Bond Sub with coin edge bezel and thick case -
perry563 replied to perry563's topic in The Rolex Area
http://www.pc-80108.com/ Look at product 0085 -
Take a look at Joshuas site at the new products. It looks like a Bond sub with a thick case and coin sdge bezel. Am I correct?????????

Superocean is just about the perfect rep but some do not like its very sporty/clunky look. The ULTIMATE Planet Ocean or Ultimate B Evolution are great choices. If I had 500 to spend knowing what I know now I would go for a MBW modern Sub. That will cost you around 350. That leaves you 150 to change out the band for a hollow link NOOB type and also a new bezel insert/pearl. What you will then have is a Rolex Sub that is 96% as good as the real thing. Not bad for your first rep dont you think?

Check out THIS forum and look under TTK or a new dealer of MBW (who I cannot vouch for) PASO. Just understand that TTK is very hard to deal with....he does not answer emails quickly (actually he may never answer emails) and once you order a watch it may take a few months before you get it. BUT you WILL get your watch and its worth the wait! http://replica-watch.info/forum/index.php MBW are the best overall so trust me from experience spend the few extra bucks and buy the best. If you dont you will eventually. Buying one now will save you $$ in the long run.

TRUST ME...I have bought all the various levels of SUBS and I would have saved myself time and money by just buying a MBW from the very beginning. The overall feel of the watch is like the gen and you cant beat the rehaut. I also have had no QC issues at all with the MBW. The dial and crown guards are very good although not perfect. If you are crazy about accuracy buy a MBW AND the noobmariner (beginmariner etc) and then swap out the dial and band from the noob into the MBW and you will have a 98% rep. Add a new insert with better pearl and trim slightly the base of both CG and you would be approaching a PERFECT Sub rep. Out of the box however without any mods you would need to be a ROLEX expert to notice the difference between an unmodded MBW and the real thing.

They are selling the correct crown on that web site I just posted for $1350! I was a collector of modern/vintage watches...I have over 20 of these ranging from a rare 1925 14k waltham to a circa 2001 TT datejust. I found this web site 2 years ago and now have amassed 13 reps, 10 of which are Rolex...mostly Subs. I have just bought the three top MBW Rolex watches...1680, GW 1655 and a modern sub. Such great quality. I THINK I am done with Subs now although I am toying with the idea of modding them to almost perfection.

Well....I have a MBW sub and The silix Bond Sub right here in front of me and yes indeed the Bond case is visually thinner. I also have a real Rolex DJ. The Silix case is similar in thickness (and shape actually just longer) as compared with the DJ and BOTH are thinner than the Sub case. I also did not say that the crown on the Bond sub was the SAME as the DJ....it is certainly DJ "like" in size and that was my point. Once again..the crown on the true BOND sub as per the video clip is huge. You would also need to add to the list a "coin edge" bezel. I have seen coin edge bezel/insert for sale but NOT cheap ..look here..... http://www.classicwatchparts.com/catpart/c...4jmc35hv72643q5 Would any of these fit the Silix Bond Sub? What is the correct crystal for the Silix Bond sub?
-
If you look at that video a few times there is no debate...its a BIG crown. The dial is very similar to the Silex Sub Bond watches with a bezel insert that has no seconds "dots" that I can see and no red triangle at "12". Unless the article I posted is wrong (it could be) it says that big crown Rolex Subs came with the thicker case. The small crown types had the thin case which is what Silix produced. This does make sense since I highly doubt the very skinny case Silix produced would look right with that huge crown sticking out from it. From the pictures I have seen the Silix BOND watch is in actuality a very early Rolex design predating the Bond films by a decade or so. The thinner cases with small crown gave way to the thicker cases with the larger crown later on. Bottom line the Bond watch does indeed have a big crown and as such the case must be thicker than the Silix case. Just the fact that the Silix Bond offering comes with a "datejust" size crown shows it is not the Bond Sub as per that video clip.
-
As one example if you look at the short video of Connery in his white tux looking at his watch (not sure what poster has this in every post) you can clearly see the huge crown. From what I have read the large crown only came with the thicker case not the thin one Silix offered. (which has the very small crown)
-
I understand all that HOWEVER...........If you look at the actual watch Connery wore it had a big crown. The big crown Rolex's only came with a thick case. The watch recently offered has a very small crown and thin case. If one wants THE watch worn by Connery its NOT this watch! I KNOW the debate can be complicated by throwing in the idea of how the authur of the James Bond books described the watch. In my mind however the bottom line is what did Connery wear? The watch he wore had a big crown and reading about Rolex history big crown Rolex's did not come in a thin case (which makes sense). I realize the dealers do not make watches but they are our avenue to make it known what we want as a rep. The recent offering as a BOND Sub is nice, I have one, but it is not what Connery wore as James Bond back in the 1960's.
-
I was looking through some old posts and I came up with this.... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...&hl=vintage THIS appears to be the watch worn by Sean Connery in Dr. No and not the version recently offered. Note the big crown which I have read only came with a thicker case...read this article.... http://www.ajb007.co.uk/articles/007/rolex-submariner/ SO...if the watch worn by Connery had a big crown..and it did then the watch offered recently really is not the BOND Sub. The recent offering as the BOND Sub has a small crown and thin case which in actuality (if you read the above articles) is an earlier 1950's Sub type. The bottom line for me is...Although I bought the latest BOND offering and it is nice I find the one in the first link above to be a WILD looking sub and more true to the Sub worn by Connery as James Bond. Why cant we all get together and see if we can ask Silix or one of the other trusted dealers if they could come up with a great rep that matches? What do you think?

