  1. I think this trumps Patek's 5002...
  2. Totally agree with Drizznay; 7750 goes in ASAP for service.
  3. Never mind. This was a flu-driven, dumb-as-hell question anyway. I'm going back to my Nyquil...
  4. Josh has a ladies' datejust that is very nice. It's the one with the smooth bezel.

  6. Thank you Richard; olive branch accepted. I have been doing a little more investigating, and cannot find an absolute consensus on this... When I bought my Steinhausen, I did so based on advice I received when I was in Bern on a business trip, from a local Swiss watch dealer. Now, I admit that just because he was Swiss and located in the Mecca of the watch world doesn't mean he necessarily knew what he was talking about. But the shop had been there for 180 years, and he seemed like a good old fellow. He felt that it was almost criminal that I didn't own a winder (and an expensive one at that); like, "You DON'T have a winder???" Now, had he been selling winders, I would have been immediately suspicious, but he did not. He also didn't immediately recommend his buddy down the street. So, when I got home I picked one up. I can't even find the model on the web anymore (this was a couple of years ago), so when I get back to my office, I'll grab my camera and take a couple of pics. It's unique in that it has the 'fuzzy logic' pattern (see below) in both clockwise and counter-clockwise, as well as a daily computerized timer for EACH of the double-watch motors. It has worked fabulously since I bought it. Fuzzy Logic Pattern: I called three local watch dealers (here in Toronto) this morning to get their take on winders (with all this discussion, I was wondering if the advice given to me was still correct...). The first did not sell winders (watches and jewellery only), and answered with the same emphatic "YES!" that I heard in Bern. The second did sell winders (single watch only) and his opinion was that they were more of a convenience than anything else. The third also did not sell winders, and insisted that they would over-work any watch that spent a majority of time on them; she did not favour their use at all (like Richard, she prefers hand-winding and closer personal care over convenience and automation). So there it is. I think that ultimately if you buy an expensive winder (providing your collection is worth it) with the functionality I have mentioned above, and you regularly cycle through your watches, you can't go far wrong. Alternatively, Watchwatcher's setup appears to do basically the same thing, although I don't know if the 'cycle' pattern is the same , or if the motors just turn one way, and then the other. Ultimately, you cannot go wrong with Richard's by-hand process; as he rightly pointed out earlier on, we've been hand-winding for a lot longer than auto winders have been around...
  7. Thanks Rolexman! I'll just ask Joe to pop it off when he's servicing and send me the crown and bezel separately for replating...
  8. Can anyone tell me how I can pop the bezel insert out of my TT sub without damaging it?
  9. Well, that's friendly.
  10. I thought we were just counting reps, no? repaustria and jimmytim - how many of yours are reps?
  11. Well said, JJ.
  12. As I said, just looking for detailed information. Can we agree to disagree?
  13. That is creepy. Pay attention Nanuq; you're needed around here!
  14. Please don't take this personally, Richard; I'm just trying to get some accurate information for our new friend. I was simply interested in whether your information was based on actual fact, or just a speculative opinion. Challenging opinions on the board is a fact of life here; again, nothing personal. I have done my homework, and I bought a winder based on the information I collected. Joe just PM'd me, and here's his two-cents: "i like winders , i think keeping your timepiece wound would keep the timing running smoother and more accurately , than one that stops and goes, as far as wear and tear i dont think either or is a realy big proven fact, i do think if your watch sits the oil dries up faster". So, it seems you have some differing views on this subject, HeWhoIsLikeGod. Robertk, Watchwatcher, rbj69 (Joe), and I all have winders and have not had any problems with them. Offshore may or may not have a winder, but is in favour. TomBombadil sees them more as a convenience, and Richard Tracy's opinion is that they are actually harmful in the long run. I hope this has at least provided some information. Keep us posted on what decision you make. Best of luck.
