  1. Thanks for your post arniezac. I like to think I have taken it in the spirit in which it was posted. That is to say I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. As mentioned above, I just love the way every move you made resulted in another more serious problem, especially when the hands few off. It reads like a professional script. I think most of us have tried things with watches that have gone terribly wrong. It surprising how fast hastily removed hands can go pinging over you left shoulder and disappear into the next dimension. I hope things work out for you, if they don't you can always cheers yourself up via the contemplation of your next purchase.
  2. Hey guy, I've been pretty busy this week. My quartz Speedy arrived a few days ago. It's exactly the same as described in the original pictures. I'm very happy with it, and for the money it's a wonderful wrist watch. My large Tachy hand was resetting at the 58sec mark when it arrived. But of course when you unscrew and pull the crown you can advance the Tachy hand by pushing the start/stop button. In fact you can have the Tachy hand start and reset to wherever you want. All I had to do was pull out the crown and push the stop/start button twice to advance the hand to the 60sec mark and screw the crown back in. Problem solved. I would admit it does make me want to own a gen though.
  3. Nice one Coeuss. How good is that for the price? Looking forward to receiving mine.
  4. Mine should be arriving early next week. Look forward to your pictures. EDIT: Coeuss has your also got the quality engraved writing in the clasp?
  5. Guys those are incredible. With the Gen insert it's practically all over.
  6. Holy Cr*p, now I want one. Great pics, thanks for posting. Can we see the caseback???
  7. I love the description. --- The watch is in mint condition...then...The watch's dial and hands were re-done, the case is a replacement. Watch is being sold as is with no returns...then...Bank wire transfer only as it is a high valued watch. --- It paints a picture doesn't it. I particularly like the "no scratches" comment.
  8. Thanks gioarmani...enjoyed going through thoses. With respect to the 1680's, I'll always consider this generation of Subs, SD's, YM's and GMT's as the proper and classic Rolex tool watches.
  9. Yeah, but you're in safe hands there. I mean look, he's got a-whole three feedbacks.
  10. My SMP 2254.50 also has the new mark. I'd say it hasn't appeared on the reps yet for two reasons. The mark is still fairly new and most likely because of the costs involved in replicating it. I mean that is what they are aiming for when they think of these things. They want to make it more and more expensive to replicate.
  11. Dead right TeeJay. mastrmindalliance, Sub bracelets are NOT flimsy. Think about how many times you have thought of them as flimsy, now think about how many times you have heard of the gen bracelet failing in the field. They are a light weight but tough Tool Watch, not a hefty chunk of bling. The stripped down sports car is a perfect analogy. Like a high performance car they are meant to do a specific job. They DO however rattle a lot. The gen 16610 Sub that I'm wearing right now (hollow links) rattles a lot. It rattles at the slightest movement. Your rep bracelet makes noise because it is just like the gen. If you eliminate the noise you will be making it less like a hollow link gen. I think the noisy hollow link bracelet is a beautiful piece of engineering. Light on the wrist and very reliable.
  12. I was also thinking custom, but the thing with this term is it generally refers to something being made to order or as ordered by a customer. I don't think that quite fits. Composite on the other hand simply refers to something that is made from different parts. A more general term but I think it fits better.
  13. How about a "Composite Watch"...(you heard it here first )
  14. There is no doubt about the investment potential and security of the Sub as well as the quality. Remember to factor in the Rolex Service costs however.
  15. AIM FOR THEIR LUG HOLES...
  16. Hey Guys if you remember a bit over a year ago, with your help I purchased this, my first Gen Sub. It's a 1995 W Serial Tritium Model. I said I'd get back when I got it serviced and I've finally got around to it. My Sub arrived back from the Sydney Rolex Service Centre today, so here are the picks. Here's the Before Shot While I was in Sydney I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down with one of the RSS Watch Smiths and negotiate to leave in the Tritium Dial, Hands, Bezel Insert and Pearl. It took some convincing, but I got there in the end. They said the second anything looks like it's going to flake off the hands and get into the works, the hands will have to go. But they were fine and I still have an all original Tritium Sub. I purposely left some of these pics large to allow those interested to see the CG's up close as well as the job they did finishing the case and bracelet. Enjoy. This was the first service since it was made. I was a little scared that, because the case had not been opened in over 12 years, that the cost might be much above a standard service. Fortunately for me it still only needed a straight forward over-hall.
  17. Getting a really accurate 2254.50 I believe is a little challenging. I will say they have one of the most readable dial and hand combos of any watch on earth.
  18. It's the angle of the rehaut. It could just be the photo but the angle dosen't quite look right; not steep enough. Wokky is thinking of the face of the watch as if it were a wok with the rehaut representing the sides of the wok. It can be a big deal or a small thing depending on your focus. Could be just the picture. Anyone?
  19. If you can live with the wokkyness. ;0)
  20. Hey Avanti, Welcome mate. I believe you have misinterpreted the response to this thread though. People aren't thinking of you as the list here grows. They know the correct answer was given right at the start and know you have been looked after. People are simply posting here because it is a fun game and they are all trying to out do each other It's nice to join in a light-hearted thread from time to time. I've posted here twice and the last thing that was on my mind was being somehow mean to you. I've also been reading all of the responses and I don't remember reading anything that I thought was directed at you. Actually if I had started a thread as popular as this I'd be rather stoked. Cheers
