It Looks Like PAM's Are The "It" Watch in the Hamptons
Victoria replied to Watchmeister's topic in General Discussion
On the off-chance this was not tongue-in-cheek, a primer. The Hamptons are the collective name given for an exclusive area in the east end of Long Island -- most famously Southampton, birthplace of Jacqueline Kennedy, but who lived most of her childhood in neighbouring East Hampton. Notorious for their "WASP", high-society, ultra-exclusive tone, recently a younger hipper crowd have taken faster to the Hamptons like a thirsty P. Diddy to Crystal. (In fact, I believe he owns a home there now, an unthinkable state of affairs just a decade ago) The nightlife in the Hamptons has also benefitted from this crowd, and right now, it's the most happening place in the summer in the whole of the US (including my own neighbourhood, South Beach). The Hamptons are vaguely analogous to Palm Beach, but the latter is a much narrower island, whose high society is as old as the hills, if equally deeply anti-WASP/Old Guard. That's also the case in the -
Oh-oh. I sense newbie mistake made causing much mirth to those with inside joke knowledge. Glad to have been of service!

Just came back from watch Bruce Willis' latest incarnation of "Die Hard" (Live Free or Die Hard 4...which, incidentally, was one of the best action flicks I've ever seen, or maybe I'm just sentimental because I loved Die Hard 1 so much, when I was kid): He apparently wore a Casio, which had a promotional ad campaign tied to DH4: But Timothy Olymphant (the baddie) wore a very sweet Audemars Piguet T3, with this precise strap: There were also cameos by Panerais on the rest of the bad guys. Love it! If you see only summer blockbuster, see this one. Especially with a full house.

Panerai 1950: Some Pictures To Share With You All
Victoria replied to Stephane's topic in The Panerai Area
Wow, that was great, Stephane! Vaguely like a striptease...ta da da da, ta da da da...boom! boom! too doo boom! Boob shot! But classy, mind -- the Dita von Teese of posts. Very nice indeed. My fave shot was the fold-over strap buckle/movement, 24.jpg. -
Magnificent. I've been told a package has arrived from Elliot, so I'll check that tomorrow and probably FINALLY give you guys wrist-check shots with the PAV 91. Hey, Hambone. Panerai minds think alike -- I got a Sony camera too. Very similar in fact, though I don't know the model. Great cameras for the price.

Around you, you mean? Yes, I feel the same way. As I said, my boyfriend likes watches, but he doesn't have a passion for them as I do -- spending hours on this site, combing info...thanks for the compliment too.

99% of Anglophones wouldn't know. It's just your rotten luck, Corgi, that you seem to be a Francophone who moreover in Canada, have a slew of people who know that's not the right spelling for that. Ergo, they'll know immediately it's a fake. And forget it, if you move to France one day...
-
God, why didn't I see V's reply and yours before I bought so many straps last night...argh! We'll see. I'm nearly skint. There goes my trip to St. Tropez.
-
Good deal. You did indeed come to the right place, although I think the wrong person answered you first.

If it were I, I would give him a sound verbal thrashing on his site. That's not cool, as Americans say, on so many levels (fraud being the most offensive one). "Currently offline phil10 (2) Rosieres Pres Troyes, France - Member since 1/30/2006" Ring any bells, as to possible location of said ex-or current forum member?

An unusual question. Sounds like you want to go into the rep business yourself, MBKO923. I'm guessing the high-volume dealers do invest in purchasing real pieces, certainly of the more popular marques like Rolex. They may even slip a small "commission" to ADs in Hong Kong, China or Japan, to "lend" them pieces, or buy and return them. And occasionally there are bulk buys by groups of regular collectors, if there is enough interest, so I'm yet again guessing one can ask a collector to customise certain pieces.

