  1. Hmm. Is that really the best choice of words?
  2. Wow, T. That's gorgeous. I wouldn't have bought the DSSD previously.... But now I might just have to. Can I have it shipped directly to you? The only thing I'd add to mine would be AR on the crystal.
  3. The Horotec dies have a threaded insert so that they can screw on to the press... they're not a friction fit like on the cheaper no-name presses... so you'd have to find the right inserts as well. Good idea to make some on the lathe, though. Could even use something like delrin to make really nice dies.
  4. Hey bra, a little off topic, but fancy crystal press! I've been meaning to upgrade to a Horotec myself. How do you like it?
  5. Me likey!
  6. I concur with avitt.... basically you don't remove it. And I loathe the day I get scratch on my SA crystals, and am powerless to fix it.
  7. Very nice. I'd say the cyclops mag is fine on that. A hair weak but not by much. I might be able to dig up one with a stronger mag if you need it. But you'll then have the problem of trying to figure out how to install it in the sandwich crystal. The diameter of the recess is unlikely to be dead on exact to the diameter of my cyclops. Anyhow, great watch. I love it. (Is that CG really gen?)
  8. Googoo Gaga.....
  9. When I did a single sided AR run a few years ago for a bunch of PAM lenses, we went with a low temp coating which could not be touched with anything. Totally non-durable, not designed to withstand anything. We used lint-free gloves to to handle the lenses and only touched the egde, not the AR surface at all.
  10. Freddy, since we don't know what type of AR they used, be very careful when handling the lens. It's possible that they did not use a high temp coating so that they could coat the lens with the magnifier already attached, in which case, if you touch the coating or even wipe it with a cloth you'll ruin it.
  11. Fade, discolor or oxidize on the inside of a water/air tight enclosure? In any event, even if this were to happen, people (i.e. customers) aren't going to be happy looking at it under the magnification of a 2.5X cyclops! A simple crystal replacement down the road to a non-AR or better-AR version would happen either way.
  12. Well done Freddy, and not the outcome I would have expected. In fact, I consider this a very silly way to do it rather than simply coating the entire underside. For our rep purposes, you'd never know the difference. Someone ought to do a project watch... single AR on crystal and double AR on cyclops. That'd give indistinguishable results.
  13. Ooer....
  14. R - Sorry to hear about your experience with the poor repair center. The USA center is in Irvine, CA and they have always done excellent work for me. They've even done things for free on lenses that were out of warranty. If you'd like to send it to them I'm sure they'll take care of your lens properly. I can even be a middle man if you need me to ship it to them for you. B
  15. They're celebrating his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"... oh wait, that's what you said.
  16. Actually, they're not... Nazi Germany was not a socialist state. The Soviet Union was not a socialist state. China is not a socialist state. Cuba is not a socialist state. Venezuela is not a socialist state. In fact, try to name any country in modern times in which true socialism has existed. Here's a hint... as long as the government maintains its power and operates top-down rather than bottom-up and the working class is not in charge, then you don't have true socialism. And I only know of one attempt at this in modern times. But it failed.
  17. The award has been about this group's view of international politics for a long time, and Obama's calls for things like unilateral disarmament in the US play right in to their world view. The committee chairman even stated Jimmy Carter's award was intended as a "kick in the leg" of GWB's policies leading up to the Iraq war (we hadn't even invaded yet). It's not an American view, it's a well established general view today as well as at the time it was granted. Begin was known to have previously been the leader of a militant group that carried out organized terrorist bombings. But that didn't disqualify him. It hasn't ended there, either. Nobel Panelists have even resigned in protest over the designation of awardees, such as when Arafat won. So if the award still has meaning today, one has to really look hard to find it. Even if you eliminate all the controversial winners of years past, you still have to question the importance and stature of the award when it is being handed out not on the basis actions or deeds but on the basis of well aligned speech writing. It's like giving students an A simply for having the guts to enroll in a challenging course.
  18. Well it's not America's fault that Obama received the award. This doesn't say anything about America at all. But what it does do is diminish the meaning of the award itself and the credibility of the left wing radical panelists who are responsible for distributing it, if having previously given it to a known terrorist wasn't enough already. Did you know that they nominated Obama for the award in January, before he was even inaugurated? But at least the scientific side of the award still (by outward appearances anyhow) carries with it real distinguished accomplishment. Eg., nobody is receiving the award for simply intending to find a cure for cancer.... yet anyhow. But why do I get the feeling that the global warmists could change all that?
  19. Congrats, db2. We're all jealous!
  20. The Nobel Peace Prize stopped being relevant quite some time ago.... right around the time they started handing it out to terrorists. It's a "feel good" award which, if it had to do with actual accomplishments, many previous winners would have been unqualified to receive... and the current recipient... well, you tell me.
  21. LOL! How well did the AR hold up against dog teeth??? (Glad you found it)
  22. In and bump. Thanks to lani et. al. for setting this up! Fingers crossed...
  23. Very nice! And it looks like I need a tootall Moroccan Sunset!!
  24. I hate having to prioritize between things like buying a train and putting an addition on the house, dammit!!!
  25. At $4400, I'd pass.
