  1. You're asking for a religious war with that question. I've used both. I really dislike the XTi body (I personally own the XT still) because it is very small and awkward in the hand. That aside, I'll take the Canon any day of the week even if I would absolutely prefer a bigger more comfortable body. Because you're not really buying a body. Both the D60 and XTi are prosumer bodies that have their faults. Neither are full frame. Neither have particularly good low light performance. Etc. So the most important thing to consider is that you're buying lenses. Bodies will come and go but you'll have the lenses for a long, long time. For macro shooting you're not going to find a better deal than the Canon 100mm/2.8 macro lens. I would consider this to be equivalent in sharpness and contrast to any of the Canon prime "L" lenses (their flagship line), and yet for the price of a non-L lens. Truly one of the gems in the Canon line. There's a 50mm/1.4 non-L Canon lens popular for portraiture that is also almost as good. I love the 100/2.8 for macros though, and also think there is no better lens for taking close ups of children's faces, etc. Then, of course, if you get into things like wildlife or sports photography Canon trumps Nikon by at least 10:1. At any sporting event, for example, glance at the pro photog area and count the number of white lenses (Canon) vs. the number of black lenses (could be Canon or Nikon)... It's usually as least 10:1 white. That's as good an endorsement as any. And lastly, if you go back and look at the R&D pace of the two over the past say 5 years, Canon is consistently ahead in terms of bringing to market the incremental improvements. PS Chromatic aberration in macro shots should be very infrequent if you're in control of the lighting.
  2. Hah.. I wish, but not a chance.
  3. Hey I love a Nanuq style vintage myself... but this is just a site to behold IMO. It looks like something you'd see Christie's sell for nearly six figures.
  4. Yea, I think it's a tremendous deal also... It's on timezone's sales forum. Seller is in Hong Kong but is a very prolific poster over there. I think he's legit. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=4600249&rid=0
  5. Yea, the tritium is a site to behold. I guess the problem with this watch is I'd be afraid to wear it... and of course wouldn't allow Nanuq anywhere near it!
  6. Today the 3717: Tomorrow one of the fraternal twins:
  7. Very nice... Vac has done some nice ones too.
  8. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more beautiful specimen... Original Mark 3 dial... Original 3.5M serial case... An early model DRSD in this kind of shape?!? Are you kidding me?!?!!
  9. Wow... I wish I could take back all the handwinding I've ever done!
  10. Oh it was? Hmm... OK then. Non issue!
  11. Very nice pics of a very nice watch!
  12. Does anyone know if the DSN 28A dial has the internal lens over date window?
  13. Hmm I may have to get one of these dials to transplant into my old school 2892 SOPROD 27A... I think this DSN dial is a step up. Quite nice indeed!
  14. Wow. These are some beefy crystals. It's going to take a LOT of pressure to crack one of these. I can understand the Fiddy crystals doing this, due to the radical curvature and relative thinness... But the PO crystals are only slightly domed and very thick... 2.5mm or so for the 42mm PO. It's hard to imagine these breaking spontaneously due to case tolerances... If the case isn't designed properly, I'd think these thick crystals could never be forced in to place.
  15. I've been looking for a moon display case back myself. I think the older 861 movement is a beauty to look at... but these moon display casebacks are super hard to find and super expensive. PS, Anyone with Omega parts connections who can find a OME0524A at a reasonable price will be my new best friend.
  16. Hey, jd, if you're looking at buying a new one I think the 40th Anniversary edition moon watch with the 02:56 GMT dial would be a great choice. Released just as your soon turn one, also. It'd be a real keepsake. I'd like one myself. But of course, as you say, you can never go wrong with the traditional Speedy either.
  17. FYI, seller confirms that this is an original dial. No relume. Markers are very even and consistent according to him.
  18. In 1989 Omega produced three limited edition series moon watches for the 20th Anniversary of the moon landing. One series of 250 for the German market. One series of 2000 for the USA market (the one I'm buying is one of these). And one series of 4000 (not individually numbered) for "the rest of the world". Incidentally, you'll notice that the USA series of 2000 uses the 1450 folded link bracelet. This is my favorite style of Omega bracelet by far. I had thought that the "rest of the world" 20th Anniv series had the same bracelet but with solid links, rather than folded, but the pic below sure looks folded also... but I digress So, WIS trivia aside, here's a pic of a dial on the "rest of the world" series. This tritium is even messier. Check out the 6 marker: Incidentally, here's the stamp on the side of the case for this "rest of the world" model, series of 4000. They all have this commemorative Apollo XI 1969 stamp instead of individual numbers: Pretty cool IMO.
  19. Thanks, guys! I was wondering about that too, but I don't think it's the case. I've seen a few other pics of the 20th anniversary, and in each case the tritium isn't perfect. Here's a pic of number 0072. Maybe this one is a little cleaner, but the 3, 8, 10 and 12 markers are definitely imperfect: Probably a good idea to confirm with the seller, though. He's got it on hold for me but I haven't sent the wire just yet. Think I'll do that...
  20. This one will soon be on its way to Cali....
  21. I used to think shooting RAW was worthwhile. I haven't done so in a long time. The extra hassle isn't worth the invisible incremental improvement.
  22. It was backordered and took two weeks to ship, but I picked up a Silver LX3 recently from Dell at about $420 USD... Just for fun and when the DSLR is too bulky. It won't be a DSLR replacement, but in all honesty, it's a camera I could live with exclusively if I had to. And that's saying a lot as I've never before used a portable digicam that I liked.
  23. Ah, OK... My old RWG bookmark pointed to http://rwg.cc/members which now always goes to a sign in page. However http://www.rwgforum.com keeps me logged in through browser restarts. All is well.
  24. Hummm.... nothing has changed on my end since before the upgrade... will try to figure out what's going on.
