  1. Knowing Pugwash, you might have to buy a brewery....
  2. Nanuq - What a Blast From the Past! On behalf of myself and all the RWG 'old timers' (the only ones who'll 'get it'): thank you, man..... :-)
  3. ryyannon, JOESL8, john, John Paul, JOHN PERCY, johnboy777, Johnkaz, johnp, ryyannon, jojo12, JoJo35, Jonathan, ryyannon, torontowatches, Torques, torresp, ryyannon..... That's better. Seen CrazySaleMan around?
  4. I'm hurt, Bob. I really am. Turn your fax machine on - I'm sending back my WristWrapRollie.
  5. Wow, down memory lane with RWG..... Since some of us are 'coming out', I have to admit that this Emerich Meerson quartz was my daily beater for twenty years (before discovering this very forum). At the time, it was a very elegant French brand with an exclusive boutique in Saint-Germain-des-Pres - a class act at reasonable prices. The pic is of the model I own, but not my actual watch - which is in almost like-new condition and runs perfectly. The poor thing hasn't been getting any wrist-time since the discovery of rep Pateks and the Pannies - which make it look very small indeed. I'm too lazy to measure it at the moment, but it can't be more than 37mm - very much like men's watches in the early twentieth century.* I recently put a new strap on it, and I have to admit that it's still a lovely little piece.... *little indeed - I just measured it and it's an incredible 30mms! Next to the Pannies it looks like a children's watch. Even without the Pannie, it still looks like a children's watch..... But know what? I still love it.
  6. It's hard to resist paraphrasing Groucho Marx and saying something like 'I wouldn't want to meet anyone interested in meeting me' but the truth is that it's quite the opposite. I'm honored by the mention given to my humble person by the several members who did, and I'd like to take the occasion to tell them that the interest (and pleasure) is entirely reciprocal :-)
  7. 40+ years old and even better than when I first heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmK1iiKl-nQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey3qvD1EpXA Bonus Track (Been there and back): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odGFA4351fI
  8. For fun, I go off my meds.
  9. Hope you find the time (and the desire) to hop over and spend a bit of time in Paris, Neil. The whole crew here would be delighted to hoist a few with you....
  10. What's a Panerai? Sounds like an Italian toaster.
  11. See what I mean?
  12. Credit card comparison site - useful info concerning every possible card you can think of: http://www.cardoffers.com/ General finances (including CCs) for anal-obsessive bean-counters: http://www.fatwallet.com/c/52 Both great for browsing and killing huge amounts of time.... By the way, I don't use CCs (just a monthly direct-debit card) or cellphones either.
  13. I'm a rehaut man myself.... Others seem to get off on dial feet. Or even (gasp!) punching oval holes! Now somone's started a thread on 'stripped and screwed'... It's true: this site really is currupt.
  14. Not 'corrupt'. This site is currupt. Psst, wanna buy a watch?
  15. I'd be happy to see you - haven't hoisted a few since the Autumn, have we? Tempus fugit!
  16. An excellent moment spent with Usil at the Café Select - during which we discovered we had a great deal more in common than just our interest in watches.... As for the latter, I was impressed by Usil's amazing 49mm Railmaster from Andrew - a most handsome watch (link to Usil's review below) http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...p;hl=railmaster as well as his Fiddy (which I had seen before but was pleased to see and handle again) from the same source (Andrew). My thanks also for Usil's thoughtful loan of a French equivalent of a Cape Cod Cloth along with some jeweler's rouge, with which I am busily buffing out certain imperfections on my Plexi crystals, as well as putting back the shine onto several of my reps..... Lastly - and perhaps most incredibly, as I was leaving (a few minutes after Usil) our waiter, with whom I have had a running and violent feud for literally decades - over some long-forgotten incident that neither of us could ever recall today (exactly the sort of absurd psychodrama that can only happen in France) - for the FIRST TIME in twenty years actually smiled and engaged me in friendly conversation concerning the watches he had seen so beautifully spread out on the table on Usil's polishing cloth, and which he found as fascinating as both Usil and I. Could rep watches be a possible answer to achieving world peace? F***ing amazing.
  17. Actually, I think the expression is 'Yore' nor 'lore', ryyannon. And please stop talking to yourself..... Sorry you can't make it Pug - I guess weaving Muppet-fur clothing for Winter is a long and trying task. Hope to see you next Spring! (Actually, I was hearing the sirens all night long over here in Montparnasse - hope it all works out for you, Mr. P.)
  18. Rep watch collecting produces guys with infallible visual acuity. Simply said, we notice details most people would not even see - except those who know what the genuine article should look like. And that's the point here.
  19. Egg-zactly. Not to mention this: (a minute while I find and post the pic)
  20. Sunday morning and still no word from Master Pugwash. Like Ulysses of lore, is he really sulking in his Muppet-hide tent? As for the French contingent, it looks like they've....um....retreated from the impending confrontation..... So is it just Usil and I, some watches, a few beers and some great conversation? Fine with me! Usil in himself is worth two or three of most anyone else.... :-)
  21. Don't forget to top up the anti-freeze in your daily beater, Bob.... (and no, Miss U: I'm not talking about his 'Willy', for Pete's sake!)
  22. @Nous Defions: thanks for your well-informed and well-written response....
  23. Guys, just use your eyes.... Overall, the Birkin looks very good. But.... it's either Sash's pics or something is very wrong with the workmanshp as revealed in the several close-ups he used in his thread. Think leatherwork and small stitching details. Should definitely not be on a bag purporting to be of this quality..... Do see what I see? To be fair, I think we need to let Sash - who seems to be a perfectly stand-up guy - respond before we pass definitive judgement on this particular model.....
  24. Love blooms on RWG: Since this is definitely one of the most currupt threads ever, I move that it be spliced into 'the shortest thread ever' so that both may live happily forever and ever and have lots of the dumbest threads ever together......
  25. Personally, I think that 'daunwaun' is really eddielee fooling around with a new persona.....
