  1. Man I was trying to stop buying watches, but I need one of these. lol Has anyone been able to contact Homer recently? I emailed him but didn't get a response.
  2. I remember reading about people paying for the service on watches they bought from dealers and the service not having been performed. I don't remember what dealer it was, but if you're thinking about paying for that service, it might be a good idea to do some searching on the forum for info about it to make sure that you're getting what you paid for. I don't have any personal experience, as the only watches I've bought from dealers were TTK's Noobmariner and some quartz watches from Silix, but I figured I'd give you the heads up since, IIRC, the watch service was something like $100.
  3. Yikes. ok I'll just use a hairdryer and heat it off. I'm guessing that the SeaDweller that I have w/ a similar case and bezel would be the same... No suggestions on the J12 though? Are tehre any generic alternatives to the $300 Bergeon bezel remover?
  4. So I've tried knives, a watchmaker knife that came w/ my ebay watch toolkit, credit cards, etc and I can't get the bezel to pop off either of these watches. I found this link: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=8561 The noobmariner doesn't seem to have any apparent cutouts that I can see, and no amount of pressure seems to pop the bezel off either watch... what am I doing wrong? Can someone describe this process in detail?
  5. http://www.flickr.com/photos/28869447@N00/...57602611382302/ Just uploaded some photos to flickr if you guys want to see them.
  6. I'm up right where the 261 and portola intersect so flames were visible from my house last night. There was a little flare up behind Orchard Hills last night when we went out driving around, and that was about less than half a mile from my house. I'm at work now, but I'm a little nervous. I wore my gen datejust instead of a rep, since it was a gift from my dad, just in case... I'd rather be working from home today though...
  7. The flames are visible from my house!
  8. I'm starting to walk down that path myself... I'd say top right one. Classic Panerai, w/ a modern sprinkling of a subdial at 9. Or if you want one that the non-Paneristi can appreciate, middle right. I don't know the model #s are since I'm a Panerai-noob. I think the second one I recommended is a 023. I only know that one because I just got a 089 and 063, so I happened to look at the other GMTs. I really like the classic looking ones, but I ended up with the 063 because it's still classic looking, but is a little more decorated. My gf thinks it's nice looking, and I think girls are really good judges of appearances. They have no biases, they don't care where the watch is from or its history, or how fast the car is, or anything like that. They just say, "Hey, that looks cute" or "Ugh, that's ugly."
  9. I'm glad I found this thread, as I've been eyeing some of the stuff that he has to sell. I've been using eBay for about 8 years now and I just recently learned this: Regardless of a seller's feedback, make sure you read the negative feedbacks, and read them WELL. People are only given 80 characters to describe their entire experience, so you have to read between the lines for the negative feedbacks to really understand how badly a transaction can go with a certain seller. If you're willing to put up with the possibility of your transaction going wrong, click on "Commit to Buy" with that understanding. I learned this recently on a $1700 purchase of a Nikon D80 and it took close to 2 months to settle so I can imagine your frustration...
  10. If you're willing to wait a bit, then I can do what I did before and overlay the two. My computer's down for a bit, and it's the weekend (woohoo!) so I probably won't have time til Sunday or so...
  11. I've been trying to pry at it w/ an old credit card (don't want to scratch the watch w/ a knife, and my fingernails are too short) but it's not budging. I'm not pushing too hard though because I don't want to break anything. No one's ever taken the bezel off a J12?
  12. Anyone see this one yet? I guess they squeezed a transponder inside w/ the movement. hxxp://gizmodo.com/gadgets/watches/jaeger-lecoultre-watch-unlocks-aston-martin-dbs-298674.php "If buying a $332,000 Aston Martin DBS is in your budget for this year, why not spend a little more and get a $35,000 Jaeger LeCoultre wristwatch. It's not just a watch that looks great, it can actually lock, unlock and possibly activate the alarm (maybe) from a distance. Even though Bond has dabbled in BMWs lately, his heart's still with Aston Martin
  13. The 0 at the top isn't square to 12 o'clock. It's either half a click to the right, or half a click to the left. These watches are the $150 quartz versions from Silix, if that helps at all. Other than the crooked bezels, the watches seem really nice.
  14. I recently ordered a pair of J12s from Silix, and the bezels are crooked. How do I align them straight? Is the process the same as for other watches (pry w/ razor blade)? I'm a bit weary as I've never done any watch modding as of yet, and the women's J12 has sapphire over the bezel and I'm scared of breaking it. edit* - Added "Chanel" to title incase anyone is doing a search on this later on
  15. I fall into the "newbie-who-wants-anything-and-everything-available" niche. ajkslhdfksahfkjdshfl I find myself drawn towards black-faced watches. I have to consciously tell myself that I need to look at other watches, but while I'm looking, I conveniently forget and I start drooling over the black-faced ones again.
  16. I'm about two steps behind you. I'm waiting for a final email from Silix with the total amount so that I can pay for an order
  17. Holy old post! Check out this thread: http://www.rwg.cc/members/Geting-a-piece-f...lf--t36006.html Do a search for info on these watches. You can't really go wrong w/ with the dealers listed in the dealer section. I'm about to order two J12s for my gf and I from Silix.
  18. I don't think I can pull off a 42mm since I've read that the band sticks out quite a bit, so I'm curious as to whether or not this is for a 38mm as well. If someone buys a gen, and has access to a nice camera, I can clean up a picture of the dial. It has to be straight on, perfectly focused, and the time preferably set to 10:07 w/ the second hand lined up with the minute hand.
  19. I cleaned up the dial from the wallpaper. I realized way late that I had been editing on the small version (LOL), but I hope it can help somehow. If a 940px x 940px version of this pic will help, I can redo the clean up.
  20. Here's an corrected and updated version: Here's a huge version: fixed the distortion in the lower left, too. Is this dial for the 42mm or the 38mm?
  21. I'm in if there are any left. You should make a list on here and take deposits (or payment in full) from everyone so you don't get screwed. I'd be happy to pay in full up front.
  22. I know this is an old thread, but I have the same question... Can anyone recommend a watchsmith in OC?
  23. what resolution does it need to be at? I can try to clean up the original 1280x960 wallpaper to be used as a gen dial. It might take an hour or two to remove the hands and clean up the distortion, but if it's high enough resolution, I can do it. Also, do you have any more left? I might as well buy one if I'm gonna do the work. lol
