never became particularly militant in the warmer climes of the Asian countries in which it implanted itself...
  6. There's something terribly sad about trying to justify one's beliefs, particularly when they touch on such a private sphere as faith, revelation and/or mystical experience. I consider myself a "Buddhist" because somewhere along the line I decided that it was a philosophy - rather than a religion - that I felt the most comfortable with: it made sense, and part of that sense was the Buddhist belief that "the way is the way" - that any - or no - religion, philosophy or even any particular effort is needed to achieve Salvation. The particular kicker is that for Buddhists of the brighter variety, we're already saved, but basically just too stupid to realize it. At its very purest level, any religion is a marvellous and shining thing. For that matter, so is a flower or Ford Edsel, but unlike religion, they just won't go the distance. Those touched by this understanding are forever transformed - in the best possible way - even if the remainder of their lives may be as ordinary as anyone else's. Illumination is not like winning at one of the million-dollar Vegas slots: it's all about getting back to work and doing the best you can for yourself and others (the same, really) in this shitty/perfect sphere of reality that we inhabit - while trying not to totally forget that ultimate moment of enlightenment that briefly flashed through your besotted neurons. TeeJay should have nothing to justify: from what he's said - despite being drawn into impossible discussions of the semantics and logic of his choices - he's on the right road: the one he's chosen. For reasons that no one will ever know - and which should never have to be explained - it happens to be called Islam. Again, and from what he's said, I have no doubt that his experience was life-changing, life-affirming, powerful and authentic. Experiences such as that - if I may be presumptuous enough to assume that that was what he was trying to convey - are autonomous and sufficent unto themselves. They make life worth living, and are the diametrical opposite of the death-cults that any religious or political system can be turned into. Every cycle of history brings its high tide of fanatics, psychopaths and assorted true believers whose ideas of faith and belief are ultimately destructive: by its fruits shall ye know the tree. Personally, and judging from what he's said and what he's attempting to accomplish, I'd rather have Teejay in my corner in my hour of need - and probably during much less dramatic moments as well - than many of the people who are trying to question his faith in himself and the path he's chosen.
  7. I don't know about Allah, but for me, the definitive proof of God's existence would be if she removed that damned ring from her nose:
  8. Riots and demonstrations expected - and no one even knows the name of this mysterious visitor:
  9. Can we have a Colombophilia thread?
  10. BREAKING NEWS Oh my God! The crazy focker has hijacked a plane and is flying to the White House! Looks like they forced him down. Whew! That was a close one... Homeland Security, the NSA and the CIA have taken out the embedded video. Luckily, I saved the direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTDuGaTRiJU Update: MoeBear to Bush: "I demand political asylum!"
  11. Uhh... could it have been the Hot-Pants and not the cross?
  12. Yes indeed, it looks like you did! I thought you knew by now that I never read anyone's posts except my own. And sometimes not even my own. Anyway, and like I said, how the hell was she supposed to know? They should have named it Focktard or perhaps Assh-hat: end of story, and no forty lashes
  13. Everyone here keeps saying that 'she' (the teacher) was the one who named the teddybear. I have read elsewhere - on a news forum - that she asked the class to name it. Meaning the idea came from the kids themselves. If this was true, how the hell was she to know what she was setting herself up for?
  14. That's a strange coincidence: I often wonder about the UFOs flying around the World Trade Center towers before they came down. Cripes, C-Stone, watcha been smoking?
  15. Perhaps the answer is to be found in the Alabama State Police 'Ten-Code' system of abbreviations for radio calls: 10-10: Out of Service
  16. Nice Avedon pic by the way...

  18. Pug, George Washington used to own slaves; Prince Charles jerked off to pictures of Camilia Horseface; certain members of this very forum have killed people for both good and bad reasons. I myself have repeatedly refused to purchase Girl Scout Cookies. Time passes, situations change, everything moves on. RWG1 is neither run nor resembles the way it was two years ago. At present, it fulfills a specific function. It is not perfect, but for some people, neither is RWG2. Certain members on both forums are sincerely trying to do their best and are worthy of our respect. As much as I'd like to see it, I'm realistic enough to know that an attitude of peace and love and can't we all just get along ranges from naive to stupid to impossible. On the other hand, my hackles go up when I see people repeating the same old toothless saws, as if repeating them somehow validates realities which are no longer real. But yes, johnnyboy is still there, posting his phucked-up half-page bandwidth-eating god-only-knows-where-he-finds-them photos. And just as regularly, ol' TTK checks in just to let dems, clive and anyone else who's listening know what idiots they are just for being there, in the event that they've been too busy actually helping noobies to have remembered his last insulting message. (Parenthetically, I wonder when The Zigmeister - who recently spoke of his friendship with jf - is going to figure out that jean-francois the erstwhile Canadian tennis ace, RWG1 moderator and financial benefactor, is the very same johnnyboy/jf that several of Zig's other forum pals have been busy ridiculizing for years... Ships of fools, imperfect beings seeking perfection in fake watches, slinging mud at each other like bottom-feeders in some minor circle of hell as they open and re-open half-forgotten wounds which have little to do with anything anymore, again, again, and again... Welcome to the Bleedin' Overlook Hotel, where nothing is ever forgotten, pardoned or even understood, forever, and ever, and ever... "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." - Friedrich Nietzsche
  19. Hell, if you want to count beans, then let's get it on. Money lost on the RWG1 watch fiasco versus all the money lost through the various scammers and amateur watchsmithies here. We'll add it all up right down to the very penny, and whoever is right gets to stay here, while the loser gets exiled to RWG1. Or something like that. Yawn.
  20. Quietly and patiently, there's a hellova lot of good info and advice being given over there - principally to noobs - which avoids cluttering up this forum with even more of the same old crappy issues and questions that most of us have seen more times than we'd care to remember. Not high-profile (and high-maintenance) like RWG2, RWG1 goes its own way, pretty much indifferent to the venom and ridiculization aimed at it by those who find it necessary to define their own existence in terms of belittling others. There's more going on there than on much more 'respectable' forums like TRC, but RWG1 suffers from an image problem fuelled by ancient feuds that a handfull of members here can't seem to get over. Personally, I barely give a [censored] one way or another - I've no particular vested interest in anyone or anything either here or there, other than occasionally lobbing a rock into the stagnant waters of the complacent and self-congratulatory group-think that has become one of stultifying aspects of RWG2. Incidentally, it would be interesting to see how many of our current members were guided here by some of the dedicated RWG1 members, after learning the 'ABCs' of rep watch collecting.... If they possess either the balls or the honesty to admit it, of course.
  21. Thanks, POTR. I know the feeling.
  22. I see the exact same attitude in many of my private engineering school students as opposed to those enrolled in the pubic universities. There is a word for it: entitlement. Usually no way to fight it, especially as an adjunct. One possible solution: give everyone a passing mark and console yourself with the hope that some of these cretins will be legally responsible for the mistakes they'll be making on the job, once out in the real world.
  23. Another unfortunate example of why I no longer choose to spend much time here.
  24. Done.
  25. Very nice find, Vicky....and very refreshing change from the same old/same old....