Andrew's got a new section of newbie watches...
Victoria replied to fitmic's topic in General Discussion
Saw that last night, and wasn't impressed because I don't like Rolexes. I o.d.'ed on them when I was a kid, before reps became common place. Now they are 'eh' to me. On just a tradesman's angle, I think it's fantastic of Andrew to have done this. It's in direct competition to this buddy Joshua's Noobmariner ("Beginnermariner" in his more polite words), too, which I believe is still on sale for $108 shipped. I'm guessing 80% of the traffic to these guys sites are people looking for knock-off Rolexes, so it makes sense for him to have concentrated on just 17 Rolex types, for his Newbie section. -
I've seen a photo of you wearing that, By-Tor, and it looks SMASHING on you. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...y-Tor+Breitling But not too sure it has that same effect on other people. It can be a little tacky if worn on the wrong skin tone (too dark: olive, or brown, e.g.), and look preposterous on a guy who is 5'8" or under...as I recently saw in a hotel dining room. My father owned a gen Ulysse Nardin Maxi Skeleton, or similar (I forget the exact model). People stopped dead in their tracks, looking at it. Similar to what I said about me wearing my lowly PAM 111h. I'd say to the original poster, go with the best skeleton rep, if you can. The effect is extraordinary. P.S.: No Rolexes. People don't even look anymore and don't believe. Sad, but true.

I even know Canadian football! They have one less down. I'm not sure if I'm at your level yet, Lanikai, but let's just I finally know how Ricky Williams feels like most of the time, as I am totally smoking! (BTW, speaking of sports, I've been told Europelli's baseball strap is great -- but another collector said they're not as good as the Italian hides. Thoughts? ...before I break down and buy one. 4th and inches...) P.S.: Bought the Anacardo. Couldn't resist.

Tourbillon is the watchword of the forum this weekend! (Love it)
-
You mean Contellation, no?
-
Thank God you didn't typo that to "[censored]"! P.S.: And you're not so bad yourself. When the purchase goes down with you know who for you know what, I will be sure to mention your incredible info in that dealer review! LOL! Oops, I guess the script censors rude Britishisms as well.
-
Just bought another one! We need a support group, Lanikai...although I swear this is my last strap...maybe. Let this fever pass...or not...

Here are some nice recent threads to read, along those lines. Lots of ideas. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...6006&hl=J12 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...5966&hl=J12

Yes, I for one bought it because of that. But I didn't think it was kosher to post that here, for some reason.
-
No, no I did realise it was a faux-tourbillon (and in fact, mentioned it to that rep -- yes, you got who it was sans PM). But I also did my homework, and if it looks like this faux-tourbillon, I'll be fine with one for $120 -- I would be devastated at $600+, if it brokedown in 6 months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL_paPyKBKQ Still, happy purchasing! If you can get a good one, from Josh, I'd go for it.
-
Call me Victoria, please. vbarrett sounds like I'm in boarding school again. Corgi, is it allowed to mention the collector's name publicly? Or if I give you the hint that he's currently travelling in Asia, and is a UK-based collector -- will that suffice? PM, if not! I'll gladly enlighten you further, and may I just say that though I haven't as yet received my Breguet 1801, the transaction was superb.
-
Corgi, you have fantastic taste. I can't offer you advice on your question, but your concern is what has kept me from buying one of Trusty's or Josh's Breguets. I can deal with throwing away $120...but not $600+. Every since I was little, when I saw my grandfather wearing one, I have wanted a Breguet Tourbillon. I think they are the ne plus ultra of the watch world, and obviously, come with that kind of pricetag. So I bought the next best thing from one of our collectors, here. Turns out another dealer whose site is bandied about lately had it for half what I paid, but I'd rather have someone of confidence here, than anywhere else. This is the Breguet 1801. I had originally wanted it in gold as I think gold is more feminine, but perhaps the silver is more authentic. And the rep is very close.

The Mario Paci brown-papaya strap is absolutely gorgeous!

My favourite shot, of many lovely ones. At first, I noticed that it really looked too light even for my untrained eye standards, but after clicking on Rolli's shot of the real vintage PAM, it's very much in character to the older one. Wow, upgrading to Swiss for free, even if it was a bank issue. He sounds like a wonderful collector, and I only wish I could afford a Davidsen myself. Wear it well!
