  1. Do I understand correctly that Raffles site is the only place to get cheap ETA adapter rings? I have a 2824-2 That I would like to install in a 5513 Josh case, (once I buy the watch). How do I know what all the parts I will need are to pull this off?
  2. I'm hearing great things about the Josh 5513 Case. Pehraps I should use this as the build, (is this the same as Cartel)? Where can I purchase just the 5513 case/bezel?
  3. Thanks Gentlemen. Great info from all of you. I'm at the stage where I need to decide it it's important enough to me to get the right case or not. I already have a well made sub style case you can see in my post about (interesting Epos build). It's very water proof but of course has the wrong case back and a 6mm small crown with crown guards. But I could just half-way do this and use this case with the ETA-2428-2 it has and fits a 29mm dial. I would only want to use a more accurate rolex/tudor case if I can get a decent price for just the case. Since I already have a nice and complete 2824-2. Why does Raffles offer such great prices on case backs but I can't find any decent priced cases? And even if I did buy a replica case, how water proof are these replicas? So I might just modify my current case. Looks great from the front and I use a nato anyways that covers the back. But if any inexpensive replica cases are decently water proof, I would wait for one of those and build it better. Ah very nice. Questions. Where did you get the 198 dollar case or watch to start with? How did you get someone to engrave the case back for you? Since this is kind of illegal and all. I assume you didn't just walk into a store that engraves and say, "can you make this part say Rolex/Tudor ". Great build and thanks for sharing.
  4. Does anyone know what part of Florida Vac works/lives in? I may have a project to see if he is interested in but was wondering what city he lives in. Most likely, South Florida or Tampa, but I'm close to Vero on the East Coast. And is he still active in mods? thanks, Rick
  5. Ah, I see. Thank you. What I meant was, I'm looking for the Tudor dials that have round shaped hour indicators, not square. I didn't realize lollipop was just the big second hand, but that makes sense now. My case I want to use has a crown guard , so I want a later Tudor Sub replica dial that is not a Rose Tudor but does not have Square hour indicators. So perhaps the models I'm looking for are 9401 or 76100? I think there were several different Tudor Subs that did not have square hours. Anyone know where I can find one for ETA 2824-2 29mm dial? thanks,
  6. Yes, thank you man. And I discovered that it's many different "early submariners" that use my bezel insert size, not just the first one. I have a lot to learn. LOL
  7. Hello everyone, I See Rose Tudor sub dials and Snow-flake Tudor dial replacements for ETA 2428-2 (mine is a non tudor movement). But I don't see any "in-between" Tudor sub dials, (I think you guys call them "lollipop") mil. sub style. I have a 2824-2 movement and a case that will fit a 29mm dial. I saw the good price Rose dials on Raffles. Any possible chance of me finding any of those in between Tudor Sub dials? thanks, Rick
  8. Well, I'm not sure now. My bezel insert is closer to 36mm than 36.5. Now I wonder....., but will figure it out eventually.
  9. Thanks, good fellows. I have an update. I took your advice and started measuring with my caliper and so far have discovered this...... The bezel insert is 36.5mm outer diameter and 30mm inner diameter. So this means that the bezel insert, (and hoping the bezel mechanism itself), is a direct rolex 5517 match. Unless this is a popular size for other watches. Anyone have the rolex military 5517 exact case dimensions? Would be interesting to know if they copied the case exactly, (but of course the case back itself is made by/for Epos. Is the crown on a 5517 only 6mm? I doubt it thought since that is an older sub watch. So 5517 was probably a bigger crown. Maybe Epos just chose the bezel insert as the 5517 size so it's easier to find parts instead of making them all.
  10. LOL. Yes, thank you but I already have and use these all the time. What I was hoping, was that once the case is identified, I could more easily know for sure what parts. It seems to be a pretty standard submariner style case so far. A 6mm crown. The sapphire is domed, not flat. I guess I will have to just measure and hope for the best. But I thought not all submariner style cases, are the same. So far it seems to be close to it though. In between the lugs is 20mm, etc. Thank you for the tip, you are right that measuring is going to be the only way since Epos ignores all my emails. Does Epos hate people who speak English or do they just hate people asking for replacement parts? Also, where do I buy parts from? I see crystals and dials, etc. all over ebay, etc. But where do I find rubber gaskets?
  11. Hello everyone. I have this watch that has a case/body from Epos 3241-1 and is a Sub style watch. How do I find out which sapphire crystal and bezel, and gaskets fit this very standard looking submariner case? (totally a noob but want to get crystal replaced and add a sterile mil-sub dial,) I would like to order all the parts myself to have them all ready for whoever will clean the 2824-2 for me and assemble. thanks, Rick IMG_1414.CR2 And the front.... The dial is a nice marathon with tritium tubes, but I really want a sterile mil-sub while I'm replacing the scratched sapphire and getting the 10 year old movement serviced. Anyone watchmakers in Florida you recommend?
  12. Well thank you, good sir! Appreciate the warm welcome. I most certainly will continue reading up on the forums so I may be able to answer some of my own questions. And thank you for pointing out I should stick to the trusted dealers list. I thinking I may want to reach out to the known modders since they know more about what spacers and parts are needed to work with my movement. How do I find a list of modders or must I just search randomly and see what they have built for people? have a good day, Rick
  13. I just saw a photo of the Tudor 7016 and it looks great. Would it be easier for me to build a 7016 if it's not a big crown because of sourcing cases for it by any chance? (replica cases) I also read on a different thread that "DW" cases can be had for around 100 used? Where do I find used or new DW cases and who is DW?
  14. Hello everyone. I really like the forum since first finding it last week. Although I'm a teacher by day, my hobby is making jewelry in my humble garage/shop (but I know nothing about watchmaking yet). Anyways, I have decent EPOS sub style watch (3241-1) that is no longer in production. It has served me well but the sapphire crystal had a good scratch and the bezel insert is looking ratty as well. The 10 year old movement keeps excellent time but may need attention soon, who knows. Long story short. Since EPOS does not provide replacement parts anyway for my watch, (they don't respond to me emails that are in English), I was thinking of using my nice jewelry bench to dive into the world of modding/building my own watch using my 2824-2 movement. I've always wanted a tudor or rolex sub but can't afford one on my laughable teacher budget. But I would like to build an older looking Tudor sub with my ETA movement. I've been searching the forums about building and gathered a bit on into, but did not find any tutorials on building a Tudor sub. (There are lots of tutorials on building Datejusts) I don't understand why the replica cases from Yuki or Phong are 800 bucks. If I want to build a decent looking aged look Tudor sub on a 2824-2, what half way decent cases and other parts can I use to do this? And are there any tutorials on building one like there are for the datejusts? I've read that I may need a few spacers or mods to make my stock movement fit, etc. From what I've read, raffles cases or cartel cases were cheaper, but I see on cases for sale on raffles, only case backs, and I can't find Cartel. I'm totally lost. thanks for any advice, Rick
  15. I'm just starting out and have a 2824-2 ETA stock movement. What modifications, if any, have to be performed to make anything fit? Is there a tutorial on these builds anywhere? Nice watch!
