  1. My most cherished replica, a Pam 2533 with a Moljot (Polijot?) - ok, with a well-known Russian movement has suddenly decided to stop working when in a horizontal position (ie, strapped to my wrist), while working perfectly when in a vertical position (ie, nailed to the wall). I know there are a few people on this forum who actually know what goes on inside a mechanical watch, and I'd appreciate their interpretation of this issue - which is assuredly the clear symptom of a specific problem in the mecanism itself. I reiterate: watch horizontal: stops; watch vertical: runs fine. Of course, I plan on taking it to a repair shop, but I'd like to have an informed idea of what might actually be wrong before having to hear that I have to replace the clutch, transmission and driveshaft. Thanks for your input, watch wizards!
  2. How did this piece of [censored] find its way onto my iMac? Never had anything like this in six years surfing the Net. Would mail-bombs work in taking the ErrorSafe site down?
  3. Amen. Trouble is, most people here weren't even born.... don't have any idea....prolly couldn't care less. Good of you to remember.
  4. 'Reduced 91%'? Crasy!
  5. On RWG, that's called 'doing a Nanuq'. :-) (At least that's what I call it.)
  6. I think Slay should stay. I also think we need a lederhosen thread: Speaking of Porn Hell.... Actually, maybe we could combine everything under one topic: The Porn Hell Lederhosen Thread, moderated by Slay? Have I taken this one a bit OT?
  7. Slay, if you're really going to go, would you please post a picture of yourself in lederhosen before you leave?
  8. Those post-war babies (along with the Dodges and Chryslers) were built like tanks. Weighed tons. They could run right over a Ford or Chevy and you wouldn't even notice. Fluid Drive (still) rules.
  9. It was pretty much like this, only in white. I'm not kidding.
  10. Just a quick general footnote: anyone thinking of coming here should check out the listings (and client ratings) on tripadvisor.com: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g187147-...nce-Hotels.html My own favorite areas are the 5th and 6th districts, with several great places in the 7th, 14th, and Saint Louis Island (l'Ile Saint-Louis). Scroll down the listings and you'll be SURE to find just the place that fits your budget and tastes. With a little bit of friendly requesting - and if you're hesitant to do the negotiating for reservations and rooms, I'll be happy to call in and do the preliminaries - after which you can call in your financials (credit card) to book your stay.* Good luck looking - it's actually quite enjoyable reading the tripadvisor reviews! *offer reserved for Supporting Members and RWG old-timers, whether Supporting or not. :-)
  11. I've spent a few hours in both Oxford and Cambridge. I definitely prefer Cambridge.
  12. You forgot the Crillon on the Place de Concorde: Nice view from the Presidential Suite. Just tell them that Ryyannon sent you. By the way, who's paying for all this? If you're looking for a charming boutique hotel at less than $1,500 per day for a standard room, let me know - I can give you some suggestions.... I may still be using IE5.1 (last version ever made for Apple computers) but I do know my way around town.
  13. The same thing now seems to be happening to me: before it was just the forum 'forgetting' that I had already logged in - and having to log in each time I left and came back. And this, despite Admin' extremely supportive suggestions and personalized help in trying to resolve the problem. I'll post here if the disconnection-after-changing-subforums issue (as well as the 'remember me' issue) resolves itself. I wonder if there are just two members experiencing this problem? -------------------------------------- Update: The good news is that the disconnection (logged out) problem seems to have resolved itself: I can post and navigate within the forum without having to log in again. The bad news is that I have to log in each time I leave the forum - I can live with that (the workaround is to open a new browser window when I want to go to other sites and leave RWG open in the first window).... This happens with the Dark Side as well: I've never been able to keep myself logged in - but since I don't spend much time there it's never really been a problem. Time will tell - thanks again to Admin for his support and help!
  14. Is Omega outsourcing its production to Chinese replica watch factories?
  15. Thanks for the personal reply, Admin....unfortunately, what you suggested doesn't work. I'm sure you have your hands full of more pressing concerns, and I don't want to add to your worries - especially since this issue is essentially my fault: my browser is pretty much obsolete. Unless I change for something more recent, I'm just going to have to learn to live with it. Best regards, J.
  16. This really sucks. I sometimes have to sign in again after changing sub-forums! I can't imagine I'm the only one here with this problem....
  17. I'll thank you to leave my end out of this discussion, Gunnar.... :-/
  18. Everytime I leave the forum, I have to log in again. As if this weren't enough, if I go to things like the search function, I get the login message again! I've deleted my cookies, but this hasn't changed the problem. Ok, I'm using an ancient iMac with IE5.1, but I've never encountered this issue before, and never on the 'old' forum layout. Can this be addressed from within the new interface? Hope so - it's a royal pain in the behind....
  19. 'All the time' now... Was called out rather testily by a woman in a café in a memorable confrontation during one of the last Paris GTGs - the poor dear thought I was staring at HER! On several occasions, I've even queried total strangers on the marque or model of the watch they were wearing.... Since I learned about brands like Church, Weston and John Lobb years back, I've also become aware of high-end and custom-made shoes, which are as much as a statement as the often more discreet watches....
  20. I'm light-years away from being an expert on the subject, but the movement and the engraving on the caseback look funky enough to me to be authentic. Could it be that this guy doesn't know what he's got? Or is this a masterpiece of fakery?
  21. Welcome back, Usil! Those dates would be fine with me.... as for PCs, I haven't a clue. Pug is the forum Apple expert; there should certainly be some Windoze geniuses around here as well....
  22. Thank you, Mr. Pugwash.... :-) What key do I hold down for a little Paris GTG?
  23. for an old iMac slot-loader running OS9.1.... What I'd like to do is try to boot off a flash memory on one of the usb ports... This is theoretically possible with the older iMacs running OS9x - the question is, what do I load onto the memory? I have the original system CDs, would it suffice to create a disk-image? And when re-starting, what would be the key to hold down to bypass the HD? I've posted this question on the discussion boards of Apple, but no clear answers so far - other than those who've replied that it doesn't work in OS10x.... I figure that if ever the Cd drive gives up, it would be good to have another access to repair or otherwise salvage files from the HD. Anyone around here Mac-savvy enough to figure this one out? Can't seem to leave OS9x - I've got another machine with OS10.4, but it sits gathering dust...
  24. I'm glad you found it interesting, Omni - I thought that certain members would.... And of course, my wishes for an excellent new year to you and the RWG community!
