  1. There was a local rep watch dealer back in the late 80's selling those here in Houston. He got them in Thailand if I remember correctly. I still have one of them somewhere, but not sure where it is at the moment. The one I have is the same dial as yours. He (his name was "Chuck") would travel to car dealerships and flea markets here in Texas selling them. He had two versions of them...one with the ETA movement and another with some kind of asian movement. The asian movement one was about $100 and the swiss one was around $150 even back then. He also had a few presidential models mostly with "diamonds" on them.

They were the best I had ever seen at that time.

I agree..when I saw it I had to have it...and Emitt was a car dealer so that makes sense. Maybe I dont remember correctly...I would LOVE to ressurect this replica...i really would.

  2. Rob,

    Nice 1601!

I agree with what automatico said... The pie pans are classic Rolex...

I am not really into vintage stuff ..well thats not correct...I prefer late model Subs, Explorers, PAMs...but I SOOO prefer 60'70's vintage Datejust's...but I have these vitage pieces

  3. Dial is definitely decent for the time period of replication, but certainly not genuine. The date window size/position is the instant tell for me. From there you can start working your way out in identifying the details and minutiae that would further indicate that it is not authentic.

For a piece made in the 80's it's pretty dang good...

Thanks I thought so too..now I just get it running again and put a TT oyster bracelet on it..if anyone can help me rebuild this watch please lemme know.

  4. I have seen gens of this for 300-400. havent seen a rep of it for a while. I had one 10-12 years ago. was plated brass, not even real stainless. i would save this as momento and move on. maybe a link?

    good luck in an case...

Your right...heck I found it and have about $70 in it when it was together...I never wore it though just havent seen a rep yet of a Kirium.

  5. The dial is very close but I don't think it's gen. Look at the spacing of the letters "ET" on chronometer. They seem a little stretched compared to my gens. Also the Rolex crown is crooked and the opening at the base of the crown looks a little too oval. I could be wrong.........

It also should have a champagne date wheel, lug holes, and you're missing a crown tube.

And the bezel doesn't look flat enough to be a gen. You'd need to post to side shot to be sure.

You are absolutely right I never would have noticed that....thanks RWG WIS's lol

  6. Funny was talking to a RWG bud today and said the same thing...if your going Franken....why not use the Italian Rolex style bracelets...why pay $1500 when you can spend $100 and who knows. I am really wanting to find a modded DJ just like that 1601...I think I have a shot at one soon.

  7. DGSE was great for me..genuine Rolex's, 2 year warranties...those pics arent great but mine had a machine cut bezel too,,,my wifes 6916 had issues the date wheel stopped at the 21st 3 months in a row AFTER the serviced it, finally DGSE just swapped the dial and diamond bezel and just hooked me up with a new watch of same vintage w/a new 2 year warranty. My wife LOVED that Rolex man.

  8. I bought it from Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange in 2005...it is a 5 million serial which dates it at 77-79 non quickset...a 5*** movement. It was completly original w/ box set and I paid $1500 for it, sold it for $1300. It was my first Gen Rolex and I want a rep of this watch to bring back the memory. It was warrantied for 2 years and never leaded water or acted up...it was awesome.

  9. In 2006 I was in the steam room of 24 Hour Fitness and spotted this watch on the floor with a broken dispay case crystal. I did the right thing and turned it in to managment but alas, no one claimed it so I kept it. I was told by a dealer it was a fake Tag Kirium and they could not help me. I did find a watchmaker that could and replaced the movement with a $25 21 jewel automatic and new crystal and got it working great. When I was in the GEN market I gave it to my brother in-law who wore it for years with NO issues but dropped it recently and broke the crystal again. The movement still works and all it needs is a new crystal and a good ckean up and I would like to have it working again. I have never seen a Kirium rep in the market and I would have never know WHAT model Tag it was replicating. Any ideas?
