  1. Purple Monkey Dishwasher...no wait! It only stands for that after Chinese Whispers.
  2. Don't listen to those jokers it's.... Rasterfarian Worldwide Gathering
  3. Thanks guys, It has a standard display back that shows an asian swan neck. And now to develop a serious strap obsession.
  4. Hey guys, I finally got around to strapping on one of these monsters. I really got hooked on the military history behind the sterile dial. Was a little worried about the 47mm size but I think it works on my wrist. (clearly phone pics) Cheers for looking.
  5. In a lot of ways the traditional bracelet has an iconic status all of its own and I think you lose a certain something when you take it away the watch head. Oh I just realised what it was as I was typing...that rubber strap looks modern, the watch head does not. I think they clash.
  6. Hey guys, does anyone know what a period correct strap for a sterile dialled Kampfschwimmer looks like? Cheers
  7. One of the attractions of the Sub is that the basic design has changed very little over many, many years. And because everything has changes around it, the design has developed an individual character and heritage. I believe people are attracted to the traditional design, it's rugged and I believe quite masculine, and to change the design is a problem for some because in a way it detracts a little from the tradition. Like many others I'd like the Sub to stay traditional forever, rather than have the design become diluted and eventually lost in the name of marketing and profit. The larger and new model Sub in my view heralds the end of the pure tool watch that is, a traditional SS Submariner.
  8. Good one! It's non-tradtional but o.k. I think...enjoy.
  9. Hey billkuk, My initial reaction also is I don't like it. Having said that however, I suspect that black strap might look better on the wrist then in the above pics. So how about a nice wrist shot??? I'm quite curious now.
  10. To say it feels cheap demonstrates a misunderstanding of the bracelet design and original intended purpose. It is also far from flimsy, quite the opposite in fact. The watch wears nice and light on the wrist, the fliplock never pops open, and the case never leaks or corrodes. It's made for a tough working environment where having a heavy watch on your wrist is not an advantage.
  11. The original gen hollow link bracelet with fliplock buckle is a thing of beauty. It remains true to its original design brief ie. to be as strong as possible and as light as possible. A true 'tool watch' and a classic. It was never meant to be sold for megabucks to be worn as a dress watch. Its was a workers watch.
  12. Try this, Put the dial under a bright light for 2mins (right up to the light). After 2 mins take the dial into a dark room and check the lume. The lume on my gen is so strong, I can pretty much see where I am walking in the dark if I direct it at the floor. Very bright, and fitting of the term super lume.
  13. I got the impression you were talking about a gen. I reckon you're right, give it a little time and see. You'll probably get over it. Remember...what it lacks in lume it makes up for in super cool (increasing the value of your watch) lug holes.
  14. I have a "W serial" Sub 1995. Exactly the same thing, if I look at the dial in the dead of night I can see it still glowing just a touch. Had the same questions. My advice would be if you care about the future value of the watch, then leave it all original. With the new Subs that came out this year, the older more traditional Subs are becoming more collectable. And the ones that are still the same as when they rolled out of the factory will be the ones that are valued the most.
  15. I have a mid nineties 16610 with the lug holes. I hope, with the recent changes to the Sub, that it will be adopted as a true classic model in the future and continue to increase in value.
  16. Thanks for posting whitestripes. Good read.
  17. Geez Bazz, nice work on both the watch and the pics.
  18. That's what I was going to say. Looks great SC68.
  19. I definitely can't say the same. When I first saw this watch I believe I made some reference to drunken rep manufactures. I'll admit seeing the above pics though has had an impact. Maybe it's just time that has soften the edges of that thing. Now I'm also thinking what it would look like in black.
  20. Nice one Bruce, I can tell you are really going to enjoy wearing your very own SD. Congratulations.
  21. Congratulations FB. Beautiful watch; great price.