I also bought a Clark T39 Superdome to go with it. Now I read that perhaps this is the wrong crystal for my GW. Would it be that objectionable/incorrect to install a superdome on a Great White? I already have a MBW 1680 with a flat top Clark crystal....I wanted the superdome on the GW. What do you rolex experts think????

Discoloration of dial hour markers - Need expert advise!
perry563 replied to perry563's topic in The Rolex Area
No...the watch crystal has never fogged up. I have looked at my entire collection of Rolex reps and am seeing this on several. However the perfect SD is showing up the worst. Like I said its a very light gray shadow effect. If you can imagine a white piece of paper with a light water spot on its surface. Thats what it looks like. It does not cover the enire surface of the hour marker.....just the center part. At 12 oclock it looks the most obvious while the others the gray spots are small and relativly unnoticable. -
Discoloration of dial hour markers - Need expert advise!
perry563 replied to perry563's topic in The Rolex Area
Maybe a year with very limited wearing. I just noticed it when I wore this watch yesterday to the NJ shore. It was a very bright and sunny day and maybe around mid day I looked down and saw these spots (more like very light gray shadows). The large one was on the 12 oclock triangle but I could se similar but smaller spots on the others. -
I have been many times. Do not forget to stop by the watch shop in the Ceasers Palace forum mall.
-
I noticed that some of the hour markers on my Perfect SD have discolored. This is noticable mostly with the 12 OClock marker but all of them if you look close have the same issue....just harder to spot. The markers of course should be white but now have a light gray spotting. Anyone have any thoughts as to what is the cause? Perhaps something to do with the lume?
-
I own several datejusts and the bands fit perfect. The fit and finish of all Rolex watches (gens) are always on the money....never glaring issues like your watch band.
-
I have been collecting for the last 2 years or so. With all the talk of how great the HBB was and is I bought one from Joshua earlier this year. I have only wore the watch a few times...its brand new..no scratches. The watch is just too big for me to wear so I want to sell it. Its only fault is that the quick date setting function does not work. I am sure this would be a quick fix for those who have experience working on watches. The date function works perfectly by the way its just that you need to use the hour hands to set the date. Once set it changes like clockwork at 12 midnight with no issues. The watch keeps great time and all cronos work perfectly. I paid 428 US dollars plus 25 shipping. I will accept the highest reasonable offer I get by tomorrow evening EST. Shipping willl be free in the US.

Going to Paris & London for a couple of weeks.
perry563 replied to gioarmani's topic in The looney bin
If you visit Westminster Abby walk over the bridge and there will be a hotel to your left. The restaurant in that hotel is wonderful. -
I have Andrews YM. Its a beautiful watch. Yes the date mag is a lil to the right and like all YM the red letters on the dial are not bold enough. However all reps have some issues...none are perfect. Buy it from Andrew...the quality is wonderful and if you have an issue he will stand behind the watch.

Neil: OK...I sent you several emails with my typical...."Neil ITS PERRY"......in the subject line. I sent you via Western Union on the 31st the $ for a MBW Modern Sub. I know you are busy but if I can get that watch to me in the next two weeks it would be great since I will be away from home the 3 weeks after. Are you saying I can order a great white NOW? Just want to be sure since you stated you were not accepting any more orders. Regards from NJ. Perry.
-
Neil: I sent payment via western union on July 31st as I mentioned around 30 minutes before you announced you were suspending trading. Let me know about squeezing in a purchase of a great white SD . Regards and thanks, Perry.
-
Neil: I sent you payment for a MBW modern Sub just about 30 minutes BEFORE you announced your potential retirement. I hope my order will go through! I also would like a great white SD but I assume that now is an impossibility? Perry.

I am new to this forum but have been an avid collector from various TRUSTY dealers. I would love to also own this watch. Is it too late for me to get on the list? If not PLEASE put me down for one. Perry.