  15. Black.
  16. New, but HORRIBLY addicted, so that's 12 for me which makes... 41 total
  17. A fine, fine song, my friend. Can you do Monty Python's Philosopher Song?
  18. That's an interesting stat, Richard; have not heard that before. Have you ever owned a winder? If so, which model? Have you personally ever had first-hand negative experience with a winder? I'm just wondering if your "opposite view of winders" stems from a specific experience that caused you to switch back to a static case. The Zigmeister? Joe? Any thoughts on this from the 'pros'?
  19. Good points, Richard, but I think it depends on the quality of your reps and whether you go in for pre-use service from Joe or The Zigmeister before they go on the winder. If you take your reps direct from the vendor, and slap them on the winder, then yes, I would agree with you. Add to that an Asian 7750, and again, I would agree that you are increasing your risk of failure in the movement. But if you, upon receipt of your new rep from the dealer, immediately send it off to be disassembled, cleaned, and serviced, then I do not agree that you are accelerating the demise of your watch by then placing it on a winder. The winder that I have does not continually cycle around; it has pre-set programs that emulate normal daily wear. Normal daily wear will not destroy your rep. In addition, some reps have gen movements in them to begin with; take the 196 Daylight with the Swiss 7753. The winder wouldn't damage the gen, and it isn't going to damage the rep. As I mentioned in my initial reply, this is not an area to skimp. Buy a good winder with intermittent programming, add the cost of initial service to your rep purchases, and you will be fine.
  20. So, I get fed up with the fast-paced entertainment world, and I move up to the Great White North . I get a little cabin, plenty of supplies, and chill out with a box of good books. Six months go by, and I'm feeling pretty relaxed. The Big City stress has left me, and I'm really enjoying gettin' back to nature. But it's getting a bit lonely... You see, the cabin is on 300 acres of land, and the nearest town is hours away. One day, there's a knock on the door. I open it up, and there's Nanuq! "Hey", he says. "I'm your neighbour, Nanuq." "Nice to meet you Nanuq", I reply. "Havin' a party. Wonderin' if you want to come", says Nanuq. "Sounds great", I say. After six months of isolation, I could use a little entertainment, I think to myself. Plus, he seems like a nice enough guy, probably has nice friends. "Gotta warn ya", he says, "Gonna be some drinkin'..." "Fine by me", I say, "I'm Canadian, man, I can drink with the best of 'em!" "Probably should warn ya...", he says, "Might be some fightin' too..." "Well, I usually get along with everyone, but if there's a problem, I can hold my own", I tell him. "Oughtta tell ya", he says, "Probably be some wild sex..." "Now you're talking! After six months out here on my own, I could use a little action!", I say, "What should I wear?" "Don't much matter", he says, "Just gonna be the two of us..." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I have a six watch Steinhausen with the 'fuzzy logic' movement. It has a drawer underneath for 8 more. I love it. I would beware of the REALLY cheap models on eBay; here you get what you pay for...
  22. Nice!
  23. D70. No contest. Pick up a 28mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, and an 80mm-200mm zoom, and you'll be set to shoot more than just watches. On eBay all of the above lenses are affordable; just make sure you don't buy anything over 2.8. Of course, if you really do just want to shoot watches, the 50mm and the 85mm are fine. Hope that helps.
  24. @kruzer00 Fundamentally, you are correct... Hell, you're correct period. @ryyannon Thank you. Hmmm... Cars... Give me a couple of days, and I'll post it in the 'off topic' forum. @Newkirk I think there are four syllables missing in the middle of your Haiku: Unless you're aware Most persons ___ ___ ___ ___ A false sense of worth! Keep at it; you'll get there eventually...
  25. I just got a Blue 3-6-9 last week from Joshua. It's STUNNING. Having read a number of posts on the old board, I am sending it to The Zigmeister to be disassembled, cleaned, and oiled. It is working fine right now, but yesterday the Chrono 'jumped' for the first 10 seconds, after which it settled down. I won't use that function again until it's serviced... Just a fact of life with the 7750, I'm afraid. Hope that helps.
